I attended a public talk by one Dr. Michael L. on the Mathematics of Futurama. I realize that it was intended to be light-hearted and humorous, but I realized early on the feature of the presentation was to be an outline of each math joke inserted in the show, a break-down of the history of the mathematical term, and a dry explanation of why this is funny.
I learned several interesting tidbits, but the lecture itself failed at being public entertainment as far as I could tell. I was sitting next to one of Hsu's professors, and for all I know, he might have found it hilarious and enthralling the entire time.
What I need to know is: math students, would this treatment of humorous material entertain or amuse you?

Math can't be funny. It's just one big problem.

That's usually how it goes. I for one, would find it hilarious. Half of the fun is knowing that you can understand the joke.

Math is the devil and not entertaining no matter what iyam.
You all must have never met a mathemagician.
Besides, math can be funny when everyone else in your class is lost.
