I'm playing Star Wars: the Forced Unleashed now and at first, it seemed pretty fun. However, after a while, the controls started to feel clunky and unresponsive. On top of that, it's painfully repetitive. I see myself finishing it, though, because I've become a Star Wars nut over the summer. It's serving to satiate my Star Wars addiction because my KotOR keeps freezing at this one spot. :(

Another game off the top of my head is Kingdom Hearts 2. After a few worlds, I decided I was extremely bored with it, but trudged on just to see the cut-scenes and to fight Sephiroth.

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel (xbox not FT) this game was such a let down considering the excellence of previous Fallout and newer Fallout games. However I continued through and whooped the bosses ass which left me wanting to go out and whoop someone elses ass because they told me it was a "MUST HAVE" for fallout fans...

All the official neverwinter campaigns (not including the extra premium modules and player made modules)... yick.

Oogie's Revenge... if the nostalgia wasn't so awesome, I would have thrown away the trashy DMC rip-off as soon as I had completed the first level.

Guild Wars Prophecies/Factions ... Both are terribly constructed storylines and have poor cutscenes in comparison to the other two installments available (NF and EotN).

Prophecies: Poor protagonist, easy to beat, the old school AI still lingers inducing frustration, worst protagonist ever, lack of any actual... heroes?

Factions: Rushed world design, unfinished plot left to be told through lore (again rushed), half the game dumps you in this gosh ugly city (mind you, Jade Sea is awesome), cutscenes missing something (russssshed) and Shiro is meh.

Final Fantasy X
X-2
Crisis Core

Once I finish Revenant Wings, we can add it to the list.

There are some gray area ones as well. Titles where I like one element but not the rest, for instance, I like the game part of Kingdom Hearts 2 but I hate its plot. I feel the same way about TA2. Great gameplay but main plot and cast kinda fall short.

Final Fantasy X for me as well...but the story was so cheesy and bad that it was almost funny. I did like a few parts but wow, and people say FF12 sucked yet vehemently defend this piece of dreck. The music was good though I'll give it that much.

Also,

XII's music was one of its major bad points. There were some really good tracks but most of it was forgetable at best. The only thing that made up for EVERYTHING ELSE was the gameplay.

I've endured a few races in Mario Kart through to the finish. Does that count? That's basically the entire game right there.

Normally I tend to just stay away from games I don't like.

Yeah the music was fitting to the scenery but did feel a bit weak in some parts. But overall I actually liked the music quite a bit, especially the boss battle music.

I'm guessing I'm about halfway through the Force Unleashed and with each mission I do, the controls seem to get worse and worse. I've died a couple times, simply because of the terrible controls. But still, I continue. Bring on the pain!

Same thing here.

Couldn't get into episode 2, those zones pissed me off but it did add a level of challenge at least. Still was pretty stupid imo.

I didn't hate it but I wasn't really feeling Arc the Lad: ToTS, the game overall was pretty fun but the whole thing just felt phoned in, but I guess I can't complain since I bought it for next to nothing.

Adding Final Fantasy IV, not to fuel the fire... but because I agree with them.

It is however satisfying with the more recent additions (namely the DLC sequel and the DS' Augment system).

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Ugly plasticine characters, audaciously copy-pasted level design, and items that can only be used by navigating a windowed menu while enemies continue to swarm you. At least some of the music was all right.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
The foremost and universal criticism against Lament was that there were only a handful of unique room types for each area, which were then pasted end-on-end ad infinitum. Acknowledging this, Igarashi followed up with Curse of Darkness, which...has the exact same problem, except every area is about ten times larger than in Lament. What?!

It also replaced Lament's rare, minimal platforming with no platforming at all--indeed, no environmental interaction of any kind outside of stock "call out your familiar to open a door or cross a gap here" spots. Interestingly, though, the music was even better than in Lament.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Dawn of Sorrow on the DS was merely mediocre; at first glance, everyone thought it would be another Symphony of the Night, which it at least superficially resembled. But once you got into the game, it was all boxy corridors, haphazard enemy placement, amateurish sprite work, and generally bland surroundings with zero atmosphere.

So, that was bad, but not enough to inspire hate: that's where Portrait comes in. Everything is worlds worse, with the flagrant copy-pasting of rooms finally catching up to the 3D games; even uglier, more poorly-animated sprites; and environments that are Spartan at best, and at worst, actually look unfinished. I can't even say the music is good; while some tracks sound fine out of context, in the game, they form a droning continuum of like-sounding guitar synth that could easily be used to induce headaches.

But Order of Ecclesia was just mediocre, again, so maybe there's hope for the series yet!!

I made myself finish FFX-2 because goddamn it I wasn't going to let myself be beaten by an interactive softcore porno. When it came to XII though, :bou::bou::bou::bou:, I couldn't stay awake long enough to get more than three quarters of the way through.

When it came to XII though, :bou::bou::bou::bou:, I couldn't stay awake long enough to get more than three quarters of the way through.

That's how I felt about FFX. I bought it when it first came out and didn't finish it until 3-4 years later because whenever I turned it on, I mysteriously got exhausted and fell asleep. I didn't mind FFXII that much but I still haven't beaten it. I enjoyed the game, but it was too easy.

Dirge of Cerberus was pretty crap, but I still finished it. After I got about half-way I just said screw it and rushed through the levels, not even bothering to shoot at Deep Ground soldiers.

Sudeki had an alright story-line, but it just really sucked. But it only took four hours to finish so it wasn't much of a waste of time.

There's probably a few others, but I can't think of them / have purged them from memory.

Am I the only one who thought XII's story wasn't that great? I thought it was way too medieval-type formulaic for me to care too much for. Oh, and Vaan and Penelo SUCKED, and they were the 'main characters.' The combat was very good, though.

I agree about the characters, you need a perspective point and as a writer it can be sometimes hard to get the player to understand the protagonists point of view if you're making them do all the hard work (ask a 100 people what was going through Cloud's head at key points of VII or Squall's in VIII and see how many answers you get) Therefore throw in a couple of mildly amusing, light hearted newb like characters who are learning much of the stuff about the world as the player does and seeing what the other main characters of a story are thinking becomes easier especially with computer games as they get to interact with them like for example when you keep talking to Fran in the entrance to the Viera village she'll eventually give away some tidbits of information which help understand why she won't go with you. If you were seeing the story from Fran's perspective you'd not get that it'd just be "oh lets give you a shopping list and send you on" or a massively long cut scene ect.

Devil may cry 2
it had slightly better action than the first but it was to straight forward and impossable to get lost. the story was very cliche and had terrable plots that were way to predictable, the main villan was a pissed off asian of all things and the final battle you had to fight all the demons from the game all balled up into one clusterfuck and after that was all done and over with, with out a save or anyway to get health stars you must fight another demon that fights like a cheating basterd and if you die you must re fight the clusterfuck again

i think the contrast point between dmc2 and the others was that it was just an easier game in every possible way, and as anyone who's played the dmc games will tell you, if it's easy, it doesn't seem right

The Xeno games (xenogears and xenosaga series) aren't meant to be played for the gameplay. If gameplay is what you are looking for then the xeno series is definitely not for you because it is ALL about story.
