Damn, so many animes such little free time. Nikki has gotten me into yet another anime, Inuyasha. I didn't like it at first but its grown on me. Im on Ep. 25 so no unwrapped spoilers ;D

I've seen these animes so far:

Bleach
Dragon Ball Z
Death Note
Pokemon (it counts)
both FMA's
Naruto (yes even Shippuden)
Inuyasha
Vampire Hunter D
I totally forgot about having seen Fooly Cooly
Any suggestions for additions to my list?

Inuyasha is worse than DBZ when it comes to dragging out the bull:bou::bou::bou::bou:.

If you want the really chewy stuff, go for Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, and Elfen Lied. But from your list I don't know if you would like those or not.

But if you ever do watch Lied, get the subs and not the dubbed for chrissake.

Wolf's Rain is an absolute must see! I reckon Elfen Lied too but be warned its very graphic to put it mildly! Very powerful story though.

That list makes me feel gross inside. Inuyasha? Eww. May as well watch Rurouni Kenshin too, then.

Yeah... Me too (about the gross thing). I've refused to watch most of those. All that popular mainstream stuff with no real meat on its bones. The only thing in that list that's a little outside the box is D, but that's really not one of the best old skool animes (is it the original, or Bloodlines?)

Definitely agree with Cowboy Bebop. Champloo is probably good (haven't seen it). And kenshin is probably a good one (I've heard its good, but more importantly its LONG, so it'd go great with your tastes haha)

My favorites are always the old romantic comedies everyone seems to hate these days. Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo/Universe, and Love Hina. But if you want something with depth and raw meat I highly suggest Blood+. Black Cat is definitely one of my favorite animes too. But not too many people would be able to find it, and I don't know what types actually get into it. But there's my two cents :]

Good luck, and I hope your pallet for anime grows a bit :P

You list is missing funny!

Excel Saga! Do it! Watch it now!
And Galaxy Angel!
And The Slayers!

And why isn't One Piece on your list. Way, waaaaaaay better than Bleach and Naruto.

Also seconding Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic, Black Cat, Trigun, and FLCL.

Samurai Champloo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_champloo)

Trigun and Samurai Champloo are the most similar to the ones you have on your own list, though.

*is very tempted to spoil Inuyasha (actually, give me one good reason why I shouldn't :mad2:)*

Anyway:

Eureka Seven
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Neon Genesis Evangelion + End of Evangelion
5 Centimeters Per Second
Cardcaptor Sakura (for the love of god, not the English dub though)
Kiki's Delivery Service
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Kara no Kyoukai 1-6 (7 isn't available just yet)
Nodame Cantabile
Ouran High School Host Club
Tokyo Marble Chocolate
Detroit Metal City
Eden of the East

There should be enough variety there to keep you busy for a while.

Oooh, I second Eden of the East. That was neat.

I've watched (bolding the ones I really like nowadays) these. I'll just throw everything that I can remember that I've watched at you, to see if there's anything that strikes your fancy.

Azumanga Daioh (my favorite anime, personally)
DBZ
Dragonball
Digimon (this was my life when I was in elementary school)
Pokemon
Tenchi Muyo (dude, I was obsessed with this when I was younger)
Rurouni Kenshin (hahahahaha, another one I liked when I was like 11)
Detective Conan (oooold)
Card Captor Sakura (I loved this one so hard when I was pretty young, I had to have been about 8 or 9)
Sailor Moon (watching this again!)
Lucky Star
Ichigo Mashimaru
Ouran High School Host Club (aaalmost right up there with Azumanga)
Hetalia Axis Power (super recommend this one)
5 Centimeters Per Second (hi-5 jussy!)
Princess Mononoke (I did not like it)
Spirited Away

I'm kind of embarassed, I've watched waaaaay more anime than I thought, definitely when I was younger for certain. I can say that I never watched Inuyasha frequently, though. Even my 11 year old self was like "hahahah wtf" at that. But I was all over DBZ since I was only a little one.

Sailor Moon was my first anime. I remember crying on the way to get an operation on my ear when I was 5 or 6 because I was going to miss my daily dose of Sailor Moon goodness. xD

I Don't Need A Name

I was gonna suggest Ichigo Mashimaro, but a lot of people tend to not like it if they're into mostly shounen stuff and whatnot, so I left it out. Normally I would, since it's one of my very favorites.

Did you ever finish it, Jess?

Freya
11-03-2009, 02:29 AM
It's been out since 2006. so those 100 series/ovas or whatever you've been watching, you couldn't manage to squeeze in one series that was easily accessible. SOOO your fault.

My god, you're really going to keep pushing this? I'm sorry I can't watch everything I want to see all at once, but it still doesn't justify spoilers for it in the least! There is an expiration date on spoilers. You wouldn't use spoiler tags when talking about how Aeris dies in FF7 or anything like that. Don't complain about spoilers for something three or so years old while on the internet discussing popular anime. Spoilers happen.

Freya
11-03-2009, 03:11 AM
With great popularity comes great spoilers.

Watch out for that Will! All these animes people are recommending, well not all but most, have been around for a bit so there are bound to be spoilers. That's just what happens with popular things. Be careful of the Evangelion ones.

Tavrobel

One anime, a manga and three movies? (One being a spinoff) When you have that much press, it's sad you don't know more about it.

Are you retarded? How does some random anime, regardless of quality having multiple iterations give it any more priority than others when it comes to the press? How does ANY medium fall under that category? It's not impossible to be able to avoid spoilers for anything, especially when you try hard enough to do it. I'm so sorry that you think that Death Note is God's gift to humanity, and that you have to fangirl-cream yourself for it. Get over yourself. If Momiji has really tried hard enough to avoid spoilers for something that's only been out for three years, it's not sad at all. Maybe he wants to see just how good it is for himself without the need for someone to tell him every single detail or hint of symbolism.

Regardless of spoiler expiration dates, it's entirely possible to avoid them.

I could just as easily give you another animu or mango with greater popularity, and still somehow have avoided spoilers until I watched the animu for myself. Guess what? They're older than Death Note. If anything, I find it sad that you put Death Note at the top of your tier list, not that most of the people here have quality tastes in animu.

My suggestion:
Boku no Pico

Freya
11-03-2009, 03:53 AM
It's not. Roffle waffle. Get off your animu white horse darling. It's just a popular series. I would have said the same thing if he was complaining about something like harry potter being spoiled. Obviously you overlooked the part, when you came charging in, that it was a "popularity=spoilers"

But that's ok. I'll forgive you Tavy. You don't mean to jump to insults about animu, it's just in your nature to be grumpy .

Tavrobel
11-03-2009, 03:58 AM
It's no more popular than Gurren Lagaan or Code Geass, but I still have yet to see any major spoilers for those two series outside of /a/ or Wikipedia.

Are you being daft or intentionally dense? You completely missed what I said about being able to avoid spoilers if you tried hard enough, regardless of popularity. The basis of your argument is that Death Note somehow has some kind of media priority over other shows, something which you levied against Momiji. Inexplicable, to say the least, because there's far more popular animu in the world, but of course, you wouldn't bother to watch any of them.

Galaxy Express 999
Captain Herlock (there is a awesome recent series to this)
Tokyo Babylon (Japanese please, the english dub is pretty bad)

Haibane Renmei
Voices of a Distant Star
Robot Carnival
Casshan
3x3 Eyes
Bubblegum Crisis
Dominion Tank Police
Ranma 1/2
Maison Ikkoku
Kare Kano (anime is okay, manga is better)
Witch Hunter Robin
Wolf's Rain
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (the original OVA is awesome, the rest of the series are good except Tenchi in Tokyo which should be avoided at all cost, definetly watch the movies though)
Green Legend Ran
Phantom Quest Corps
Jubei Chan
El Hazard
Ah! My Goddess
Video Girl Ai
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Monster
Black Lagoon
Metropolis
Karas
Azumonga Daioh
Big O
Anything by Hayao Miyizaki and Satoshi Kon and of course...

If you do watch 5 Centimeters Per Second, you should watch it with Nikki :</>D!

And then watch The Girl who Leapt Through Time, which is better.

A lot of these recommendations are making me 'smh'. I guess it's better to watch all the middling stuff before moving on to the truly great stuff, because once you watch a certain 'level' of show, everything 'beneath' it seems rote.

Despite saying that just now, I would recommend you check out Dragon Ball Kai.

The charm was just lost on you, green! Ichigo Mashimaro doesn't have the in-your-face or cued comedy that I think of when I remember most anime I've seen - like Azumanga Daioh. I guess it's more perceptive, since the girls always look normal and do boring, realistic things. Very simplistic show.

Still, it's a small leap from Azumanga Daioh to Ichigo Mashimaro. Both are about cute, funny girls being girls. And a pedo.

LoL I doubt anyone these days would be very into Moldiver. Even back then it was just an amusing distraction. I loved it. But there's not much meat to it. Just a goof-around superhero thing. Though that reminds me. Anyone that enjoys crazy random animes and superhero/mecha spoofs would probably enjoy Project A-ko, if they could get over how old it looks :] Alas, a lot of old animes need to be remastered like Miyazaki's marvelous collection

Edit: I think I'll finally watch Neon Genesis Evangelion too... I avoided it like the plague back in its hayday. I hate hype and usually avoid the most popular animes. They never tend to be like the coming of Christ the way people tend to rave. Probably why I don't watch much newer anime. Everyone creams over everything these days

Bubblegum Crisis (I don't know what 2020 is like)
Patlabor
Ah! My Goddess
Moldiver
Azumanga Daioh
Gunbuster

LoL I doubt anyone these days would be very into Moldiver. Even back then it was just an amusing distraction. I loved it. But there's not much meat to it. Just a goof-around superhero thing. Though that reminds me. Anyone that enjoys crazy random animes and superhero/mecha spoofs would probably enjoy Project A-ko, if they could get over how old it looks :] Alas, a lot of old animes need to be remastered like Miyazaki's marvelous collection

Oh my god. Oh. My god. I did not just fucking forget about Project A-Ko for several years. Please tell me I did not. :(

Wow... I'm surprised someone else even knows about A-ko. And obviously likes it. Kudos! :D

I loved Blood + its probably one of my favorite animes ever. But I was surprised when I did some research halfway through the series and found out it was supposed to be a prequel to The Last Vampire. I hated that movie... To each their own. But I wouldn't suggest them together

Wow I was the other way around, I hated the show. I thought it was horrible but loved the movie.

A lot of these recommendations are making me 'smh'. I guess it's better to watch all the middling stuff before moving on to the truly great stuff, because once you watch a certain 'level' of show, everything 'beneath' it seems rote.

I think thats what put me off watching anime altogether. I saw Akira and now have to judge every anime by its standards. So most anime just seems a little too stiff and static for my liking.

blood:tlv (anime) was a wonderful metaphor on the nature of humanity
and blood+ was a sequel, not a prequel (the movie takes place in the 60's, the show can be considered present day)

edit: THAT IS if you even want to bother saying they're not set in alternate universes alltogether. marvel does this with comoics, they reimagine a whole story. i think that's what happened here.

Are you asking about Blood+? Or something else I talked about? Blood+ is about a girl with amnesia who turns out to be a vampire and her presence ends up dragging her family into a "monster"ous conspiracy. Its one of the more serious and dramatic animes I've seen that doesn't go over the top or get boring (to me). One of the only animes I've found gripping at times (though I have to admit I only saw half of it back in the day. I'll be re-watching it all the way through here soon)

We seem to disagree a lot, but its never very person. I think we are destined to be frienemies! :P

I'm used to this aspect when OVAs come into play. Actually quite common in Japan. So I'd be completely willing to accept this. Not that it really matters either way. Still to each their own I guess. I should probably watch TLV again, my opinion may have changed over the years

Basically, Desert Punk is set in a post-apocalyptic world where it's just all desert. There are several Oasises, which serve as governments too. The rest of the people live here, or work as mercenaries. The main character is nicknamed Sunabōzu and something about being a demon of the desert for his excellence as a merc. Anyway there's a bunch of recurring characters, and it's mostly action and comedy. But I enjoyed it ^_^

Back when I was more into anime, now I barely watch any, but these are my top faves, all have had some impact on me:

Chrno Crusade - really good, got drawn right into it, and was fantastic all the way to the end

Nana - I found this really true to life at the time, although it might be a bit girly for guys

Sailor Moon - childhood classic memory, although I would recconmend the manga over the anime

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - another early one, but always liked the futuristic setting and robots etc, and the characters were memorable/likable

Gunslinger Girl - this one was different but there was something sweet behind it all, might watch it again to see if I missed something, coz something didn't quite make sense...

I could recconmend others, but these were some of my faves

I have to add D.Gray-Man to my list now. I got the first manga book and have watched about 18 episodes of the anime, it's really good imo.

If InuYasha and D.Gray-Man are what's tickling your fancy right now, then you really aren't ready for anything that I would seriously recommend. Have you watched anything from the multitude of things that people have recommended? No one even mentioned D.Gray-Man.

I'm re-watching Black Cat. Everyone should watch it with me *Hugs avatar/sig*

It was either you who got me into watching it, or me who got you into watching it oh so many years ago, I forget now.

I've been out of the recent release loop for a couple of years now, but the older stuff is still mostly better.
