...But you don't have to take my word for it.

'Reading Rainbow' Reaches Its Final Chapter : NPR (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112312561)

I wonder how many kids actually still watched this show in recent years. I know I hadn't seen it in a long time, at least 15 years. This is the theme song I remember (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6j8EiWIVZs), but I remember seeing a newer one online a couple years back.

To summarize the linked article: it appears that the show just lost funding. They mention some changes to the US Department of Education under Bush and I guess compounded with the financial situation the US is in it trickled down to this.

If I had access to PBS, I would watch that last episode today.

I also haven't seen an episode in over 15 years. I had no idea it was still around.

What?! I wasn't even aware this was still on with new episodes no less! Oh well. PBS still has Sesame Street.

Levar Burton never Twitters about it, but I guess he's still the host. Crazy.

I had no idea it was still on. Last time I saw an episode was way back in the second grade.

He did both, actually.

What a bummer to hear that it's over. I was madly in love with that program, and I think I had a small girl crush on Lavar. It was his voice, I think.

Any time we have one less show to encourage kids to read is a bad time.

Though tv encouraging reading may be a bit of an contradiction.
