In my exploration for more info on FFVI and the Settei Shiryou Hen books (they are pretty much the Ultimania books of the pre-VIII FFs), I stumbled upon a website that has translated one of the FFIV books (http://home.att.net/%7ERCgamusic/ff4comp.htm#Cecil).

Thought it would be interesting to share as it doesn't seem to have the same level of controversy as the FFVI one does. To give a quick rundown of what the site talks about...

It gives personal stats for the major cast minus FuSoYa and the villains. As well as a few minor details about the characters past that is not made known in the game. Nothing terribly world shattering but it does add a little context to a few things in the game.

It mostly deals with explaining a bit of the Blue Planets history as well some good detail about the countries of the world. Interesting to note is that according to the book, the history of human civilization on the planet is relatively short which may be a hint of the Lunarians influence on the Blue Planet.

Regretfully, due to the lack of sources to match this up against, its difficult to ascertain the legitimacy of this translation but as stated earlier, it doesn't reek of "fanfiction" as badly as some of the VI translations do since most of the new info does not contradict the actual game.

Cool find. Haven't read much of it, though I find it funny that Cecil is likely anorexic. 5'10" and 128lbs? Someone get that man to a buffet. Actually, after skimming the physical stats of the other characters, I'm left to wonder how most of the guys can even walk in their armour. Yang seems to be the only one who's height and weight make sense in relation to one another. :D

Some of that stuff is really interesting. It's nice to see the older titles get fleshed out a bit more.

Rebecca Capowski is a completely trustworthy translator.

That's good to hear its reliable. Now if I can only find some reliable sources for the VI stuff as well as just find some die hard fan who actually translated the FFV books. :roll2

Most of it was fairly interesting, especially the history of the nations. I found it amusing that the name of the Dark Knight who came to Fabul and left Deathbringer was known as Leonhart. Reference to both FFII and VIII ;)

EDIT:
I found a website that shows alot of the artwork for this FFIV book. Some pretty fun pictures as well

Not to revive a thread that's years old or anything, but the link to this is broken.

Did you try the second link I posted later in the thread? It still works for me.

Very informative information. About as close to canon as we can get.
