What do you think is the most universally loved song of all time?
I would have to say "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey

I dont know anyone who doesnt like It's My Life by Bon Jovi

Add me on the list of disliking both those songs. It's My Life usually makes me switch the station; I'll go out of my way at work to turn down the radio when it comes on.
I don't think there are any universally loved songs. One man's favorite song ever is the next man's ear bleeder.

I have to agree with this. I hate this song. I hate it. It's smurfing everywhere. Everywhere there's music I hear this song. I feel like it's following me. Everyone except for one person thinks I am absolutely crazy for hating this song, and by everyone I mean my friends and family that have absolutely no mutual musical preferences with the exception of this very song. If I hear this song one more smurfing time I am going to kick the :bou::bou::bou::bou: out of whatever it's coming from. Even if I am for some reason at a Journey concert and I have to run up to the stage and beat up Journey.

You can like Don't Stop Believin' sincerely, or because it's just so ridiculous, but not to like it for either is just a little bit sad.

I know your entitled to your opinion but I would like to hear a specific reason why you dont like "it's my life". You probably wont use the following petty reason but just as a note "it's everywhere" or "everyone else likes it" isnt a reason

I think the music accompaniment is poor, there doesn't seem to be any real skill or melody to the guitar accompaniment. The lyrics are poor, a lame rhyme scheme and a large amount of cliche statements. Also I am not at all a fan of Bon Jovi's voice. Honestly I just don't like the song, cant stand the sound of it.

Hmm i guess thats reasonable though the thing about songs that are most loved is that they are simple and basic enough to be loved by a wide audience.
Other songs i know that everyone i know likes are Affirmation and Truly Mady Deeply by Savage Garden. Both are simple and dont get on your nerves too much.
Everybody loves to be rickrolled.

The Tetris theme.Korobushka? It's a classic Russian folk song with a fun dance, so it's got a lot of historic popularity behind it, even before Tetris brought it to the outside world.
As for modern stuff - Bohemian Rhapsody's got a seemingly timeless and universal appeal, so I'd vote for it. Maybe it's because the song itself makes no real sense, so it can't become dated or anachronistic? That, and it's just such a rockin' classic.

Actually, I read that Bohemian Rhapsody is full of symbolism regarding Freddie Mercury's sexuality. Of course, I refrain telling my homophobe dad about that. ;)
Still, I can't think of anyone who dislikes the song. I know I've always loved it.

I like BtR, but I love Glory Days more.
I dare you not to like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo2Lof_5dy4).
Expanding on the definition of 'song' a bit I think Mozart may be one of the most beloved composer of songs, even by people who dislike classical music in general.

I'm fairly certain the question is which song will have the largest following, not which song will everyone in the world like. There is a difference.
I'm going to have to say that it would probably be Don't Stop Believin'.
Okay so I only know about half the songs mentioned so far, but put me down for Bohemian Rhapsody. I freakin' love that song, it's so damn weird :roll2

Queen - Don't Stop me now
Billy Joel - Piano Man
Oasis - Wonderwall
I'm not too fond of the last one myself, but it's because I've used it up. This song is following me around somehow.

Yes it is. Yes. It is. Oh god do I hate Don't Stop Believing for this reason. I do not hate many things, but I know for a fact that I hate this song with every fiber of my being, and this is the only reason I really have for doing so. It's not an obligation, I just do.

Seriously, nearly every person in the Western World will have this sung at them once a year, quite often by several people. How can people not like it when billions of people regularly sing it?

I hate Happy Birthday unless it's Happy Birthday to Ya. I can't think of any sole song that would be loved universally. Most countries have different songs that are universally popular to their nation though.
However, you could probably pick one of MJ's most popular songs and go with that.

Yes, I made this thread with "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Don't Stop Believin", and "Never Gonna Give You Up" in my head, but I chose "Don't Stop Believin", mainly because I just watched "The Comebacks" again, and the locker room scene made me think of how much it is loved, then I remembered Family Guy, so I figured it was that.
