Who else is sooooo excited about a new Disney 2-D movie?

Tiana looks really fun and strong, and I like her voice a lot. I'm excited about this film. It comes out the day I return to America for the month, I think, so I'll make Huxley take me sometime. :jess:

I hope that it isn't as bad as it seems.

It reminds me more and more of The Emperor's New Groove, so I'm not as excited about The Princess and the Frog as I initially was. Will the princess be a frog, too, for the duration of the movie? =(

I... I loved the Emperor's New Groove. ;_;

I'm really excited about it! My older brother said he'd take me.

I'm excited to see Disney going back to 2D as well as singing. Most young adults these days can tell you exactly which disney movie had the biggest impact on them. But now,With evidence of my younger niece, all they have is Barbie. While barbie is great it's not the same as the disney movies.

I remember when I was little I aspired to sing like the disney characters! The fact that there is a big gap of that missing makes me think it might affect children today. Yeah they can go back and watch the old movies but it's not something that is actively in their lives. I think it helped kids be more creative seeing those movies personally.

So it makes me super excited for a 2D musical movie to come out again. And she look so pretty in that dress!

But then Rapunzel is all 3D again and she doesn't even look that cute! Come on disney stick with 2D we love it.

It looks beautiful, at least. And I'm really looking forward to Dr. Facilier.

I share Monda's sentiments. It doesn't really feel like a Disney princess movie.

If Disney never came up with another princess, that would be fine. We could use more Aladdins and Robin Hoods, if anything. Or <i>Aristocats</i>. That's the way to go.

I agree.

I saw the preview for The Princess and the Frog when I went to see Ponyo, and I was really excited about it. Originally, I didn't think it sounded too interesting, but when you actually see some footage from it (Dr. Facilier's part pretty much made the preview for me), it starts looking a whole lot better.

I want to see this movie, and I don't say that very often.

Aladdin is an acrobatic thief with a magic carpet and a heart of gold. Robin Hood is an outlaw beatnik who can shoot a bullseye and then shoot another arrow that splits the previous one down the middle. And they sing. All a princess ever did was get kidnapped or mess around with some dwarves.

Yeah, I'm with Kishi! More Aladdin! More Aladdin!

Also, Dr Facilier is a badman, I love him already. I love the voice actors in this movie a lot.

I think it's interesting how a lot of cool new movies and shows are like, taking place in the Louisiana Bayous! Like True Blood.

It'll be interesting to see how Tiana is but she just looks like another ~SPUNKY AND SMART~ heroine. I'm not expecting a lot from her. Dr. Facilier, on the other hand, could be a brilliant villain. His evil (http://igossip.com/photos/_Film_Walt_Disney_97642_zz0c4bb614.jpg) looks like it's channelling Rasputin from Anastasia (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Theater/1658/anya2.jpg) a little bit. Or that could just be essence of frog.

I'm more hyped for Rapunzel tbh. Let's see if they can do 3D properly this time...

HAHAHA CHECK THE NEW PRINCE OUT (http://pics.livejournal.com/flytoyourheart/pic/0004stwk) he looks like a complete tosser.

And monda, I'm surprised at you :( How can you not love those 3 movies?

You're just not the girl I thought you were

Actually, Kishi makes a good point. Though I consider Aladdin a princess movie.

I just don't like <s>black people</s> frogs and am finding it hard to imagine this particular storyline could be as interesting as Aladdin.

What about The Lion King?! That's sooo not a princess movie either, unless you consider Nala a princess.

The Fox and the Hound is a better example of a good Disney movie without a princess. Yeah! The Lion King, too!

I can't even sit through Robin Hood or Aristocats. =O

I won't touch your last statement, princess bully! >=(

We wouldn't even be talking about Disney Princesses if it weren't for incessant revenue mongering on Disney's part. Every time I see Ariel in a gold dress, I cry a little on the inside.

One of my LJ friends worked on this movie, so I guess I'm pretty excited on that count :) Also I adore New Orleans and voodoo culture, soooo 8)

I'm very happy about Disney going back to 2D, despite them being like: "3D IS THE FUTURE DAMMIT!"

What I've seen of the movie so far looks good, and so I'm pretty excited to see what comes out of this.

My sister got to see an hour of this today. She seemed impressed with it and said the soundtrack was very good. But I wonder if Disney can hit the heights of the early 90s again?

Still it looks like Best Animated Film at next year's Oscars could be a pretty good category, with this, Up, Ponyo and Coraline possibly all in the mix.

While I'm glad to see the return of 2-D (I'm so sick of 3-D movies I could vomit), the preview didn't really do anything for me. I've pretty much given up on Disney, and don't expect them to return to quality any time soon, if ever.

After watching a making of segment on Sleeping Beauty, I've been longing even more for hand drawn animation. I'm sick of them doing everything with computers. Good thing we have Miyazaki. Studio Ghibli seems to be the only major animation studio willing to do that anymore.

Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, etc etc... all amazing films. All inspiring and making me a happy child. None of Disney's recent films, mainly the last ten years, have come anywhere close to making me feel like those movies still make me feel. And dammit I'm not hard to please, my brain is mostly fried.

That rant aside, I <3 voodoo.

The end!

Although I wasn't sure what to think first, every trailer and bit of artwork I've seen has made me more eager to see this return to traditional animation. The makers have really put a lot of thought into this film, and I hope it'll end up being as interesting as the clips I've seen show it to be.

One thing to keep in mind, though: quite a few trailers, Disney included, often focus too much on comedy or other things that can portray the film in a totally different light, so judging the overall tone from those gags can be a bit misleading. :p

It looks beautiful, at least. And I'm really looking forward to Dr. Facilier.

The animation and the art do show their flaws at times (at least in the scenes of the trailer), but overall I'm quite impressed considering how they had to start the production from scratch and "relearn" the trade while working on a tight schedule and a limited budget. I'm certain it'll look stunning on the big screen. :)

Keath David (Goliath from Gargoyles) is providing the voice which would be awesome by itself, but the wonderful character animation really defines Facilier (not to mention he has a top animator too). And Mr. David can sing (not to mention his song sounds like a proper villain song with a catchy tune)! I really like the vibe I get from him, and the interaction between him and his shadow looks great.

I'm eagerly waiting how the Finnish dub will sound like and I have high hopes it'll keep the same high standard as the dubs of the previous films. Although it'll probably be quite hard to top Keith David but we shall see. xD

Although I was originally disappointed that Alan Menken was replaced with Randy Newman, the song selections in the newest trailer do show promise (reminding me of Cats Don't Dance). I just hope the score itself will also be as creative and memorable as the songs seem to be. :D

As a sidenote, I enjoyed the Emperor's New Groove and liked its bold direction (ditto for Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet and Atlantis), but I often wonder how things might've turned out if they had kept the original idea and used more Sting and the whole dramatic Empire of the Sun concept. After all, using a lasso to capture the sun during the final battle would've been so epic.

Although Robin Hood, the Aristocats and other features from Disney's "Dark Age" have their flaws, I do enjoy them for their spirit, music and sense of fun as well as some really trippy sequences. ;)

Maybe I'm racist or something, but when I saw the title "The Princess and the Frog" I was intrigued . . . but when I found out it was some Jamaican girl or whatever . . . not at all. I was expecting a traditional old school Disney movie with European-esque characters. Since that's where the fairytale comes from. I'm not a fan of taking stuff out of their original contexts. Like stupid Shakespeare plays set in the 1930s or the future or any of that junk.

Rye

She's not Jamaican. xD The story takes place in Louisiana, and she's a waitress in old time New Orleans, a place, you know, where black people exist too. I don't see how it's out of context. =O

Aladdin, Lion King, The Rescuers, Mulan, Hercules, etc etc etc

sure the fairy tale goes that it was a princess who lived in a castle who dropped her golden ball into a forest pond, but you can fit that into about 20 minutes.

Bastian

@Rye Jamaican me crazy!

@Rubah Yes, but I would have enjoyed those 20 minutes so much more, probably. Besides, they could have expounded upon the story like they did with all the old ones without resetting it in a completely different place and time.

Hey, let's do Aladdin, but instead of an Arabian (they're all terrorists anyway), let's make him a Chicagoian set in the 1980s.
