If he was older and came first and they named him Brother, what if Rikku was never born and he was an only child but still named Brother? That's just bad parenting Brother and Rikku's parents, y'all got lucky that she was born.

Perhaps it means something in Al-Bhed that we simply lack the vocabulary to show. Such as Golden Warrior Son Chosen to Lead His People into Glory.

He's three years older than Rikku. It's probably not his real name.

In fact, his Japanese name, Aniki, is a term of honour for an older brother. No such word exists in English so they used the closest thing to it.

Maybe he had another name initially but Rikku came along and called him Brother so much that everyone else adopted it.

Edit: Yeah, what TheSpoonyBard said.

There's even the possibility that Rikku and Brother have another sibling that's older than both of them. Hence he would be a brother to the eldest. Though I should imagine TheSpoonyBard is correct.

Hmm...neat. I was being goofy and y'all answered all seriously. Thanks for the info. I know all about Aniki but I had no idea they called "Brother" that. It's still weird if their parents named him that though.

wel then the berstein bears need to be taken to court for it if its bad parenting, and in that case who would name there kids mama and papa, and what are the odds that these two kids hit it off........

i agree with spoonybard

Yeah, he always looked a bit older, but it's more fun to think of them as twins :bounce:

Maybe it's brother in the sense that black people say "brother".

You see people called 'big brother' and 'big sister' in anime all the time, even when they're not related. Strange they never gave him a proper name though. Chalk it up to another naming oddity in FFX, along with the dead nameless mothers.

Wait a damn minute! If Brother is related to Rikku...and Rikku is cousins with Yuna...then Brother was trying to get in his cousin's pants throughout FFX-2!

Oh well.

Well, that's what I get for not posting here in forever! Figured someone mentioned it, but I was too lazy to look.

Yeah I find it odd is that he is Yuna's cousin, yet he fancies her. AND they're all ok with this.
