View Full Version : EoFF then and now

hey guys! Hows it going. Its been a while and im sure most will be think.. " wtf.. who's this guy? ". well i go quite a few years back. Its been a while since i've enjoyed eoff's community. But im sure i'll catch up with the pace soon. As i check through some subscribed threads i saw sig makers that used to think low of themselves really evolve to a master sig... umm.. person. ^^

Well see you guys later!

( also, im going probably start my own sig shop again, dont worry... i've gotten better :p )

Topic: Was EoFF better "back then"? Is EoFF better now? Is EoFF just a :bou::bou::bou::bou:hole you happen to frequent or do you love EoFF to bits and just want... to... hug it...?

Rantz
06-29-2009, 02:33 PM
Welcome back!

Generally, "I'm back" threads are okay as long as there's another, larger topic present that we can use as an excuse to welcome you back (see oddler's thread, where he asked about the best/worst things to have happened in the past year). I spent a while trying to think of a fitting topic for this thread, but I got nothing, so I'm closing it. Send me a PM if you have a good topic for it! :)

Edit: Opened and topic'd.

I love EoFF to bits and just want... to... hug it...

I love EoFF to bits and just want... to... hug it...

I didn't quote that because I'm saying it for myself. EoFF is the best online community I've seen. Staff that actually works, members that aren't dickheads but are human, and the fact that I'm here make this place awesome.

For me, it wasn't better way back when. I only used to frequent the FF9 forums, so was only known there really. And when I started going to other threads in other forums I was pretty much a nobody. It took me freaking ages to get a slightly higher foothold, and I'm pretty happy with the view I have right now. I enjoy the friends that I talk to, and I enjoy the miniature conversations I have with other members.

Blue Harvest

I wasn't here 'back then' but EoFF is pretty awesome the way it is now. Definitely the best forum I've ever come across and the only one I've been on for more than six months and not got bored of.

EoFF is a :bou::bou::bou::bou:hole that I love to bits and want to hug. :)?

I don't really have a favorite time period. I don't think now is any better than way back when, I like them both.

EoFF has maintained a consistent level of awesome and I always offer a large :roll2 to anyone who harps on about how it used to be better.

EDIT: No actually I take that back. In 2003 a man could go into the Signature Thread and get himself a snazzy signature with a walrus on it. But nowadays...bah! I'm through with this dump!

FFIX Choco Boy
06-29-2009, 05:20 PM
I need a signature... I think I'm actually gonna go get one now. Oh, and welcome back, and the forums have always been great, even from the start.

Kanshisha
06-29-2009, 05:23 PM
lol. I remember that you used to have a walrus as a signature. I miss the Old time cause i had friends then lol. the old times were so interesting. I was a total nub cake at sig making and forum life! The death of Owen was of course a memory i will never forget... He made me continue sig making after me rqing ==''

But yeah.. Not that im saying the old is better, im saying i was way used to the old. I need to start knowing the new. Btw, are the following still around?

NaroK, Polaris, xAndrewx, Timster, Typhoon the raepa...??

Welcome back. I remember when I was a fledgling newbie and everything seemed so big and scary. But then I've come back and I'm not a little kid anymore so it's not so scary.

People are actually nice if you talk to them and don't stare. I learnt that the hard way I guess. You got post to get some notice!

I feel as though people were more friendly back when I first joined, but probably not - I probably just got on the nerves of some people and it just feels that way. There's always going to be super friendly people on this forum. Except now, instead of The Captain, we have Jiro.

There's also a difference because when I first joined, I got in really fast with the BAoTW folks and it made me feel like I had a huge group of friends to talk to right away. Nowadays, I only talk very often to a few people. xD

I think the main difference is that I feel like I know pretty much everyone and can talk to pretty much any member now, as opposed to back in the first years when I thought Del Murder and ShlupQuack were the most intimidating people on the face of the earth, when I was nubbin' it up hard. :mymelbert:

It's about the same nowadays, though.

Peegee

EoFF has been around long enough to have its own sordid history.

I think it's much more pg13 now than it has been for a while.

I mean Christ I once was setting up a literal EoFF orgy.

Tavrobel
06-29-2009, 11:37 PM
It was better back then because of the heightened activity. It felt more like a forum with idiots and a few respectable people, rather than a smashing of idiots who suck each others' proverbial nuts while anticipating an eventual decline and inevitable demise. Everyone knows everyone else here. That's a bad thing.

I don't just frequent this place, I work here. But the wholly uninspirational idea of corporate ownership lack of reward (intrinsic or extrinsic) does not motivate me to contribute more. But the real best part is the constant stream of threads that have to ask if "it was better then." If you have to ask, the answer is immediately self-evident.

Back in the good ole days there was controversy about Hooter's signature and if it looked like boobs or not.
Back in the good ole days The Captain led us to a fantastical sea of adventure and self discovery.
Back in the good ole days, Joel got pissed at anyone who spoke of the name of his 'wife'.
Back in the good ole days, RikkuYuna89 was the most innocent, pure person on the internet.
Back in the good ole days, I had a school girl crush on ___ _, __, and ___.
Back in the good ole days, I remember thinking that Sapphire was amazing cause she used :save: a lot.
Back in the good ole days, I remember thinking EternalShiva was the most mature, sweet person ever!
Back in the good ole days, I wanted to talk to half of you in PM or on AIM but never did.*

Haha, Murd beat me to it.

EoFF had more of almost everything in the past. More active members, more threads, more intelligent posts, more stupid spam, more things to warn members about, more events, more talk about FF, more spinoff forums, a more involved owner, more involved staff, more meetups, more phonecalls, more "omg are they gonna hook up" almost-relationships... the list goes on! Basically when you have more active members, there ends up being more of pretty much whatever. Just the way it goes!

But not as much as I did in 2001, and 2005. I had fun!

This place is great, but I don't post as often anymore and it's nothing that I can't live without. ^_^

Funny though, back in 1999-2001ish I always thought FFWA would be my internet home forever. Of course I moved on, to the NUThouse SOCK Brigade, EoFF, #unreal, back to EoFF, and then Neskaya.

Actually I really enjoyed EoFF off-and-on from 1999-2006. A lot of my friends stopped coming here (at least as much) in 2005/2006, so I guess that was the main thing that kept me from caring as much about this place since then.

All my hearts just broke, Gobo. :(

I planned on thinking up Quin related puns for names once every year, but They wouldn't let me, so I decided to go with the name that I could stand forever and ever.

It was never meant to be! :(

Yup, it was probably better when there was more activity. And when there was more RSL.

Seriously, I enjoyed it most in 2001-2003 because it was new and because I actually had time to post. It's hard to make that connection when you login every few days (at best!).

Back then is definitely more nostalgic to me, so I enjoyed it a lot more.

Nowadays I try to lurk as much as I can, because I still luffs this place. It was the first message board I ever joined. :)

Where's PiP?

And Paul, I had beter be the most difficult optional boss in that RPG. Or so help you God, I will rain down on you with a real RPG attack.

Am I still a long blondy (with a Batman mask?) in your game Psy or has it changed between SS, RM, CK, neither, then both again? God, I go up and down the corporate chain in this place like a squirrel.

Also you can fly, although this isn't seen until much later.

CrashIt would be interesting if he came back now, seeing as he would be a bit older (and not thinking Netscape 2.0 is the future of mankind)

I saw photo of him a year or two ago. He's all tall and man-looking now. It bothers me. My little DeBraga isn't the same as I remember him. :(

I prefer to remember him as a clumsy pre-teen with "I THINK I'M DUMB" in his signature and posts such as "Well AARON!! XDD"

It hurts less that way.

Did I call that or did I call that?

Someone needs to write about him in the EoFF wiki so others will understand why they liked him as much as they did.

I wasn't here much of 05', so I'm not quite applicable.

I remember when I asked RSL to change my username to Justin way back when. It was kind of surreal, like... the baton was being passed to me, from one Justin to another Justin. I may not have that name now, but I will always cherish the moment.
