Do you sleep with the TV on? I can't! It drives me crazy and keeps me awake, yet I know tons of people who do this, and it makes no sense to me! :D

I used to fall asleep with the television on. I always put the sleep timer on for around 45 minutes though.

I never used to, but my husband does so now I do most of the time. Not TV though; we usually put on a DVD of The Office. Before that it was always South Park, and The Simpsons before that.

It has to be something we've seen at least a couple of times so we can picture it in our heads while we close our eyes. It's a very effective way of not keeping yourself up with your own thinking.

Only if I've seen a scary movie recently and I'm sleeping alone :(

I got in the habit of doing so at my mom's house because it was very quiet there and I had trouble falling asleep. I don't anymore, largely because I don't have a TV in my room at my apartment.

I don't understand how anyone can sleep to music or television. I always get distracted thinking about the sounds.

The point is to think about the sounds so you can't think about anything else.

I always do literary or musical analysis on them because I'm a nerd.

Used to kinda be the same for me, but after a while it started to bug me a lot. I can't really sleep with any sound anymore, it wakes me right up.

I can't sleep in absolute silence anymore. I have to at least have music going.

1) it's a waste of energy, which = a waste of money!

2) how the hell can anyone sleep to the TV or the radio or anything. I honestly can't see it Ok, so sometimes when absoloutely shattered I have passed out in front of the TV but I'm talking like 9 hours sleep in a week or more.

I sleep with the television muted, because I'm afraid of what's in the dark... ;~;

No, but really, I am... 3:

I can't stand to sleep with sound, but light is okay. :3

Considering the amount of power a 42" plasma TV uses, I wouldn't do it even if I liked it.

Nope, I don't even have a TV in the room I normally sleep in that can be used to not play video games :p

I don't like to do that because I love sleeping in my bed, and the TV is in the lounge. Having said that, I have napped in the lounge on occasion while watching TV. The napping is done rather unintentionally.

sometimes, Although for me, it generally comes down to me dying before having a chance to shut it off.
I'm quite stubborn in thinking I can stay up longer than my body lets me. Body always wins.

I usually sleep without the TV on but if I've seen a particularly scary film, then yeah it remains on so its not all dark. :)

I couldn't do that, I have to have like complete darkness and quiet to be able to get to sleep.

I have to have it on always when I'm alone, and very often when I'm with Huxley. When I'm alone, I generally sleep with the lights on and the TV though, because I get so terrified.

That and it shortens the lifespan.

Word. I always sleep with the TV off, and no music as well. Being comfortable with complete quietness is important I think.

If you were a nerd it wouldn’t be a problem

It’s common knowledge that nerds never sleep

Do you two still sleep with the hair dryer on?

I got used to it when I stayed with you and Danielle, but at home I've always slept with no light and no noise. :jess:

Wait, wait... I can understand leaving a fan or a TV on... but a hairdryer?

Loony BoB
12-07-2009, 08:54 PM
You don't live in Scotland. It's cold. A fan? No. A fan heater? Okay. But that's just a hairdryer on a stand. So yeah! I thought it was weird at first too but I've become used to it now and I actually prefer it. Jess can vouch for how easily you can get used to it - especially when you have a hangover...

I sometimes just can't get out of bed to turn my tele off and I'm so tired that I'll fall asleep with it still on and the light aswell.

It could just be that the noise of the TV just means you're more likely to remember your dreams (you always dream, but don't remember most of them).

Can't do it, it creeps me out. The sound invades my dreams and I wake up after too long. Had to get used to sleeping with music on during college, though, as one of my roommates couldn't sleep without it. I sleep best in perfect silence, though a fan is fine.

In fact you usually dream about 4-5 times a night, and usually only remember the last one you had before you woke up. Waking up in the middle of a dream also makes it much easier to remember that you actually had a dream. I guess that explains why people often experience to be woken up in the middle of a dream.
