I finally decided to get one but outside of the StarOcean and Final Fantasy Tactics remakes, I am not really sure what I should purchase game wise.

Any suggestions? I'm more of a RPG and Strategy fan than anything else but I do enjoy quirky games. Right now my PSP library consists of Hammerin' Hero and StarOcean: Second Evolution.

Also, how do I put videos on this thing?

Persona, Valkyrie Profile and Jeanne D'Arc immediately spring to mind. There's also remakes of FFI and II if you don't already have them. I recommend branching out a bit from RPG's though. Otherwise you'd be missing great games like;

Both Syphon Filter titles
God of War
Both Patapon games
Both Locoroco's
Echochrome
Medievil
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

and probably some more I'm forgetting. You can also get PSX games on the Playstation Network and play them on the PSP so don't forget to check those out.

If you enjoy strategy games and rpgs I recommend:

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Jeanne D'Arc
FFVII: Crisis Core
FFI
FFII

Theres loads more but im forgetful.

There are 2 ways to put videos on your psp.

1. Use the sony application 'Media Go' which is basically a PSP hub where you can download games and movies off the PSN onto the PSP. I think you can also put other videos onto your psp from there.

2. Put the videos in manually into the PSP video (i think it was) folder. But you have to convert them beforehand which is a little bit of a pain. Use pspvideo 9.

Adding to the list.

Class of Heroes, it's an old school first person dungeon crawler.
Valhalla Knights 2, it's a pretty fun game. Can get a bit repetitive though.
Fate/Unlimited Codes, it's a fighting game. But it's just so awesome. It's download only though.

Nah, the Xbox was easily the worst in recent memory. Then again, the Gamecube wasn't a lot better.

I am very upset that you never played a Nintendo 64 and truth be told, this entire generation is lacking Role Playing Games. The majority of the decent RPGs are remakes for portable systems and I think the Xbox holds the most console RPGs with 20. A lot of which are ones I've already own on the PC.

I do own several of the portable remakes for last generation consoles. Just wondering if they are worth purchasing again? If nothing has really been changed than I don't really see the point of purchasing the majority of these.

As for the Playstation Network... How much does the games usually cost?

For the PSOne classics it's usually about $5. $10 if it's a bigger title like Metal Gear Solid sometimes.

I don't know about that... but I DO know that the worthwhile PSP RPGs tend to be not just "good", but "freaking awesome".

Valkyrie Profile = MUST-HAVE!

Disgaea 1 = MUST-HAVE!

Disgaea 2 = MUST-HAVE!

FFVII: Crisis Core = Cool game with awesome action scenes.

"Star Ocean 2" too (ps1), and I already played the FF1 and FF2 remakes with FF Origins (ps1).
Is so hard to make some new GOOD RPGs for the PSP?..http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/rodv/Luca-Walk-Front.gif

The biggest deterrent to buying a PSP for me was the lack of games that I wanted to play. But then I remembered that back in the day, we didn't buy portable games looking for these epic single player experiences to change our lives, or at least our gaming palettes. For that reason, I would advise you get a football or hockey game, try a racer (I can vouch for Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, seriously, check it out), get a couple of demos from the PSN and check some of the obscure puzzle stuff like "Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman: What Did I Do to Deserve This?"

There's been a lot of good RPG's name dropped in here. Disgaea's definitely up there. Final Fantasy VII and FF Tactics are also available on the Playstation Network. Vagrant Story will be up on the European store soon so if you make a European PSN account you can get that. Metal Gear Solid is a great choice as well, but the PSOne Classic title, not Portable Ops.

it is really annoying how companies release good games solely for portable systems.

Oh, well if we talk completely NEW games and not REMAKES, then that's a whole different story indeed. =P

...though if the maker of this thread didn't play those already on the PS1/PS2, then they are absolutely worth getting for the PSP.

An overlooked game is the Wild Arms game on the PSP. Not amazing mind you, but definately a decent SRPG and worth picking up if you get the chance.

Medievil

YOU MAKE MY WORLD GO ROUND.
...I mean.
I agree. MediEvil is totally worth the buy (Although I still prefer the original PSX MediEvil over Resurrection).

Actually, for the most part, I generally use my PSP to play NES/SNES/Sega Genesis roms (because ALL my old consoles are broken. ...Not my fault)

Otherwise, I use my PSP as a music source for when I'm taking my walks and want some kind of noise in my ears. I have more songs loaded on that thing than games.

...
Which is why I DON'T NEED AN MP3 PLAYER. :kaohappy:

I like Disgaea but seriously, they're not "must haves" for most people. They are pretty niché games.

It IS beautiful, isn't it? Though right now my MediEvil disk for the PSX is still in good shape (I treated it like gold).
So instead of that, I have the following PSX games downloaded on my mem sticks:
Tecmo's Deception: Invitation to Darkness
Kagero: Deception II
Deception III: Dark Delusion
Silent Hill
Koudelka
Martian Gothic
Parasite Eve

You can tell just by looking through my PSP that I love dark/eerie games. >>;
