Ok so Ill start this off, lets hear from everyone what char people are using that shocks even themselves, that one you do that you thought you werent going to use. For me I have 3.
I am a huge FF4 fan my first 100 was Cecil, and now I refuse to play as him what is a shock to me first but my main is Golbez so Im safe.

My first shocker char is Warrior Of Light, I did not think I was gonna use him but I enjoy playing as him.

Second is Firion, I didnt really like FF2 and I just didnt think I was going to like him but I really do actually enjoy his char.

And by far my biggest one is infact Kuja, ask all my friends I dont like casters but something about him just makes me happy. Also I did just pick him up today at like midnight and got him from 1 to 61 plus his first unique weapon by 6AM. I am really enjoying him I think he will be my next level 100.

Anyone lets hear what everyone elses shocker chars are and why it is that they shock you that you use em.

Cloud Strife.

God, I was hoping to avoid that fangirl-obsessed mess, but he actually compliments my playing style very well.

I never wanted to play her, but Terra is my fave. The melee chars are just too hard to handle for me. She also compliments my play style.

I didn't think Squall would be any good, but at least as a beginner character (I did his story early to get it over with) he's pretty decent. I'm also surprised at how much fun it is playing Exdeath. I mean, I hate the block-attack style of play in most situations (I have every character's guard ability unequipped) but for some reason I find playing as him really satisfying.

On the other end of the spectrum, I was overall disappointed with Bartz's meager selection of moves.

Meager selection, maybe. But the moves he has are so overpowered it hurts.

I meant meager in quality, not quantity, actually. =P The moves he has just aren't my style, and are for the most part moves I opt out of using in the original characters.

Kefka is probably my biggest surprise cause I figured he would be too difficult to use since all the other characters seem to have glaring advantages over him but surprisingly; he has turned into one of the more rewarding characters and I'm still baffled how often everything seems to come together for him. His EX-mode is actually one of the more overpowered ones for the villains side.

I'm not too surprised by my play selection actually.

Kuja still shocks me to be honest, what also shocks me is im not a fan of Shatatto or w/e, she is just way to slow and most fights with her you really cant build her Brave that easy so she is just meh, so im gonna go ahead and try out all the chars and see what they are like to be honest

The full "Force of Resolute" Gear is pretty much designed for her, though you will never see her EX Burst again but then again its not as interesting as other characters. This gear converts EX Force into Bravery, and it allows for insanely quick acquisition to max bravery.

Cloud Strife.

Same reason why I'm avoiding Sephiroth like the plague, only the difference is that he actually sucks. I can tell that they tried to make him really epic, dramatic, and amazing too, but it failed and he turned out to be too predictable with that baseball-bat-sword of his. He's almost as easy to fight against as Exdeath is, no matter what behavior mode/equipment you have him set on.

I thought I would only be using Cecil, Cloud, and Kuja, but I actually took a great liking to Zidane and Onion Knight. Golbez really isn't my kinda character to play, but he's actually extremely fun to use as well. I don't use him much, but Kefka is also quite fun.

Does anyone main Ultimecia? She looks really fun to use but I just haven't gotten around to her yet.

I use Ulitmecia a lot. She was had to master, but her range is beyond overpowered and Time Crush is a death sentance if you pull it off. (guarantied EX burst)

New char for me, Garland, he is fun hard hitter, and I enjoy hard hitters, Im just sad the fastest char in the game is Onion Knight, hate him so!

Cloud of Darkness was a huge surprise for me. I figured from the villian sides I'm mostly use Golbez, but CoD is just so much fun to use that she became my main main.

I tried using all the other chars and only Cloud seems to be the best choice for me.

I really like his Brave to HP attacks combo:bigsmile:

Forward Dash --> Slash --> Omni Slash Version 5

Easy and straightforward for my taste.

As a fan of fighting games, I aimed to master every single character of the gameI've used Garland, Warrior of Light, Firion, Cloud, Exdeath, Jecht..., I thought it was funny that in an arcade battle I happened to fight Ultimecia as the final using Palamecia. I had been thinking about it the whole time I was playing "Who would win as Ultimecia is basically Cloud of Darkness and Palamecia combined?"
My favorite characters tend to be those with automatic combos like Jecht. I seriously need to play as Sephiroth. He is damn annoying as an enemy.

You would like Onion Knight as well then. He is very fast and when you master any of his brave attacks they all branch to both a follow up brave attack then HP attacks.

I was messing around with Kefka today. He is just so much fun to play around with, since so many of his attacks defy common sense, like his meteors that bounce back after hitting the ground to attack. And in EX mode all of them get even more chaotic and unpredictable :D

Also I found myself playing Shantoto a lot lately. Pupu is her best friend, because once her brave gets above 3000, her attacks start getting mean, and above 6000 they are beyond cruel. Also her bio attack almost always will break the foes brave if they commect an HP attack while it is in effect :p

There were several characters I thought I wouldn't even touch for a very long time but I ended using them quite often.

Kefka was one of them. I always liked Kefka in a strange kind of way - despite having a huge dislike to clowns - but I didn't really think I would be able to control him and use him to his best ability. I ended up trying him out randomly and I loved how fun he was to control, not only that I love watching how he walks/runs/prances around the stage - It makes me chuckle everytime

Zidane was one that really surprised me. Out of the characters that were chosen to be used he was perhaps one that I liked least (I just never really connected with him during IX) so I was surprised to find that I quite enjoyed using him.
