So I got an e-mail from Microsoft yesterday.

Was curious if anyone else has had anything they used consistently on the internet for 10 years, or even things that you used 10 years ago that you don't use now. This Hotmail account I still use regularly, but I hang on to it more for nostalgic purposes. Was EoFF around in '99?

I've been using IRC off-and-on for over 10 years, though in the last year I've been using it regularly. I went back to see if I could find some of the old Dragon Ball Z websites I used to frequent (including one I used to run myself...) but a lot of them have disappeared.

10 years is a long time.

I've been using the tubes for about 7 or 8 years now. Not quite 10 yet :(

I created my Yahoo! email account in either 1999 or 2000, but I can't remember which year. Other than that, most of the stuff I've used for a long time is work related.

I've been using IRC for ten years. Started on java at talkcity.com, then just some off and on stuff with some harry potter fangirls until magic hogwarts started up, then I started using the chat there, found out how to really use irc (not on an applet xD) and have lived on it ever since.

I still use the same ISP e-mail handle, but since our isps have changed, the part after the @ isn't the same any more xD

I've only been using the internet outside of school for about seven years :p

I think the first thing I did was register at some pokemon fansite that I post at maybe once every few months now. It's pretty much dead.

1999 wasn't 10 years ago, you silly goose. It was 1999, and as such, will always feel like yesterday to everyone of all ages. At least, it feels like yesterday to me. >_> I still remember popping my little bag when it turned to 2000.

Anyway, I started using the intarwebz in either 2000 or 2001, so not quite 10 years for me. :x

I was on the internet 10 years ago but I'm not using any of the same stuff. It was mostly roms, Shadowrun stuff, Duke Nukem 3D hacks and Diablo stuff probably.

Ten years ago I was eleven. So I didn't get on it til a few years later. But wow, having something for 10 years is amazing. I get bored with stuff after while. Case and point, I just moved my room around again.

Did you get anything special from being a Hotmail user for ten years besides the e-mail? Also, if you use IRC regularly, can you go in our channel and idle, too?

The closest I have to a consistent account for 10 years will be... here, sadly, a year and a half from now.

Sooooooooo weird. EoFF's tenth anniversary is this December D:

I've been on the internet since I was about 10 or so. I used to only look up Sailormoon stuff though. Then I discovered yahoo! and started going into yahoo chat in like 2000.

Twelve years for me; mostly playing Age of Empires online. Then I found Starcraft and Final Fantasy websites. Look how well that went.

I'm turning 30. Which means I've been on the intertubes for about 14 years now.

10 years ago was nothing. You should've seen the intertubes 14 years ago.

Hmmm 10 years ago...I remember the good old days of the browser wars of IE vs Netscape.

10 years ago I was 11, pretending I was 14 in order to flirt with teenage girls in Java chatrooms.

10 years ago I was 21 and scriptng IRC, chatting on ICQ, serching for porn on AltaVista & slowly downloading porn on dialup. I was wondering at the marvels of Win98 & did not have long to wait to start my illegal music collection on Napster. It was a more innocent age.

I remember using napster :D my brother showed my family to it and he'd be like 'yeah I can get songs in about twenty minutes' but every time I tried it would take 40-60 minutes. My dad asked why this was, and frustrated, I said it must be that he had a faster internet. When dad said 'no, he's got dialup too', I resorted to the noob-honored 'well his computer must be faster then!'

oh, how little I knew.

(I realized, years later, that all that extra information was telling me what songs to get. I can visualize now the download speed and ping charts, not to mention the green, yellow, red buttons. If only I knew then what I know now!)

Heh, 14 years ago I sporadically had internet service. Anytime the AOL free trials would come in the mail, my dad would let us take advantage of it. I think it was only like 20 free hours or something like that. Either way, it was a painfully slow experience on our old 14400 modem. :P Of course, back then I was used to waiting for my computer to do anything. :p

Holy cow. I hadn't thought about this in a long time.

I'm not sure how long I have had a computer and internets, but I know I didn't start really getting into it until about 9 years ago when I saw an add for Zeeks.com in my local newspaper. It was cool back then.
But I moved on to better things. Neopets. Hellz yes.

Then I came here...

Oh wow, ten years ago I didn't know what the internet was. I got my first computer from my neighbor in 2000-2001 (Y2K Resistant ;D) and then got the internet a bit later. I remember thinking I won a free trip to Hawaii because of the pop ups. :p

I've had my Yahoo! account for about 12 years, I believe. Other than that, I turn 9 years old in EoFF terms this August, and DanieLoony (AIM account) is probably about eight years old.

10 years ago your wonderous flirtacious man here Iceglow was just 13 years old, apart from the age not much has changed! I was still a flirt back then, on the old Megatokyo forums and Bolt.com my networking sites of choice I remember chatting (and by chatting I mean chatting up) to some girl from NY on Bolt, no Rye don't get excited I know I'm a catch but hey I know it wasn't you lol. :P

A lots changed browser wise, no more netscape (does that even exist still?) instead it's firefox for me and it's no longer napster it's u-torrent or limewire for my music fixes depending on what I'm after it's facebook and myspace over bolt and EoFF over the imbeciles populating the MT forums (aren't you guys just so lucky to have me?). No longer do I complain about the cheese dicks in school, it's the cheese dicks at work who get on my case! God damn, this is making me feel old! I'ma stop here and now before I drag up all the many memories of my internet existence!

Wow, I didn't realize we signed up at EoFF the same month. I thought you were here earlier than that.
