>>> Yeah, this decade is about to die..
I remember when the year 2000 started, i was really excited about the new millenium and crap like that.
Lets say I was full of hopes and stuff, and it was obvious to think that because
the other 2 decades gave us some awesome stuff, just to name something:
The 80`s had Billy Idol and Nintendo..
The 90`s had the Simpsons and gave us the internet..
2K? had no :bou::bou::bou::bou: if you ask me.. well, unless something really extraordinary
appears in the next 2 months..

So what do you think about this decade? how it was for you?
for me it was a great deception..

I feel like the 90s had such happy vibrancy to it. Granted, I have childhood bias, but this decade just seemed a little grey in comparison.

This decade at least had a lot of good cultural things to it.

It'll be easier to see this decade properly from the future. I can't say right now. I don't think it's been awful though.

I've only really gotten a distinct picture of the nineties in the last few of years, so...

Reality TV? Im not sure if thats a good or a bad thing..

A pop culture junkie like me sees quite a bit in this decade, particularly in the later years.

For one thing, we elected a black dude to be the president.

I thought decades were in twelves... 0_o.... Oh well !:rolleyes2

Anyhow I loved my eighties and my nineties.. I wish I could relive the nineties......

The 2K decade is mostly about new beginings....Granted some of it sucked ( 911 and the Iraq/Afghan war)

The new decade shows the path that I think we'll eventually settle in....

What I'm expecting though is that 2012, the race of Mu will appear and cause chaos...They'll then enclose Tokyo in T.T.D Sphere which we will call Tokyo Jupiter.... Of course if I survive I'll join T.E.R.R.A Special Forces.....

I've liked this decade. People talk fondly about the 80s and 90s because they are nostalgic. In some years people will probably rave about this decade as well.

Nostalgia has a tendency of making stuff seem better than they really are imo.

Didn't help the decade started out early with an event that pretty much set the tone for this decade; everyone is evil, governments suck and your life is a complete waste.

Imma call this the depression decade!

You had me shocked when you said this decade was nearly over:Eek: so soon!
It had its ups and its downs, but its my first full decade so i will remember it as the best and the worst times of my life so far.:) (until next decade)
So yeah, in my opinion it brought about the best and worst memories for me to look back on.
But your points about Obama are good, that's a great achievement for this decade. Let's dwell on the good things.
I also like the internet as a good point. Oh where would we be without it.

Mp3 players
Digital cameras
major progress in Mobile phone technology
Broadband
YouTube
Wikipedia
file sharing takes off
Finding water on mars
Finding a cure for the HIV virus (sort of)
Lost a planet, got a couple new ones.

not my cup of tea, but gotta hand it to them:
World of Warcraft - 11 million subscribers
The Sims franchise - 100 million copies sold
Harry Potter series

and two things I appreciate:
People starting to wear non-ugly clothes and getting decent haircuts
Quality boost in TV-shows

last two points may be ended with an imho

- The iPod, and related to this:
- Physical music formats abandoned by the masses in favour of digital formats, and also related:
- Major record labels starting to sink
- "Indie" fashion and music entered mainstream culture
- The modern emo and "scene" subcultures
- Social networking websites like MySpace, Bebo, Facebook
- YouTube
- Barack Obama
- 9/11
- War on Terror

Those are the things that stick out most when I think of the past decade. I'm sure that, in another 10 years, I'll have forgotten some of that and remembered other, different things.

Also, the internet may have kicked off in the 90's, but I would argue that :bou::bou::bou::bou: didn't get real until everyone started getting their own MySpace.

This was a great decade in terms of accessibility and technology. We have Youtube and HD consumer cameras. The fact that a guy can take fan videos of U2's concerts and edit them all together to create a massive tour video with relatively amazing quality, just goes to show you where this world is heading in terms of anyone being able to have access to a wide variety of HD high quality footage and creating something on the same level as professionals. Also, yeah Obama.
