View Full Version : Terra Branford/Elle Woods: Legally Blonde

She was originally designed with blonde hair, which was changed to green hair in the game itself. In Dissidia, she was given blonde hair in her normal attire and green hair in her alternate attire, and her English voice actress, Natalie Lander, was a contestant on the reality TV show Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods, and finished in 5th place. Elle Woods is a rather ditzy sorority queen who wants to find herself. Terra, while not as ditzy, also tries to find herself over the course of Final Fantasy VI. Isn't that quite a coincidence?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist; I actually find these facts quite amusing.

Hahahaha really? Legally Blonde musical contestant, huh? Well this makes me quite happy tbh because Elle Woods has a strong voice and I was afraid they'd make Terra sound really pathetic. There's a small chance that she might have a bit of gravitas this way!

Also I prefer the green hair because I think it just pulls her look together more and is far more memorable. The blonde Terra is nice too, but she's just a little bit too generic. And for people who are going to go BUT THATZ NOT THE TROOO VERSION amano has a total blonde fetish he drew every single character ever with blonde hair. Both are valid, but I prefer green terra.

Maybe her green hair is caused by her esperness but when the espers die it turns blonde :plotting:

I thought they gave her green hair so players wouldn't confuse her with Celes.

I personally would've liked Terra to have blonde hair with streaks of green, purple, orange, blue, and white.

Tina's design is already incredibly memorable without the green hair—one of Amano's best, I think. I don't think the green very well complements the red, white, and gold of the rest of her design, either.

On the sprite of Terra, I like the green hair. I think it makes her look a bit unusual and otherworldly, which is appropriate. On the Amano art, I quite like her with blonde hair. I'm easily pleased.

I always thought her green hair was from her swimming in pools too much because I think high chlorine levels tend to change blond hair green.

True, but not THAT green... Or maybe it was just a green wig...

I too, hate Christmas trees and any sprite resembling them.

Absolutely smurfing every woman drawn by Amano has blond hair. Even Tifa and Eiko. Changing Terra's hair for the final, in-game image was a fairly logical and straightforward move, I think.

Though keeping the original blond tresses for Dissidia is also just fine with me, since that game's art aims to pay direct tribute to the artist's undeniably great work.

Yeah, I think I saw an Amano-drawn image of Tifa with blonde hair instead of black... who's Eiko?

She's a character from FFIX. (http://www.eyesonff.com/ff9/eiko.php)

Only most of Amano's women have blonde hair there are notable exceptions and I would argue Tifa's hair color in the Amano picture is albino, not blonde. :p

I love Terra's sprite but I have fallen in love with the original Amano design. After using it as my master's to draw in my art class I really grew to appreciate his design of her better. Besides, her Dissidia color scheme is a little too bold when she's in her alternate uniform. They really needed to tone down her green hair and red dress cause they create a bit of an eye sore.

I thought Terra's hair was pale green, not necessarily green like emerald green for instance. I like it, that's the quantum of hair color in video games, there's a variety to choose from that wouldn't look awkward as it would in real life.

I prefer green. Gives her a magical allure

Those aren't hair, it's actually grass growing on her head.

No, I think it was a wig, because I've seen wigs with various colors that would not be found in natural hair.

Perhaps, maybe we should also make a parody of the blonde/green hair thing, and then call it Terra Branford: Legally Blonde. LOL

Has anyone else watched the Legally Blonde movies other than me and Scrumpleberry? I haven't seen the musical, or the related reality-competition show, but I am interested in it.

I watched the first one, it wasn't very good.

There was also a sequel called Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde. Did you watch that?

a big star...
Someone thought they were good.
I've only channel surfed through them and not watched them.

I've never thought of her as resembling any FF character.

A few years back someone had a thread on Gamefaqs discussing a FF tactics movie and which modern day stars could protray characters in the movie.Sean Connery as Orlandu, Leah Remimi as Meliadoul, stuff like that...

She can turn into a pink esper that has powerful magic and can fly, and you doubt odd colored hair? :roll2

I think they made the hair green just because they could. They wanted Tina/Terra to feel exotic, and the reason she is blond in Dissidia is because the characters were all based more on the Amano artwork. (Butz/Bartz is the only flopped one with his amano art being the alternate)

Are you talking about Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in the movies?

And another fun fact: "Terra" means "land" in Latin, so Natalie Lander, her English voice actress, has a direct relation to her character. Get it?

But her original name was Tina, and changed to Terra to sound more exotic to westerners.

Yes Reese Witherspoon..who apparently has left her current beau, if any of you are interested. Lol.

Terra was somewhat strange If I remember correctly.I haven't played FFVI in a while.I have the anthology version. (V and VI) and started playing V along with X-2. I have a long way to go before I finish either of them.

:)

Yes, Reese Witherspoon did just break up with her current beau.

And not only does the name change from Tina to Terra make it more exotic, but it would also serve as a contrast between her name and that of Celes, whose name is derived from the word celestial, with Terra meaning land or Earth and Celes referring to outer space.
