You've probably noticed this. In the following screenshot:

http://www.tsundereko.com/moghouse/ff14-08.JPG

There is a crystal formation in the background. On the official site, this can also be seen on the left half of the picture, showing that it's not a monument specific to a single area. However, the area shown on the official site does appear to be in a tent, but a tent much larger than the one seen in the screenshot. It's possible that they're the same tent, or that the official site's art is simply promotional artwork that isn't meant to represent a specific part of the game. But if it does represent something of the game, I'd think that there are multiple tents set up around places, and that the crystal formation links them somehow.

What do you think?

Perhaps waypoints?

Could be a home point.

Ouch!

My money is on, like Omecle suggested, FFXIV's equivalent to the home point.

Um, I think the site said that those crystals were used for Aetheric teleports, like when you get the Guild Leves.

Ouch!

Aye. Crystallized aether used to break down your body into aether mist and transport it across Eorzea. They were built by some unknown ancient civilization.

FFXIV's version of the Star Trek teleporter - beaming from what spot to another. :)

Well with the latest footage we have on FFXIV Core, I am wondering if these are bind/soul bind stones as others have suggested. It could have a multiple function as well.. Like the save points in FFX where you can save or jump into a game of Blitzball.. Well perhaps that is stretching it but you never know!

Interesting to see that if you use them too regularly or travel too far in a short space of time then you can suffer for it - potentially forever. O_o;

This is definitely not the exact same as in FFXI.

HAHA Dude Sandlot rocks!

This is just their new OP system which allows easy travels for quests. I guess theres limitations like the Assault system was made too(no going out of the gate) so there isnt a feeling of the world, despite being big, to be small.
