At least a few of us play this game. We could pass it around, taking turns playing the same fortress one year at a time (in game time, of course).

Even if you don't want to participate in the actual gameplay, you can have your own dwarf character! If you want a dwarf, pick a job for him/her. Here's a list: Category:Jobs - Dwarf Fortress Wiki (http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Category:Jobs).

If you want to play Dwarf Fortress, download it here: Bay 12 Games: Dwarf Fortress (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/).

For those of you who don't know wtf DF is, read about Boatmurdered (http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/). It is what made me get interested!

Also Headshoots (http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Headshoots/) is on there too. I had a Dwarf named after me there! (but it's not my EoFF name so many of you won't recognise him when you see him :))

Yep!

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m285/fofonda/dwarffortress/world_map-region1-18-1.gif

None of the preceeding maps had glaciers or tundras. When I edited the parameters to include them, I ended up with a map this big. It must have a little bit of everything. I hope I didn't make a mistake. :kaoclove:

Should be okay though, I think, although it'll probably have a whacking great filesize. Probably best to keep the embark to a 3x3 area too.

Dwarf Fortress, eh... what the hell is this game. Well, I suppose I could have them use me as a character or something. I still don't get it much though. I'll click that link Psy posted and hopefully learn something, maybe do a Google search, see if it's something that could be enterta--

Ooooooooooh, big map! I'm infatuated already. I shall get this game and learn how to play it. Map map map map map map map map map.

I'll have to check the thread again when at home so I can read about the jobs and so forth. Work blocks everything.

EDIT: <s>Unless, of course, someone would be so kind as to PM me the list of jobs shown on that page which I can't see.</s> :) Thanks Mulley :D

I've started messing around with DF now and I think I've vaguely got the hang of it, although I still have much to learn. I went for magma, too, and lost three dwarves to those damned imps. Urrrrrgh. Most of the time they were off grabbing the items that the first dead dwarf dropped. And apparently hunting in this game means chasing any kind of animal right past the fire imp, ignoring him and ending up dead while you continue to chase said animal. Urgh.

Psychotic
11-21-2009, 10:13 PM
Haha yeah you gotta watch out for "hey this dead guy's shoe is awesome better go get it" syndrome. Best thing to do is to forbid all of their :bou::bou::bou::bou:.

And yeah I dunno if a hunter would specifically target a fire imp. I mean, I guess they might if the imp was close to them, but once they're locked onto any sort of critter, they're away. Even if they run out of crossbow bolts. Honestly, I think Hunters have a higher mortality rate than any other job!

Necro you are a god damned madman hahahaha I love it.

For those of you who don't understand what he did, basically merchants show up with a lot of expensive trade goods at your fortress every now and then. He lured them inside, then opened a huge trapdoor (technically he collapsed it) which sent them plummeting many, many feet down onto some spikes. From the looks of it, the merchants and their pack mules exploded. You can then see all the Dwarves come steaming in to loot their :bou::bou::bou::bou:. Did the animals in the cages survive?

That was utterly amazing. Way to piss off merchants.

Now we just need to start chopping down trees by the thousands so we're attacked by elves.

I have now figured out how to play this, although it was waaaaay easier when I wasn't near fire imps, didn't opt for an anvil at the start of the game, wasn't ambushed by elves and, well, basically had a safe area. I have 57 dwarves in my little colony now, and the only issue I continue to have is that they drink faster than I can create barrels and/or brew alcomohol. I've only just figured out what the garbage dump is and how wonderful it is for clearing out stockpile areas of stone.

I find it much, much easier with graphics. If I'm ever playing the EoFF one, people who don't know what DF is will at least be able to have some vague understanding of what's going on. :p

I look forward to getting home so I can see all these updates. =]

Madame Adequate
11-24-2009, 01:08 PM
Oh, well when you said "I hate what it does with the text" I assumed you meant that. Basically when you use some graphic packs, they change some letters into things which are not letters. For instance levers, trees, wells, that sort of thing. This means that in the actual writing of the game, you might see Urist McAxe*warf, where you've got the sprite for a lever where the * is.

Loony BoB
11-24-2009, 01:47 PM
Ah, the only thing I noticed is that capital O's look like they are merely giant circles, much thinner than the rest of the font involved. But then, my pack is using a combination of Mayday stuff and something else, it's much better than the default Mayday pack.

The thing I disliked about the default Mayday pack was that it put a background colour behind each letter when they would have looked better without it. I can't remember exactly how it turned out but it looked similar to highlighting all the text on a word document. In the menu especially, it was gross looking. :p

Yo, Jeremy, can you hook me up with the save file? Thanks. How did the fire start? Fire imps? Oh man, I bet you've left me with a nice tantrum spiral to deal with.

I believe there's some mod you can get that removes all accented characters from names. Also, Stonesense v4 was released yesterday and it is pretty sweet. As for graphics, Mayday's works best at like, 1200ish (I can't remember the number as I don't use it) resolution and I have 1024, so I use my own modified version of Dystopian Rhetoric's.

Transcribed from the personal journal of Psychotic Ezummelbil, former ruler of Towntwinkles. The journal was recovered in the ruins of the fortress.

---

26th Obsidian

Oh boy, diary! As the son of King Rith Italcatten, I have been appointed as overseer of our newest fortress, Towntwinkles. What an honour!

The things they say about it! They say it's hidden away in a shimmering forest. They say it's a beautiful land of peace and tranquility. Oh diary, I have even heard tell that there are beautiful stone seahorses carved into the rock there!

My merchant friends Lor, Ducim and Locum went there last year and haven't returned. The rumour is that they love it so much that they didn't want to come back to the mountainhome! Oh I can't wait! I'm setting out tomorrow and I should be there for the first day of spring.

---

29th Obsidian

I think I'm going to need a fancy new title to reflect my status as ruler.

Well, diary, here we are. And words smurfing fail me.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring3.jpg

Shimmering forest my ass. It's a werewolf infested hell. I was nearly killed by the foul creatures several times on the way in. And half the trees have been burned down anyway. What the hell happened here?

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring4.jpg

Here's a picture I drew of the fortress entrance itself. It's just a hole in the ground surrounded by water, a half-assed wall and a strawberry patch. This isn't a fort. It's a ditch!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring5.jpg

Inside's not too bad, I suppose though. Here are the apartments for all the Dwarves, and the workshops.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring6.jpg

And look, here's the dining hall! It's a bit small, but the rumours about seahorses were true.

There's also a bizzarre pit with some levers next to it. I don't know what that's all about.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring7.jpg

I wandered down into the deeps and found some crazy project the miners were working on. I don't even want to know.

My head hurts, diary. I think I will need to drink a lot of Dwarven Rum tonight.

---

2nd Granite

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring8.jpg

I was kept up all night by the screams of some mad Dwarf who goes by the name of DK. Upon further investigation it seems he is part of the military. The leader of the military, a blonde burly dwarf called ShlupQuack, is apparently some derranged psycho who goes around injuring recruits. She only has two, the other being theundeadhero, and both are in bed, injured.

This will not do. I don't care if she's some hero who killed a werewolf with her bare hands. This :bou::bou::bou::bou:'s too important to have some sadistic whackjob mess it up. I'll take control of the military myself.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring9.jpg

I do a roll-call to find out who we've actually got here. There are only 22 Dwarves! There were supposed to be 40-50. And I can't find my old friends Lor, Ducim and Locum anywhere.

A Dwarf calling himself Dignified Pauper grabs me by the arm and tells me he can show me all I need to know.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring10.jpg

This Dignified Pauper chap turns out to be the fortress's engraver. On the walls he has engraved the history. What I see shocks me. Dwarves being ripped apart by werewolves. Dwarves going completely mad and killing themselves. Apparently a lot of Dwarves were consumed in a brutal fire. And as for my friends? Oh, it gets better and smurfing better, diary. The guy in charge before I got here, Necronopticous, lured them into a trap. That pit? The crazy mothersmurfer dropped my friends into it and they got skewered on some spikes. I caught up with him and asked him why. He said they had some Anvils and he wanted them. Murdered. For anvils.

I'll get my revenge on this Necronopticous guy, mark my words. But not right now. I'm new here and he is very popular. I'll bide my time, but I will get him for this.

What the smurf is with this place? This isn't some magical getaway resort. It's an insane asylum. What the smurf did I do to deserve being shipped off here?

---

7th Granite

Some crazy Dwarf by the name of Rye corners me in the booze stockpile and squeals at me.

"Mister Paaaaaaaul!"
"Oh god. What do you want?"
"Can you build a new dining hall? I'm a hungry Rye but the other one is way too small!"
"No. smurf off."
"Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! Please please please!"
"How about I build you your own personal dining hall, miles away from me...or anyone else for that matter."
"Oh thank you oh thank you!"

I am glad that she has gone. Still, despite being incredibly annoying, she does speak some sense. The dining hall we have is a bit small.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring11.jpg

I get Loony BoB and Bunny to stop with whatever crazy project they're working on.
"But we're mining for stone! It's very important!" Loony BoB insists.
"There's smurfing stone everywhere. We don't need any more."
"But the stone!"
"Just do it. Jeez."

Reluctantly, the two agree to mine out a new space for dining. Meanwhile, I get a couple of the more useless Dwarves, Sir Lancealot and Tavrobel to smooth the stone in the new hall down.

10th Granite

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring12.jpg

Elven traders have arrived. MILF, a young Dwarf who has taken up carpentry duties after the last ones all got eaten or burned or went insane, insists that their souls can be infused to the walls, causing life and beauty to flow through caves like this.

He's obviously crazy, right? But several other Dwarves seem to agree with him. Maybe there is some truth to it. Elven retreats do seem to have magic within them. Maybe I shall ask the Elves.

---

13th Granite

Pointy-eared pricks wouldn't tell me any of their secrets. They just want to trade cloth and berries, both of which are so very, very useful. :roll2 ShlupQuack demands we keep them prisoner. This isn't such a good idea, but whatever. Like I give a smurf anymore. The Elves mutter amongst themselves in their tongue as we tell them they cannot leave here. I don't trust them.

Levian, a metalworker, was elected as Expedition Leader. This means he'll be my right hand man. I am not exactly thrilled with the choice. He refuses to craft any armour and just mopes about in his bedroom. Still, this new position seems to have perked him up a bit.

I can hear those bastard Elves chanting away at all hours in their strange language. MILF has proposed that we torture their secrets out of them. Ugh. This isn't going to end well.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring14.jpg

A rather thin-beared Dwarf bursts into my office.

"I am Laddy! I am the Fish Cleaner!" I stare blankly at him for a few moments. "I clean fish!" he ventures further. I was unaware we had any fish at all here in Towntwinkles, let alone any dirty ones.

Apparently he is part of a huge group of migrants that have arrived from the mountainhome, who have boosted our numbers from 22 to 41.

Here's what we got:

Bowyer x2 - Oh wow! Two guys who can make crossbows! And to think we didn't even want one.
Fish Cleaner
Fishery Worker - I may just start up a Fishery to put these two to good use.
Peasant x4 - I drafted three of them to the military, and one, Leeza, seemed to have a sterness about her so I appointed her to the position of Sherriff.
Miner - Awesome. Came with his own pick, too!
Gem Cutter
Gem Setter - Oh how very useful, considering that there are no smurfing gems at Twinkletown.
Planter x2
Weaponsmith - Excellent!
Craftsdwarf x2
Leatherworker - We don't have any leather.
Milker - Or any cows.
Glassmaker - Why?

We don't have enough beds for these new migrants either. I was not expecting so many but apparently so many Dwarves buy into the bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: of how great Towntwinkles is. They'll have that idea stamped out of them soon enough when they have to sleep in the mud.

I am checking out some of the mining projects when newly appointed Sherriff, Leeza, rushes in and screams something about beating criminals.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring17.jpg

Next thing I know, she has pulverised the :bou::bou::bou::bou: out of Bunny, breaking his arm (and later his head but I didn't get a shot of that :D) and causing permanent brain damage. What the smurf? She's only been here a couple of days and now she seems to have developed the insanity that plagues this fortress.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring18.jpg

She insists that he has commited an act of vandalism against...one of the War Dogs? Okay she is totally smurfing insane. Great.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring19.jpg

The war dog in question seems to have a broken paw. I can only assume Bunny is responsible for this.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring20.jpg

Leeza then carries Bunny to his bed so he can rest, leaving his blood still splattered all over the wall. (How Leeza like is that? Beating down a criminal then going to help him!)

I shudder to think what the rest of Spring will bring, Diary.

Goals for my year:

Create Legendary Dining Hall
Set up Magma smelter/Furnace maybe?
Tombs. Lots and lots of tombs.
New workshop areas.
Noble Quarter
Build a gatehouse to replace the entrance we have now.

scrumpleberry, a Gem Setter, made a gruesome discovery today. The rotting corpse of one of the Dwarves who died under the rule of Necronopticous was found in our moat, the very same we get our drinking water from.

"Want me to make an engraving of his bloated body?" asked Dignified Pauper eagerly. What the smurf is up with these Dwarves?

The unfortunate Dwarf seems to have dropped a Steel Axe in there. We'll make retrieval efforts in the summer, when the corpse has fully decomposed to a skeleton.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring26.jpg

Another gruesome discovery, if not hilarious. A Fire Imp who has apparently lost its leg has been slowly crawling across the area, passing out from the pain with every step it makes. However, I remember that many Dwarves died under the previous overseer because of Fire Imps setting fire to the forest, so I send ShlupQuack out to deal with it.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring24.jpg

With her out of the way, I have plans. I call together a meeting of the other soldiers, Rantzien, Jessweee, theundeadhero and Iceglow. DK cannot attend, he is still in bed.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring25.jpg

I tell them she is a lunatic who cannot be trusted, and I form my own squad, The Gloved Bells (I think it is a catchy name okay? :colbert:) with Jessweee and Rantzien as a part of it. Meanwhile, Iceglow is given a crossbow and form his own squad, The Rough Controls, which I hope to fill with other marksdwarves later.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring28.jpg

I am pleased with our new titles, and I seem to have earned everyone's favour. Everyone's, that is, apart from theundeadhero. That snivelling little toad sucked up to ShlupQuack and refuses to leave her squad, even though she injured him in sparring! Pfah. Like I need a kiss-ass in my squad anyway.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring27.jpg

Outside, ShlupQuack decided the best way to deal with an already crippled Fire Imp is to cripple it even further. You go, girlfriend!

He was soaked head to foot with blood and vomit. I asked rubah, who sometimes looks after the injured Dwarves, why he was in such a state. She shrugged her shoulders and carried on walking.

It looks like he won't be returning to action any time soon, and there is a lot of mining work to be done.

The two pummel the wretched creature into the ground. Ah well. Maybe I can have smittenkitten carve me a nice werewolf-tooth necklace when she takes a break from making bone bolts for Iceglow.

Yet again MILF comes in with a status update on the Elves. This time it seems they have fully lost their marbles! They turn on each other and their pack animals join in!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring37.jpg

One donkey tried to escape, so one of the Elves chased after it and we all watched as he beat it with his bare hands. I am told that in the pit itself, one of the donkeys has actually killed his two Elven masters.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring38.jpg

Knowing the time to act was now, I grabbed Rantzien and had Laddy open the entrance to the prison. We quickly subdued the thrasing Elf.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring39.jpg

I kept him held down while Rantzien started beating him. We yelled at him, demanding he reveal the secret of Elven magic, but he just roared and spat at us.

As we were doing this, ShlupQuack showed up with that theundeadhero guy in tow, demanding to know what's up. She decides that they can interrogate the crazy donkey in the deeps, and they head down to grab it.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring40.jpg

Unsurprisingly, the donkey does not talk as they pound it to pieces. These attempts to talk to animals and subsequent torture further underline how mentally unstable this ShlupQuack truly is. It's a good job I got here when I did.

Eventually the two die, and the Elven Trade Caravan's goods are ours. Hurrah! Victory for Towntwinkles! Victory over the tree-hugging weaklings!

I am told by our Mechanic, Christmas, that one of the girls I told to go work in the mines, Chloe., has withdrawn from society. What this actually means is sitting on the floor of my nice new Dining Hall, not talking to anyone. I thought I had the insanity curbed...it seems I was mistaken.

Apparently the Elven and Donkey corpses have begun to rot and produce awful clouds of purple miasma. When Shattered Dreamer went down there to grab some of their gear, he vomitted violently.

Worse yet, it seems to be gathering in a thick mist near to where Red Pill and Vaern are growing our plump helmet crops.

It's the end of Spring, and I feel I should make a record of what we have accomplished so far.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring43.jpg

Here is a comprehensive list of all who dwell within Towntwinkles, and their roles.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring44.jpg

The new dining hall is coming along well. Pictured: Myself, Iceglow, Chloe., Christmas, Del Murder, Flying Mullet. Partially obscured to the right are scrumpleberry and Sir Lancealot.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring45.jpg

Tombs! In the bottom left corner is my own. I had Shiny chain a bear and a wolf (the question mark; Stonesense doesn't have a sprite for wolves yet) stolen from the Elves in there to guard my bones in the after life. The top two are for Marshall Banana and Necronopticous, former rulers, although I have yet to finish them. In the bottom right is the massed tomb, filled already with whatever was left of the Dwarves who died before I arrived.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring46.jpg

The start of the Noble Quarter. Leeza's office and bedroom are the only furnished rooms down here as yet.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/spring47.jpg

Finally, remember how I said I'd make a dining room for Rye totally out of the way of the rest of us? Here it is!

I am also informed by Demon Dude that the insane Chloe. has taken refuge inside a Glass Furnace.

Christmas, our Mechanic, has been working hard to try to recover our Battle Axe that was dropped in the moat. This is a picture of her designs.

The axe was at the bottom of the lake, and so the floodgate on the left would be activated, causing the water to flow - and pushing the axe with the pressure - into that central chamber. That floodgate would be closed, and the one on the right would be opened, causing the water to flow out of it. The axe wouldn't follow, as it would be caught on the grate, thus allowing safe retrieval.

We were all very excited about this marvel of engineering and gathered around to watch. The machinery worked just fine, however, the axe was too heavy and the only thing we got back from that dead guy was a sock. A single smurfing sock. Why is everyone here such an idiot?

I'm writing the axe off as lost.

We were expecting migrants from my father's palace, the mountainhome. And yet we received word that none had come.

"They've evidently heard about all the murders you've committed", smirked Necronopticous.
"Oh smurf off", I said to him. "We all know you're the murdering scumbag around here. You're lucky I don't ram this axe into your spinal column."
"Well, sure, we know it. But suppose that someone had sent word to your father that you were the one to kill those merchants". A shiver ran up my spine.
"You smurfing didn't." He grinned at me again, that smug son of a bitch. "No-one would believe you anyway."
"Wouldn't they? After all, didn't everyone believe your merchant friends had started new lives here, and were living happily until you showed up?" smurf. He had me there. I wanted to rip his head off then and there. The problem is, he's too valuable to this fortress alive. He's a Legendary Record Keeper. Without him, we'd be in deep smurfing trouble and have no way of managing our stocks.

I hate this conniving asshole. I'll find another way to hit him where it hurts.

scrumpleberry came to the barracks to get me today. "It's disgusting. They're animals. You're in charge, do something about it." I had no idea what the smurf she was talking about, and told her as much, and she wordlessly led me to our brand new dining hall, which was nearing completion.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/summer5.jpg

It seemed that Chloe.'s body couldn't handle the fey spirits that had possessed her and she had totally snapped. She began wandering around babbling to herself, stripping off all of her clothes one by one. She's marked as the blue ! on this picture, diary, and you can see her clothes strewn above her. Oh, and you can also see how the dining hall is coming on. Yes, those statues are arranged in the shape of a P!

Naturally this set the other Dwarves into a frenzy. Tavrobel was drooling. Agent Proto had thrust his hand down his +pig tail trousers+. Hell, Dignified Pauper had already started on an engraving.

I just walked away. I'm simply not dealing with the insanity of this place anymore.

As Summer draws to a close, two of my projects have been completed.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/summer7.jpg

I have created a totally new food complex here. Truly it was an effort by all Dwarves. Masons Rye and Noctiluca made the chairs, tables and statues; Farmers I Took The Red Pill and Moon Rabbits started the new farms next door, Engravers Sir Lancealot, scrumpleberry and Dignified Pauper decorated the walls, and Marshall Banana made the still and kitchen next door.

Our previous food production areas were too spread out for my tastes, so I have centralised them.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/summer9.jpg

Loony BoB and his mining team worked hard to channel the magma to our new furnaces area. I am delighted to say it was a success. Those Steel Anvils Necronopticous stole are sure coming in handy!

Here we can see Agent Proto and Vaern smelting copper and tetrahedrite, while Levian makes some copper armor. It isn't as good as steel or iron, but we don't have any of that yet. It'll have to do.

---

Summer was an extremely slow season. I mean, this update is half the length of the last two, and yet they each took place in half the time this one did! So here's some updates on individual Dwarves. A caravan from my father's Kingdom, Vucar Bab arrived today! It was good to hear news of the mountainhome. I had that retard Chloe. hidden away in the mines. However, the merchants and their wagons themselves were slightly retarded, not knowing which of our two trade depots, one of them being a trap set up by that dastardly Necronopticous, to unload their goods at.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn6.jpg

I ordered that we prepare our instruments made of stone - they will produce some lovely rock music, hurr a hurr - to be traded with them.

---

14th Limestone

Today has been a bloody day, diary.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn7.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn8.jpg

Two squads of Goblins showed up and ambushed the caravan. I assume they followed it in and waited until light to strike. Each squad featured wrestlers as meatshields, and archers and crossbow wielding goblins as back up.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn10.jpg

The caravan guards charged head on to meet them and it was carnage, by all accounts. Judging from the severed body parts and blood that was left after the skirmish, I would have to agree with these accounts.

I was aghast. Our defences were not ready yet! The gatehouse we had been constructing was not even half finished.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn9.jpg

I ordered Iceglow to the top of what we had, as that section was elevated and provided cover. He engaged in a long range crossbow sniper battle with four crossbow goblins, although they were more intent on firing on the caravans.

Meanwhile, I attempted to assemble the other five soldiers at the gatehouse.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn18.jpg

That blathering idiot ShlupQuack refused to go out there until she'd finished her drink. Bah. We had to wait for her. Not that I'd willingly go out there with archers and crossbowmen pinning everything down anyway. I hoped to lure them into the gatehouse and murder them up close.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn11.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn13.jpg

Outside the battle raged on. The goblins were taking some serious injuries.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn14.jpg

The Dwarves were taking some too, however.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn15.jpg

Loony BoB, our trader who was at the depot, won't stop telling everyone about his brush with death. He says he was running back towards the gatehouse when a goblin archer spotted him. However, this merchant ran in front of him in the confusion, and took the arrow instead.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn16.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn24.jpg

The battle at its height. (note that in the second, isometrical picture, the battle isover. I forgot to take a shot using that during the carnage so you'll just have to make do) Here are some things I'd like to draw your attention to:

1. Myself and DK in the gatehouse, waiting to charge. In the isometric picture, this is where Iceglow was fighting from, on the level above us. (the goblins he was shooting at would've been right at the very top of the screen here)
2. Caravan guards fighting goblins, leaving body parts everywhere.
3. Loony BoB cowered in the bin stockpile of the trade depot after briefly rushing out.
4. The merchant that saved his ass.
5. The merchants are all fleeing with their wagons. :(

It seemed the caravan guards had beaten back the meatshield and were now closing down on the archers, and the six of us melee Dwarves - myself, DK, ShlupQuack, theundeadhero, Rantzien and Jessweee - were finally ready, so we charged out afterwards. We were a lot quicker than both the Goblins and Caravan Guards and so were closing fast.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn17.jpg

The goblins fled to the top of this hill with a little pond at the top.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn19.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn25.jpg

However, just as we were about to take them out once and for all, a werewolf sprang out of the trees (marked with an X) and blocked our path. We ganged up on it and slaughtered it, but it was too late. The goblins had escaped...

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn20.jpg

The bloody aftermath.

6 Goblins dead
2 Caravan Dwarves dead, 2 escaped injured.

We buried those two Dwarves in our mass tomb.

I am angry that both the goblins and merchants escaped. Now they can both go home and tell others of what they saw - the goblins will report the location of Towntwinkles, and the merchants will tell my father that I am running an unorganised mess of a fortress that is totally unsafe.

I am smurfing screwed.

Meanwhile, we all grab weapons, apart from ShlupQuack who insists her fists are deadlier than any weapon.

Jessweee - Mace
theundeadhero - Sword
Psychotic - Axe
Rantzien - Hammer
DK - Spear

I also call up two of the new peasants, Breine and Shoeberto, to become Marksdwarves under the command of Iceglow.

Idiots. All idiots. Iceglow has been hogging the archery range and refusing to let his trainees shoot. Breine decides he can spar with us instead, and ShlupQuack immediately grabs him and breaks his bones, putting him out of action. For smurf's sake.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn27.jpg

I then order the other trainee, Shoeberto, to go out and shoot animals with his crossbow instead. He hauls the corpse of a two-humped camel back to the fortress. What. The. smurf. Why is there a smurfing camel in the middle of the forest? I don't want to think about it.

Do they expect me to produce fish for them to catch out of thin smurfing air? Jesus christ. This smurfing fortress. I said to them "You want something to catch? Try this." and started waving my axe at them. I think they got the message.

27th Timber

Ah, Timber has been a rather slow month, for which I am very thankful. The Dwarves have all been merrily working away on a few projects.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn30.jpg

The first is the "Tombs for Heroes" program. I decided that us soldiers deserve some god damn respect for giving our lives for Towntwinkles, and so we now have individual tombs for each soldier.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn29.jpg

The gatehouse is coming along nicely, it is four storeys high. I hope to make it six. You can also see the curtain wall that guards our precious strawberry patches, although I fear that the patches are still vulnerable to archer fire.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/autumn31.jpg

Finally, THE OCTAGON! This is the idea of DK. He proposes that he capture Elves and Goblins and pit them against each other and ourselves. They will be taken to the little rooms to the side, and then the two levers will be pulled, opening the doors. There will then be an exhibition of combat in the centre of the octagon. There are plenty of seats so all interested Dwarves can watch!

What a dreadful day, diary! A fire imp leapt out of our magma pipe and incinerated poor Melissaur. Us soldier types were just chillin' in the barracks, having a few Dwarven Ales to pass the hours, when Sir Lancealot ran in, screaming that a fired beast had come.

As we arrived on the scene, the imp was brutally breaking the bones of Moon Rabbits one-by-one.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter4.jpg

However, before we could start smushing its stupid flaming face in, we noticed it being torn limb from limb!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter5.jpg

This heroic war dog had taken the assaults on Melissaur and Moon Rabbits personally and slaughtered the fire imp.

Nasty little bastards, the lot of 'em. And a shame about Melissaur. She was one of the saner Dwarves around here and a very talented bone carver.

I found a trail of blood and vomit soaked clothes left scattered all over the fortress. On further inspection, it seems they belong to Shoeberto. Gods above, I think we have another full-blown ShlupQuack-level psychopath in our midst.

The sneaky little pricks. Kobolds (for those of you who don't know, Kobolds are the 5th Civ. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, and Kobolds. Those are your big 5)

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter8.jpg

The Kobolds scarper as we charge out after him. ShlupQuack and I went for the one on the left, and she sent it flying. Meanwhile, DK led Ranztien and Jessweee after the other, and the Spearman skewers the little wretch.

No skulking filth will infiltrate my fortress.

Fire! The entire forest was set ablaze and a great cloud of smoke filled the area. The fire imp that the dog tore apart leaked ooze or goo or something and that apparently was enough to create a towering inferno.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter10.jpg

I ordered everyone inside so they didn't, y'know, die horrible deaths. But smurfing Shoeberto left one of his deer carcasses in the door, jamming it wide open. Great. Now the smoke can flow into our underground hole and choke us. I look forward to dying the aforementioned horrible death.

The fire is still going. The entire forest has been consumed. A smurfing forest fire...in winter. How could this happen?

Earlier we found a corpse in the woods, burnt out, with some sort of message from my father, the King. It was illegible because of fire damage. I wonder what it said. Nothing good, I'd wager.

Two heroic dogs - including the one that killed that wretched imp - charged headlong into the flames to rip a werewolf to shreds. Remind me not to cross them.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter22.jpg

Mind you, the werewolf takes a good chunk out of one of them and it limps about passing out. In recognition of the war dogs' recent fighting accomplishments, I order that more be trained up by Sir Lancealot.

We captured a werewolf in our traps today! I think I can put it to use in the Octagon. Meanwhile that Necrontopicous has been smirking and sneering. He's up to something. At least ShlupQuack and Shoeberto are just maniacs. He's out and out devious.

I'll include some clippings from the Towntwinkles Herald.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter16.jpg

DK: It's a great day inside the Octagon for DFC 1: Psychotic versus Werewolf. And now time for our main event of the evening!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter17.jpg

DK: Psychotic takes an early advantage, with the werewolf apparently too much of a coward to come out and fight. He reminds me of that poncy Elf, Forrest Griffin.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter18.jpg

DK: Psychotic has charged into the room! And look how educated our fans our, cheering that his axe has passed the werewolf's guard.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter19.jpg

DK: The werewolf begins to flee into the Octagon itself, further proving what a coward it is.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/df/winter20.jpg

DK: And it is allllllllll over! Leaving behind a lot of blood and a puddle of vomit, the werewolf has been disemboweled. After 3 rounds we go to our judges' scorecards. All three scored it 29-28 and so the winner by unanimous decision...WEREWOLF!

I got Shogun'd, diary.

I've been checking out the engravings I ordered to be completed in the noble quarters. Shattered Dreamer demanded that I look at one he called "The Fear of Moles". Just look at it. Well, it's all over, diary.

While I was sparring in the barracks, my father's men showed up and said they had had enough of my mismanagement of the fort. However, since I arrived here I have buffed up so much, and when I pulled my helmet over my head they didn't recognise me. I had MILF tell them I had been killed by a werewolf. That bastard Necronopticous moved to tell them the truth, but my squad stopped his little game, oh yes. Ha ha ha!

The Dwarves went back to the mountainhome to report my demise to my father. The fortress has now passed into the hands of Broker Loony BoB. My reign is over. I am now just a faceless member of the military.

But maybe, just maybe, I like it that way. I don't need to work. Not anymore.

Glad I accomplished all my goals and made a death arena to boot :D I am not so glad that I did not get to test out Necronopticous's Depot death trap. I didn't want to waste it on the Elves and the Dwarves went to the replacement Depot I built (for when the other one collapsed) when I wasn't expecting them to.

The ambush was a bitch. For those not in the know, Archers and Crossbowmen are by far the worst opponents to face. If any of our future rulers want a tip: Station our military inside the gatehouse and keep them in there when you see Archers and Crossbowmen on the unit list (press u and scroll down, it'll show all invaders and their type) else they will get horrible injuries. Force them to come to you and station the Marksdwarf top on level 2 and they'll hopefully do the business.

Will see about getting the map file uploaded tomorrow.

EDIT: Oh yeah and for BoB and any future ruler, hit the h key. It's a list of hotkeys that'll jump you to certain points in the map. So if you're wondering where the furnaces (hit F4) are or the octagon is (F7 I believe) but can't find them, it's as easy as that. Plus they make checking on key areas so much quicker!

"What." My jaw probably couldn't have dropped much lower.
"You heard me. The King demands you take over. Psy's a nutter. You know this. We all know this. Hell, he spends all his time plotting against ShlupQuack, who by all accounts was his friend, and praising DK, who everyone knows that, deep down, he has a grudge with. Not to mention that he's a stark raving loo--" The messenger quickly thought to change his wording when he saw my ears prick up at that. "...dumbass."
"Yeah, yeah. But he kept me digging. Digging's as good as I get. You don't want me doing more than that."
"But you have experience!" replied the messenger, spreading his arms as if they could somehow improve his pleads.
"You mean..." I was lost for words. Well, I'd forgotten the name. Intentionally.
"Yes!"
"THEY ALL DIED. EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! THERE WERE CHILDREN!!!"
"But that's valuable experience, right?"
I punched him in the nose. Twat. "Fine. Tell the King I'll do it. But if anyone dies, the blood's on his hands, now. Get the hell out of my sight."

I marched off to find Psychotic. We were only passing aquaintances, and the guy was right, he was a stark raving loo... dumbass. I hear he'd put on his best disguise so as to avoid any punishment, but I knew his game. I read all about it in the papers. Bloody crossdressing cage fighters.

Goals for my chapters

Status Report

Psychotic, complete in women's plated armour, was happy to give me a few pointers. Probably even happier that he wasn't in charge, I guess. Anyway, he said it'd all be fine. The place seems to run itself and we can handle about 30 more dwarves without problem! This doesn't sound too bad now, actually. I suppose as long as we don't get more than 30 further dwarves, I should be able to handle this until someone is more willing to take over than I am. With, uh, the King's blessing and all that, I suppose...

No sooner had I finished talking to Rox-- er, Psy, I was advised by eestlinc that the elves were coming with a load of goods to trade. Excellent! I hope they have children. I've quickly noticed that if there are idlers, chances are one of them will be Necronopticous. What the hell is a Child Predator supposed to do without children to prey on, anyway? Alas, they had none. Just stupid clothes and a few berries. Eh. I'll have to start looking into encouraging baby-making in this place.
<hr />Later...

Get a Room

Leeza has as of late been boasting a lot about how she has an office and I don't. I guess that I'm just not used to one, but I suppose if I want to make my position look desirable to some other sucker then I may as well make a nice big office and bedroom for them to look forward to. I arrange for this to be set up right away. The sooner I pass on the job, the better. This should hopefully make someone jealous enough to take it on!

Here's a picture of that bunnylover Baloki jumping on my bed, which is (obviously enough) in the bedroom which is accessed via my office. CCTV captures everything these days...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff1.png" alt="" />
<hr />Later...

But... is it Art?

Every five seconds or so, Dignified Pauper runs up to me, excited about how Rye or smittenkitten have created a masterpiece. Really. This never ends. I mean, really. With smitten, we're talking about crossbow bolts. Masterpieces? Really? Really?
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff2.png" alt="" />
<hr />Later...

Woof.

The war dogs seem to be doing a great job lately. I hear they make some good kills and I decided to stop Sir Lancealot from whatever engraving he was doing to focus more on training more animals. He loves them dogs, he does. While I was talking to him, Leeza popped by to point out that we're low on picks and, with migrants expected to be coming, a Fortress Guard would also need to be armed soon enough. I wasn't really sure about arming up some random people I've never met, but it was a point. It was then that I was told that we, uh, didn't have any method of making weapons at the moment. None. At all. You can guess what my next project was!
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff6.png" alt="" />
<hr />Later...

DigDug

With a couple of things out of the way, I felt like I'd done enough to deserve a good digfest. Shiny, Manus, Bunny and myself went crazy with our picks in the ol' mines.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff7.png" alt="" />
I do love to dig. Not much came out of this round, aside from many happy faces and about five to ten gems. It was then that I noticed nobody was working these gems, so I grabbed the only half-decent cutter around - Shattered Dreamer. He, like Lance, was spending his time engraving. Seriously man, there's a whole club of them engravers. Oh well, I think Levian is getting moody about not having an office so I suppose they're at least doing something worthwhile. Anyway, Shattered Dreamer got to work on the gems.

While I was at it, I stopped Tavrobel from doing a little stone detailing of his own and moved him into the stonecrafting business. I figure there are so many damned stones around this place, may as well do something with them them... I got him to work on some rock instruments. Rock! I'm pretty excited about this, as the only music I hear around this place is heavy metal.
<hr />Later...

The Others

The next day, it happened. They came. "Just a few" said some bloke called Jiro as he wandered past. Just a few my hairy dwarven arse. 18! 18 of the buggers! Urgh. Just my luck. I spent the entire damned day figuring out what to do with them. Look at 'em flowing over the hill to get to our entrance. It was like they were doing a loop and coming back over again just to take the piss or something, it seemed endless.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff4.png" alt="" />

Here's a list of who they were and what they do. Well, what they do now! Like I needed 4-5 more engravers, a couple of leatherworkers and a weaver? Pshaw. We don't need to change our clothes down here. And to top it all off, Psy and DK had finally had enough with each other...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff3.png" alt="" />
...so I had to split them up. Lucky for me, they were both highly competent at what they do, so this at least meant that with the new recruits (heh, bet they weren't expecting that!) that were flowing through my doors would have someone to teach them the ways of the warrior. I asked them their names and professions, and this is how it went.

"Rocket Edge. Mason."
"Fine. Whatever. You can cover the shifts of Nocti and Rye."

"Chemical. Leatherworker."
"We don't have leather. You can brew our drink. Can never have too much drink. Find Lynx."

"JKTrix. Mason and engraver. Well, still a novice, bu--"
"So you're crap. You can play carpenter instead. Cover MILF and Proto. Learn fast. Now bugger off."

"Jiro. Metalsmith. Furnace Operator. Metal Crafter."
"Don't need one yet, our furnace operators are always idling anyway. Don't have too much metal, won't waste it on crafting just yet, not even bolts. Say, you ever held a weapon?"
"Uh... well, yes, but that's not to say I've use--"
"Good - HEY LEEZA! WE GOT ONE! - Hey, lad, follow this lady. She'll see you right in no time. Don't piss her off, she owns your arse now."
"But--"
"NEXT!"

"Serapy. Uh... Furnace... operator... I'VE NEVER HELD A WEAPON IN MY LIFE!"
"Ever mined? No? First time for everything. Grab a pick."

"I'm--" I punched the next one. "Ouch!"
"You can take a punch. I like that. Welcome to the army. Roxanne, he's all yours."
"But... I'm an writer!"
"Less engraving, more weapon waving. Grab a sword."
"But this guy's wearing makeup!"
"Yeah, and you're his bitch. NEXT!"

"Wolf Kanno. Animal Caretaker."
"Well, we already got a trainer... oh, hey, tell you what, you can hunt. You have wolf in your name! You'll be a natural. Nobody names themselves Wolf Kanno without being a hunter, right?"
"My parents named me. But I'll do my best.
"I like the cut of your granite. Get out there."

"Vivi22, Leatherworker, at your service." "And me! Booga! I'm a peasant!"
"Okay, you two. Fight each other for your lives and live off each other's meat, or change your jobs to something that'll get me food. Or join the army or the guard or something.
"Right. Uhm. Vivi22, Farmer, at your service." "Oh, yes, I'm a wonderful guard, I am! Uh, Booga, Fortress Guard, at your service!"
"That's better. Vivi22, Go ask for Demon Dude, he'll show you the ropes. HEY LEEZA! Ready for more!? Yeah, Booga, go with her."
"Right!" "Right!"

"Zeldy! Tanner!"
"But you don't have a tan."
"Well, yes, that is, uh, that I tan hides."
"Your hide is white. You suck at it. Pick. Mines. Go. NEXT!"

"black orb. Engraver and Mason."
"Oh, for the love of... Fine, fine, fine. I swear, I'm gonna kill the next guy to say they're an engraver."

"Fujiko. En... uh... oh, geez."
"Soldier?"
"Y... yeah... *sigh* soldier."
"Good call. Hey, hero. C'mere. Take this lady to Shlup. She's your new squad member."

"War Angel. I WEAVE!"
"What kind of smurfed up :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty arse weaver calls themselves WAR ANGEL?"
"I WEAVE!"
"No, you bloody don't. Not here.
"I WEAVE!"
"If I just take these here needles off you... like so... and just... put two swords into your hands instead... like... that, yeah, what do you do then?"
"I WEAVE!"
"Yeah, I guess that'll have to do. Look, uh, hey, DK. C'mere. You're new to this leader thing, but uh, if you take this guy off my hands, I'll let you take Jessweee out of Shlup's crew."
"I WEAVE!"
"Yeah, he smurfing weaves."

"Hi. I'm Jess. I'm a milk maiden." Cue the curtsy.
"I bet you are, love. Live on a farm, did you?"
"I did indeed!"
"Good, you're a farmer now. I'm sure there are a few lads around the place that could use a bit of milking on occasion, hur, hur, am I right guys?" A bit of laughter from the crossbowmen on the tower.
"I don't know what you mean..."
"You will! NEXT!"

"Meat Puppet. Butcher."
"Fitting. Alright, we can use another cook, I guess. Brew a bit too? You better. Find Lynx, he'll see you right."

"qwertysaur. Peasant."
"Fortress Guard."
"Fortress Guard."
"Good. HEY LEEZA! ANOTHER ONE! Go."

"Hi. I'm Sagensyg. I'm a Smooth Operator."
"Siege Operator? Huh. We don't really have anything for that just yet, I guess, but uh, well, we could have you cover mechanics a bit I guess."
"No," he says, all calm. "You see, I'm a smooth--"
"We don't want any bloody smoothers or engravers, we have enough, so like I said, mechanics. NEXT!"

The last guy wanders up. Thank S[fishimage]rek, the Coal of Hearts.
"... uh... let's see now... I am... the... Duce of Daggers!"
"We don't have any daggers, mate."
"No... no daggers?"
"Nah. Got swords."
"No daggers. :("
"Swords."

Mouths to Feed

65 dwarves! A new record for me! Not gonna have them starve this time, though, so the miners and farmers quickly get to work on doubling the size of our food plots. Here's Genius Lynx doing his thing (hidden by my green cross thing). Guess he doesn't trust the new blokes for it just yet...

<hr />Later...

Hammer Time

You know, I just noticed we have no cats. Elves aren't selling them, either. Ah well. Maybe next time. I make a note to request them.

Just as I was thinking this, I get a slab of metal with an engraved note from Pauper that Freya has become a metalsmith, and celebrated it in the same way most dwarves celebrate becoming a metalsmith: Withdrawing from society. Can't blame the lass, with all these new folk around. She finally finished it off and came up with... a WAR HAMMER! Now that's what I'm talking about! It's, uh, got a lot of tin in it, but hey, beats a grate, right?

Summer, Summer, Summertime

So I'm busy digging when I get some news from many floors above - Iceglow has become a legendary champion! Splendid! This whole fortress thing isn't turning out so bad. I check in to see how the very-picky Mayor Levian's office is coming along and BAM! Summer. So that's one update. Oh God. How many seasons do I have to do? D= Hopefully won't get 18 migrants next time. :(
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff10.png" alt="" />
From top to bottom...
Leeza's bedroom: Not actually that messy. Engravings are weird.
Leeza's office: Contains stone. Eh, I'll clean that up later.
Levian's bedroom: The one thing he's happy with.
Levian's office: Work in progress.
BoB's bedroom & office: Eventually Rye and Tavrobel's bedroom and office?
<hr />
So basically: 18 new people arrived, I dug a lot, I reassigned a few people, I expanded the food area, I added an area for smithies, I worked on offices, I re-organised the military a little.

Hahaha funny update, I dig it.

Although just gotta say: We have a way of making weapons xD It's in the bowels of the fortress because it's magma fuelled. Press F4 and you'll see it! Plus I think we already have Wolf Kanno and Lekana (as Freya).

But, good job! Everyone is very un-dead! And I don't know why poor Roxanne hates everyone and is friends with that rotten Necronopticous.

Also I am so surprised Iceglow has become a champion. I have only ever had one Marksdwarf reach Elite, let alone Champion.

No Wolf Kanno that I can find. Freya, yes (Who allowed THAT name change? Urgh). I'll change Lekana to Fujiko.

I don't want to know why you only make friends with the local child predator. But really you're friends with a lot more people, they're all on the previous page. Like ShlupQuack!

Towntwinkles - 22 Early Spring by Psychotic (http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-7529-towntwinkles)

Added it to the Map Archive and I used the same font as MB and Nec so it didn't look out of place.

The fortress used to look so stylish until I came along! I just hacked buildings into the walls wherever I felt like it. Sorry. :shobon: Also I made holes in existing walls because there were traffic issues, particularly in that one-tile corridor by the bedrooms. Not all of it is because I lack design taste!

Also I think it was Monda who generated the world so I gotta ask, how did you get the .txt report on how many types of each creature there are in the world?

Dude you need to put them on duty.

m -> v on each squad leader, then press t to put them on duty.

Then when you're back in the fortress, press x for squad command. Use the s button to "station" them in places (I just use it to tell them what I want to die) they should be stationed in the gatehouse by default as that's usually a good place to be!

When the battle is over and if we're still alive, put them off duty again. They don't gain skill levels if they're on duty, you see.

One Goblin decided to take the stairs and walked out into the middle of the barracks. This was pretty funny to watch, I gotta say.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff14.png" alt="" />
Most of the goblins at this point ran off...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff15.png" alt="" />
...after the remaining Elves!
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff16.png" alt="" />
Meanwhile, in the barracks: "Haha, that was pretty funny! I mean, haha, I wonder if there are any other goblins terrorising the fortress at the moment?"
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff17.png" alt="" />
"Nahhhh, probably just the one. 'sall good."
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff18.png" alt="" />
Eventually, Rantzien, watched closely by Ouch!, chased them off on his own and beat the crap out of them.

What I learned from this battle: Don't worry, even if you cock up, the soldiers will figure it out eventually.

Also if you want a list of kills just select a soldier with v, there'll be a thing at the bottom that says "view kills" if they have any, and hit k and it'll show you a list!

I accept that blame, but it's not like it's much worse than, you know, sending them into a trap and making them face off against werewolves or anything. :p

It's got to Autumn. Only three other things of note happened, really...
1. Christmas II replaced Levian as Mayor.
2. We found about twenty gems during another mass-dig.
3. No new migrants arrived.

Alas, I come bearing bad news. Today we were ambushed by not one, but two groups of goblins - at the same time as a caravan with a liaison from Vucar Bab arrived. The initial group came with bows, which caused us many a problem as we could not just leave them where they were to destroy the caravan too far from even Iceglow's range. All forces were sent out so as to make as swift a kill as possible, minimising any chance for them to slay one of our own. Sadly, this was not to be. Charging at the forefront of the forces was DK, flanked by Jessweeee and War Angel. DK took the brunt of the shots, and could not reach his foes before he fell to his knees. At this point all other warriors were out, and the goblin threat doubled as a group of sword-wielding goblins flanked us from the South. It would be a wise move tactically, but for their limited numbers as the bowmen were mowed down by Jessweeee, Rantzien, ShlupQuack and Shoeberto. They would turn to find that DK had died from his wounds, bleeding to death. I am sure they all know that had he not charged ahead, it would likely have been one of them. I am sure that DK would be proud of his squad, which in the form of Jessweeee took the lives of two goblins. Maybe someday we will see a second coming of DK, who has his deathspot marked with a yellow X in the below image. As you can see, it was a bloody battle indeed. ShlupQuack and Psychotic's teams stand guard to the right, post-battle, whilst the remainder of the caravan enters the depot, guided by their soldiers. DK's grave room is being decorated as I type.

<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff20.png" alt="" />

Rantz defeated Axegoblin Snang
Rantz defeated Axegoblin Kutsmob
??? defated Swordgoblin Udil (nobody had Udil on their kill-list - I assume it was one of the Elves that got the kill)
Jessweeee defeated Swordgoblin Ngokang
Rantzien defeated Swordgoblin Stozu
ShlupQuack defeated Swordgoblin Nako
ShlupQuack defeated Macegoblin Dostngosp
Shoeberto defeated Bowgoblin Smunstu
ShlupQuack defeated Bowgoblin Bax
Rantzien defeated Bowgoblin Ngom
Jessweeee defeated Bowgoblin Mato

RIP for my homeslice. He was one of the good ones. I don't know why the smurf they are spamming bowgoblins at us but this is not good at all.

Also they shouldn't have been outside Iceglow's range. Was his squad on one of the floors (2, 4, 6) which have fortifications which can be shot out of? I keep 'em stationed on floor 2 as that way they can fire directly down into floor 1 should the gatehouse be breached.

Loony BoB
11-28-2009, 08:17 PM
If they weren't out of range, they weren't dying fast enough to not get to the caravan/stairs (no injuries at the time). It took some time to kill them even with all the guys out. Might have had better armour or something, not sure... never faced bowgoblins before. They were on floor two like you said, yeah.

The goblins never go in through the gatehouse, though, they go in via the underground depot instead, every time. Next set of immigrants it would probably be worth setting up a second tower with a few extra crossbows stationed there as a fifth squad (along with a DK II to fill in the vacancy left in the original DK's squad). No migrants this time around, though. Like buses, they are. 18 at once, then none, then none.

EDIT: You have a bear and a wolf in there, too. xDD How'd you do that?
EDIT: All the dwarves are leaving items in DK's grave. Mass mourning in Towntwinkles. :(

You must have started in a good area rather than an evil area (or anything inbetween).

Yeah, I guessed that was it in the end, Psy - turns out we only had five buckets and I'm guessing it was a long trip or something... but sadly there's not much I can do for the dead, and the buckets aren't moving anywhere now.

Okay. My turn is over! Here's a run-down on what happened for the last season...

1. Immediately after the death of DK, Leeza went into a mood and came out with this sucker...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff23.png" alt="" />
2. Everyone else was hard at work as they engraved the floors and walls of DK's tomb, adorned it with statues, and laid many an item of clothing around his grave.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff24.png" alt="" />
This is what it looked like at the time I was forced to turn my attentions elsewhere...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff25.png" alt="" />
3. Oh, and a massive furniture storage room has been set up. Here's Zeldy, Manus, Shiny, Serapy, Bunny and myself all working hard to get it ready ASAP.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff26.png" alt="" />
4. Another heavy ambush, and yeah, I found out that Iceglow needs to be on the first floor, so by the time I got them there they could only fire shots down at the passing goblins. They got one or two, though!
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff27.png" alt="" />
They entered the barracks once again, only this time there weren't any team leaders around - Booga and War Angel were woken by bolts to their chests, and although they still put up a fight, it was actually Rye that held out the longest, fighting here in the lower right of the image.
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff28.png" alt="" />
Eventually, after defeating one of the warriors, a second goblin aided his sinister friend to defeat Rye. The soldiers at this point swarmed through and destroyed the goblin threat. Mourning would continue for some time now...
5. But this game would not even allow dwarves to grieve. Miasma was pouring throughout the building from all the death, somehow going down the stairs as well as up them. It got everywhere... mostly in the bedrooms and the entrances to them (including the barracks).
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff29.png" alt="" />
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff30.png" alt="" />
6. All seemed well, at least, according to the announcements. For some time after this, all I got were messages about experience gains. Then, suddenly, I get a ...death report. Thirst!? Well, as you can tell by previous recent posts, it turns out some were injured during battle and water could not reach them fast enough. We have many buckets being produced now...
<img src="http://www.aiyon.com/keke/dfeoff31.png" alt="" />

I began with 47, I finished with 55. I even peaked at a personal record. The only thing I can say for certain is that I'm not the guy to lead this crew forward. I send a message to the King at the break of Spring, and he allows me to pass on the role to someone else. I look forward to mining again... one thing I'm good at!

11-29-2009, 09:21 PM
The messenger read aloud from the heavy stone tablet he had carried across half the realm to bring to the fortified fortress of Towntwinkles it's runic message etched by the hand of The King himself, "It is with great sadness I write to you kin of Towntwinkles, the rule of Loony BoB is over his incompetence in commanding the armies of Towntwinkles against ambushes and attacks by the conniving Goblins of my realm means I have no other choice. Towntwinkles must be ruled by military acumen and might. I have spent a long time looking through the records of the military in Towntwinkles, my initial choice it seems would have been DK the great champion, however with the recent events taken in to account and little else to choose from other than psychos and weirdos I have decided that it shall fall upon the elite champion marksdwarf Iceglow to reverse the misfortunes that have befallen the fortress of late. All hail the new regeant, Iceglow Ushatoltar lord of Towntwinkles."

Iceglow's crossbow banged with a hollow thud against the door of the grand meeting hall made by Psychotic as all eyes in the room turned on him. Some of the dwarves bore testament to the many fights that had besieged his people of late. He refused to be parted from his crossbow, Miriel his love often despaired of the fact that he refused to put it down but like he always said "You never know with the blithering idiots who have led us will not let us know that there is imminent danger." Now it seemed the blithering idiot would be him...he tugged his beard nearly ripping it off as he tried to make himself look as much a piece of the door as possible. Shlup moved first walking up and slapping him so hard on the shoulder he got propelled across the room in to the regeants throne. "Well done, now get on with it!" she said grinning broadly, Iceglow could have shot her for that he thought. "I...I cannot lead, I'm just a marksdwarf! Anyhow I don't want to be one of those blithering idiots who rules this place for the King, tell him I couldn't care less, tell him to come do it himself! I don't need to be holding Celes' hand every time she needs to go toilet I don't even like Celes Rithbavast and most of you are merely passing acquaintances I wouldn't so much as give time of day to except to go drinking with you. I...Aww shucks lets get on with it!"

And so a new era in the history of Towntwinkles begins, Iceglow is in control lets try not to kill you all.

Spring update

Day one:

Firstly: I think the people of Towntwinkles who merely know me by reputation of being one very fair shot need to know more about their new leader.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/iceglowis.jpg

As you can see, I am a legendary shot with the crossbow, I'm just not that confident of my skills I keep having nightmares of overwhelming odds of Goblins storming my gatehouse and getting up the stairs and cutting me and my squad down, it's for this reason I will be increasing my squad size to 5 dwarves as soon as possible I will also be considering the expansion of our defences and the building of a sister tower to the one I currently hold. I've dabbled in the skill of wrestling perhaps I will learn some more skills from my friend Shlupquack. I'm also a very smooth talker as we can see, it's no wonder that the next thing I will reveal is the way it is...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/iceglowpersonality.png

I've the good fortune to be courting the delectably edible Miriel oh how her downy cheeks and ample bosom make me feel so happy I could see a goblin right now and I wouldn't care less. I'm friendly so just don't be expecting Necro's weird trap to be used again. I figure it's time to try and turn this fortress around I don't care much for authority and organisation but well, I am rather fond of living and therefore I feel that my ability to do so will be greatly enhanced if I can improve our defences.

I'm generally quite friendly I'm not a keeper of many secrets so I'm happy to show you all what I think of you:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-2923-57-30-46.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-2923-57-39-75.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-2923-57-46-15.jpg

As you can see I dislike Celes and Rye, those two blundering fools need to keep clear of me when I am on important business. Celes' lack of modesty about her work perturbs me I feel that it makes her an arrogant sort of dwarf someone I'd like to leave locked out of the gates when the enemy come to call. Rye on the other hand, well does anyone like this dwarf? Psychotic has already chronicled her peculiar smell and aggravating voice but more so than this her constant jittering behaviour is starting to work against her she's always jumping at shadows, the amount of times she's pulled a weapon on another friendly dwarf since her joining the guards I cant begin to count I promised her last time if she done it once more to me I would lock her away.

Now thats about all I have to say for me because the rest of the things I feel you should see not hear. Onwards to the meat of it, I rightfully described BoB's reign as one of a "blithering idiot" and I wasn't wrong. Recently he complained about how the enemy were still gaining entry to the fortress before he knew it and how there was a rising misama all around the fortress from the dead. I have two pict slates which will show just why he was such a blithering idiot in command...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-2923-59-39-76.jpg

Will ya look at that, not only did he not lock the damn doors he left them in enemy hands, how can I stop every damn invasion before it gets inside if I can't retake the gates this is a number one priority, until I've gotten the gates back I am going to do nothing else. I only hope that theres not too many of the runts around otherwise we may fall in some trouble, our millitary is small though it is very proffessional.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-2923-59-46-96.jpg

This shows why we had miasama everywhere, BoB had forbidden any to leave the fortress not even soldiers were allowed outside and at the same point in time he didn't bother to construct an internal refuse pile to seal away the corpses of the dead enemies around the fort in so when they rotted to bones ofcourse their evil gases leaked everywhere.

So this is my plan for my year so far:

Increase size and strength of the military and it's equipment as and when possible. Even Shlup will wear armour once I speak to her with all the charm I can muster. That or she'll wear it for fear of a crossbow bolt in her buttocks from four score paces away.
Improve the defences of the fortress with a new expansion in the form of a defensible corridor linking the trade depot to the rest of the fortress gatehouse, giving the trade depot a new defensive tower and it's own marksdwarf squad.
Futhermore, to Psychotic's pointing out that the strawberry fields are vunerable to archer fire, the construction of a low wall before the moat perhaps even sealing part of the moat to ensure safe area to gather water and fish.
Just to be sure the Blithering idiot did not happen to be right about the entry of enemies through our trap depot I will seal that off with a wall to keep out enemies.

All around, if I secure this plan of action and get it all in order we should see Towntwinkles begin to prosper for a while at least though I must admit as soon as I've got this going on the right direction I'm done and going back to my life of being nothing but the best damn dwarven crossbow user in the entire realm.

second update post should come tonight

ok, firstly I kinda didn't have time to write a proper update and as is it is currently Autumn in the game thus my turn is 3/4 complete. So far my turn has seen no deaths amongst the dwarves but winter is still to come and anything can happen.

So to finish off spring here is what happened:

Spring:

I wasn't impressed at all with our defences, in a bid to improve the state of our fortress after the mishaps of Loony BoB's rule I immediately dispatched the military to secure the entry point of the fortress. Immediately leading my squad up to the first floor of the tower so I could stand overwatch I noticed Shlupquack moving erratically. I made a mental note, have her pay a visit to a doctor or a butcher, whichever you prefer to call them. Since I had perfect overview of the killing fields in front of the fortress I decided to call the masons over and give them their directions. Below me Psychotic and Shlup secured the entrance that lunatic loony bob left in the hands of the enemy. The masons quickly got to work and before you know it the fortress began to look more like this:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3001-22-33-31.jpg

The fortresses new defenses were fast becomming something to behold you have an entirely new corridor linking the trading depot to the rest of the fortress. The plan is for the corridor to be a defensive position, there will be a grate surround for the marksdwarves to shoot in to the ground floor from which in turn will be full of traps when finished. This will be hard for any enemy patrols to penetrate past especially when we lock the doors sealing an enemy squad inside and position our archers in either the towers or the catwalks above. This building construct should help protect the castle with on a few warrior defenders needed at a time. As you can also see I expanded the rear of the trade depot to encompass a new room to provide an entrance to the second lower tower. I also sealed access to Necro's trap to keep the fortresses reputation good incase that would stop migrants comming.

Unknown to me I had accidentally (I failed to see where they went and remembered them when they announced they would depart soon) trapped an Elvish caravan. My response to this was "well tough you've sealed your fate, shouldn't go through small gaps in walls that are being built when you arrive." I was going to leave them there for a while but Necro the child predator decided to activate the levers causing the following mayhem to occur:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3001-22-45-67.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3001-33-17-55.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3001-34-13-35.jpg

I thought about it for a while and whilst I dearly wanted to shoot the damn Necronopticus for his treacherous act there against my wishes that the trap not be used for a while I saw the benefits of his actions. He'd saved the masons and myself a good deal of time and effort of trying to free the elves and keeping them away from the rest of the population if they went mad in the underground prison they found themselves in. I let it lie for now at least it couldn't happen again and the materials they brought would probably prove useful if only to trade with other people.

Thats the spring over with

Now for Summer:

Following on directly from Spring...

I was impressed however by how much gore the elvish caravan produced as witnessed by looking out of my tower at the refuse stockpile:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3001-49-43-93.jpg

As you can see, the end of Spring saw no new Migrants, after so much death and destruction at the hands of the lunatic BoB I didn't really expect that many to come for a while. However excusing the miasama from the remains of the dead kobold that attempted to break in to the fort, inside the new fortifications however was Psychotic's squad on guard duty the thief did not last long at all, I think they tore it apart in about 2 seconds, angry that a creature even dared to come forwards after the blood shed of the last year my military comrades and myself were chomping at the bit to get to grips with the enemy and give them a pasting.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/stonesense2009-11-3001-44-57-79.jpg

The above shows, the building on the surface in Stonesense the purple cloud like area is a miasama created by the thief that was killed by Psychotic's squad, the elves were still being cleaned up at the time and none of the other dwarves seemed to take notice of the dead kobold until it rotted. Note there is also an extension to the curtain wall so that the north side of the strawberry fields are protected from enemy archer fire. I will possibly consider a southern curtain wall at a later point in time or leave it up to the next person.

That covered most of what happened in Spring and the first few days of summer. It was not all of the things that happened in Spring or summer for that matter...

Straight off at the start of summer we had 2 weddings take place Momiji II stole the heart of Zeldy and Raistlin decided he'd love some of that Lekana ass...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3023-15-43-93.jpg

Celes was taken by a Fey Mood which is nothing unusual though what exactly is a fey mood I wonder?

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3023-33-35-33.jpg

We'd just finished clearing up after the thief and the elvish caravan and we faced a much bigger threat: AMBUSH!!!!

The defenses weren't ready but a quick locking of all outer doors and the positioning of one of the two squads of melee (sorry I forget which one was on duty now) in the new entry chamber meant that I could afford to order the few dwarves outside back indoors and then secure the doors behind them. My squads that weren't on duty at the time including my own raced to their positions in that entry chamber and the tower. Thanks to the new defences my snipers moved out on to the top of an unparapeted wall in an act of brazen valour to shoot at the goblin ambushers taking 2 of them down whilst the Goblin crossbow carrier managed to shoot anything but dwarves, I think he even managed to shoot a strawberry plant!

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-11-3023-30-44-71.jpg

The ambushers arrive (the hill to the south of the tower)

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/stonesense2009-11-3023-53-56-77.jpg

Our valiant millitary in position to react.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/stonesense2009-11-3023-31-27-69.jpg

The goblins were cautious the fortress was a lot more prepared to repel invaders than before.

Shoeberto was the first to exit the safety of the fortifications and shoot at the greenskins, seeing the stout hearted dwarf the goblins began to move towards the wall shooting, I quickly followed suit between us we slaughtered 2 of the goblins with bolts before Shlupquack decided she wouldn't let us have all the fun and against orders unlocked the door and charged out alone even her squad never left the building to follow they merely stood guarding the doors yelling at her to come back...Cursing I stepped out further to shoot more accurately the shots were on target as were shlup's fists and we smashed the remaining goblins down between us one of which seemed to have got propelled backwards 3 or 4 tiles by the force of a crossbow bolt to the face! I don't unfortunately have screen shots of this event but it was pretty awesome.

During this ambush randomly a thief stole a sock that had not been claimed yet from outside the walls, I didn't get him but I suppose the mangy kobold couldn't return home empty handed...

After the battle Shlup was shaking uncontrollably and I remembered her awkward and clumsy movements back at the start of spring after speaking to her and to others I discovered something I wish I hadn't, our indominable warrior Shlup had suffered a nervous system injury and needed to be replaced as leader of her Squad. Well that was it I was saddened but Psychotic was gloating eventually I convinced her she needed to come down but she agreed on conditions...Theundeadhero takes command and the squad consisted of the following 3: Fujiko (who had deigned only to use her fists in homage to Shlup her mentor) and that was it. I am friends with the mad wrestler and so I decided accept her terms rather than give cause to end up with a fist up my rectum whilst sleeping.

Christmas ended her term as mayor and Momiji II took control of the city mayoral role...And immediately mandated the construction of certain goods.

The Migrants, Psychotic promised his father would send never made it, I began to believe they were ambushed by a bigger party of Goblins, I considered this in a dark mood a good time to go out hunting goblins however the rest of our forces and the new mayor forbade me from enacting my thoughts. Psychotic practically begged me not to because it would bring his father here to discipline me and he couldn't hide from his own father no matter how much muscle he gained.

Remember I said Celes had been taken with a Fey mood? Well she had during the mini war going on through our gatehouse she had claimed a crafts workshop and what she decided to produce during this was:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0100-03-11-38.jpg

I'm sure it'll scare the children to sleep nicely if you don't behave and Necro gets to take you to visit this menacing idol and what he does there, well only he knows and he aint telling and we're none too keen on asking!

Then a couple of things happened to bring some more joy than our recent victories over our enemies brought us (and ofcourse the two marriages from the start of the season which is a sure sign that our town is recovering from BoB's time in control) Foa and Yars married and then merely a day later in a really rather surprising move Necronopticous and Sir Lancealot married too!

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0100-08-38-43.jpg

I wish the best of luck to the 4 happy couples!

And so we begin Autumn....

Iceglow

and so it is done:

Autumn:

There wasn't really anything that took place in Autumn it was all together too quiet! The only thing I noticed of interest was this:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0101-17-11-33-1.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0300-07-20-52.jpg

So Raistlin gets possessed and then immediately siezes a magma forge...ok you go there brother, you're a champion of the military and yet you sieze a forge...

Winter:

We began winter with an ambush, unfortunately Shattered Dreamer and Shiny were online. Shattered managed to hide from the Goblins however Shiny got cornered. I quickly activated her as a soldier so she would stand a chance to fend off her attackers, with her bare fists she ripped a goblin apart who was carrying a spear. Unfortunately her surprise victory was short lived, her actions made the rest of the Goblins pick on her, she faced down a spear user and 2 archers but unfortunately the archers put a few too many shafts in her and she fell to the ground never to rise again.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-15-32-59.jpg

Shattered dreamer hid here, right next to the entry point of the ambush.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-15-51-73.jpg

new recruit Shiny with her Goblin kill nearby, the archer to the top of the screen was the one who eventually killed her :(

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-17-40-89.jpg

Shiny's killers standing tall, I meant for her to get a proper burial in a soldiers tomb since she died in combat and took at least one of her opponents with her against odds which even for shlup or psychotic would prove insurmountable.

The Goblins went on to kill a fair few of our animals.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-17-54-55.jpg

the horsie got it...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-19-14-78.jpg

and the mule... the dead goblins here are actually some of the goblins from the ambush shot down by my own squad.

They also got this doggie

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-20-20-09.jpg

The Goblin died soon after for his trespass and the killing of the doggie it was my friend so we shot him full of holes for it...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-20-36-24.jpg

We hadn't even finished clearing up after this ambush when a second ambush kicked off, thankfully during the cleanup of an ambush I keep all forces on alert. I immediately began sniping at the second squad of Goblins whilst all dwarves from outside, including Shattered Dreamer made it back indoors and hid. Not having any archers to return fire the Goblin squad almost immediately fled with just 1 casualty and withdrew from the combat zone leaving me to return to cleaning things up and plotting my traps in fact the second ambush was over so quick I only got one shot of them fleeing...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-37-01-34.jpg

I knew winter was drawing to a close, I hope that whomever takes over next will complete my new gatehouse, there are plenty of things being made to lay traps with in the main chamber there and the flooring needs completion due to one tile giving me problems. I was so focussed on clearing up I never noticed that Raistlin was still in his magma forge, he'd become consumed with a feeling of melancholy and then because he refused to leave the forge he siezed he died of thirst....silly dwarf!

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0223-58-47-04.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd286/Lasuria/Dwarf%20Fortress/dwarfort2009-12-0300-07-39-97.jpg

So we got no new migrants in my year, though I started producing some mechanisms which will help increase the odds of us getting some (see the wiki for facts), I also had to bid farewell to Shiny and Raist, I'm just grateful I only managed to lose 2 dwarves, I had visions of me screwing up and ruining it all. I finish this post with a stonesense shot of the new gatehouse as it stands now though I am slightly miffed I didn't finish it:

Ok, so I'm done and the game is saved and ready to move on to the next, however according to the list it's meant to be Rye, since I am not sure if she is available to do her turn atm and afap/ik (as far as psy/I knows) hux is the same boat, what shall we do, shall we put it down to the next person after those two and then let them do 2 years apiece on their turn?

Good job (and by good job I mean bad job) on not getting anyone killed! You couldn't have arranged for an "accident" involving Shlup being pushed off the tower to occur?

I guess we should wait and see what Rye has to say on the matter.
