My cat is an attention whore. When I’m trying to sleep, she sits in front of my face, and if I close my eyes too long she starts scratching me until I look at her again. :(

I was forced to close my door at night at my mom's house because one of her cats (affectionately called "the fat cat") would do something similar. He would wake me up in the middle of the night by lying on my chest and just staring at my face. Waking up to that is somewhat startling.

When my mom left my stepdad a couple years ago I had to give my kitty to TheAbominatrix but her kitties didn't like him so they fed him to the coyotes.

My cat Ariel died over the summer. I loved her lots. Then the kitty that was here moved out recently but i had a dream that she showed up at my backdoor. She was a cutie. Cats are great. I just hate cleaning up their poo and feeding them.

She'd woke ME up, as she does nearly every morning if she can manage to get into my room. Also thats her happy and content face when she does the half closing eyes thing, she was purring like crazy.

Those are amazing names for cats.

I had a stray kitty visit me for about 7 days. I thought it was beautiful and was so sad when it went away. Guess it's for the best though, my dogs were going INSANE wanting to kill it.

Marshall, your cat is very pretty. She seems about 8 years old. Am I right?

As for myself, I currently have two cats. No recent pictures right now, which is a real pity; Specky is the most beautiful cat I've ever laid eyes on. But I do have her baby pictures.
(1) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P1010655.jpg) You can tell how she was gonna turn out. She was adorable as a kitten, and is still. Somehow. Adorable.
(2) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P1010651.jpg) Being our little Christmas kitty?
(3) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P1010654.jpg) She was small then. She's still small now.
The black cat in the third picture is Zipper, who passed away exactly a year and one month ago. He got sick of some sort of lung ailment and then he tricked someone into letting him outside, and just...disappeared.

After Zipper passed away, I got...Woo, who sits weirdly.
(1) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P8050295.jpg) WOO! Upside-down kitty!!!
(2) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P8050292.jpg) Such unusual orange eyes...
(3) (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e160/Bandkanon/P8050291.jpg) I just don't understand him.
Strange cat.
...God. he looked emaciated back then. We can blame that on tapeworms, though. Luckily we got those removed and he's looking healthier than he was. You can also tell he was ill because you can see the inner lids over the corners of his eyes in picture 2.

I've had many cats before Woo and Specky. Aside from Zipper, there was his cousin Baby, who was the only kitten to be produced by Alfalfa. Then there was Missy, who was Alfalfa's sister and Zipper's mother.

Baby passed on due to Cancer soon after we got Specky from Texas (same place we got Woo). Missy had a constant skin condition and mental disorder that drove my father to sending her to the Pound (very upsetting for me because there was no prior warning), and Alfalfa...chose to leave when she fell ill.

I would never be able to live without the company of cats.

I've always been puzzled by the way most people name their cats. It's perfectly normal, but naming a cat after a person, or giving them a full name, or a human name, never crosses my mind when I get a new cat. In fact I never name the cat until after I've come to fully understand what they'll definitely respond to. In other words, I let the cats choose their names.

For instance it took an entire month for us to name Specky. Eventually we decided to name her off the speckles on her coat, which she responds to just fine.
Woo took even longer because it was so difficult to get him to like us. Eventually it came down to, whenever I said "woooooooooooooooo" he'd actually come towards me because that was the hint of food.

Zipper was named after the weird sound he made when he mawed, Baby was named for the fact that she was of a single-kitten litter, Missy as because she was a priss, and Alfalfa for the mark on her forehead.

When my little sister got a cat, she named it Lily. Beyond that, we really don't name cats in my mom's house anymore. The other cat we've had for 5-6 years is to this day differentiated from my sister's cat only by the adjective "fat" or "big" (e.g. "the fat cat"). I've especially never understood longer names either, since they wouldn't respond to that any more that just "cat" or "here kitty." Unlike at least larger dogs, who seem better equipped to associate themselves with a specific name, at least simple ones (I don't consider small retarded dogs in this analysis).

That being said, I approved of my high school English teacher's names for her cats (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern).

This is Willow. She found us after Thanksgiving in 2002. She was only three months old, meowing all night. When we opened the front door, she ran inside and never left. She's the most vocal of all our cats and the dominant female of the group. :p

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/Shadowdust/tarainsink5.jpg
We found Tara in August 2003 at the local animal shelter. She likes to spend her free time eating and sleeping. She's the one all of the other cats pick on.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/Shadowdust/fetchriver2.jpg
River found us as we were moving out of our old apartment in September 2005. She was just a kitten roaming around outside. I think someone owned her but apparently she preferred us so we took her with us. :p She loves to play fetch with her collar.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/Shadowdust/ember3.jpg
This is Ember. My wife found her stuck in a chimney at a church back in August 2008. She's the smallest of our cats, but also the fattest. She really enjoys pissing off Willow as she seeks to become the dominant cat in the house.

Ok, so the last time I had a cat was when I was in elementary school so I can't really remember much about cats or cat behavior. The kitty I posted about earlier is super soft and clean, does that mean it already has a family? It goes away for days at a time and then wanders over again and sleeps on our porch for like a week. It keeps trying to come inside too where it would meet a quick and sure death at the hands of my dogs (who have killed other animals before).

It's super pretty, but it doesn't have a collar. Do families usually let their cats just wander around outside?

I put out a box with a blanket in it when it got super cold here so that the kitty would be nice and warm. The next day the box and the kitty were both gone, so I'm assuming someone came and took the kitty away, but it keeps coming back. I worry about it, but I'm assuming that it's a kitty that has a family and just likes to visit. :o

Also, what's with the claws!? Jesus christ.

That sounds likely, from the rest of your post.

It's super pretty, but it doesn't have a collar. Do families usually let their cats just wander around outside?

Sure. I've had cats that were pretty much half-outdoors and half-indoors, and they'd sometimes be outside for a day or two at a time. Cats don't need training like most dogs to come back.

Also, what's with the claws!? Jesus christ.

Hmm?

I have two kittehs. They're gorgeous. Yessir they are!
Shellye is a Tortoiseshell. She's verra pretty. But extremely lazy. And Titan, (whom I lovingly call crack because he like to sniff, and then eat salt :D) is a rambunctious kitten.
Both of them know how to open the doors in the house so they can get in and out, and Crack will open the front door and stare outside for hours if we'd let him. ;)
Both of them together. This is a rare occurrence because they fight horrendously.
