Final Fantasy VIII is actually an early prototype of The Matrix. That's why there are inconsistencies and unanswered questions which people point out and ask. The Architect could never predict the feverish attention fanboys and fangirls would give to the game and assumed it was complete and infallible.

Excellent, it all makes sense, all the symbolism and everything.

But I always thought it had a hint of Star Wars Episode 2, what with SquallxRinoa.
