YouTube - "Red Feathered Drag Queen," Dark Messenger Arrangement from Final Fantasy IX (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu7iL979r68)

As a recently decided Music Composition major, I thought I'd do some practice and throw this together. Took me several months, because 1) I was new at it, and 2) I wanted to make it the best I could

And yes, the guitar solo (2:20-3:10) is a real, live guitar haha. Got the owner of a local music shop to record that for me.

I thought I'd share it as I know I myself was always waiting for a decent arrangement of this song, and thought maybe others were too!

I would LOVE to take requests from anybody for any Final Fantasy song http://forums.ffshrine.org/images/smilies/smile.gif

My signature has my Facebook music group and Youtube. If you want to follow my music and everything of the such, I'd recommend becoming a fan of the page! :D

This is interesting. What process did you go through to arrange this? What programs did you use?

In my opinion there is way too much going on in this arrangement. A mistake many amateurs make, including myself, is that we feel that the more intricate our music is the higher quality it is. This is not true. The key to music is reducing it to the simplest possible terms while keeping things interesting/catchy/beautiful.

You have too many ideas but this is still great practice for you. Next time my advice is to try planning ahead. Choose your instruments and other compositional elements before you start writing. This will help to give you perspective. Ask what instruments you will be using and why. Try to get a mental picture in your head where those instruments will go and when. Then, once you have an outline sketched into your head, start with the notes.

It's great to see more people studying musical composition. I am always up for exchanging compositions and sharing material so if you want to, send me a message.

The song was very... cinematic, if that makes much sense, especially within the first minute with the voice clips (0:45-1:15). I enjoyed how you really made the song your own. I know many people (myself included) who try and play it safe by making their arrangements very truthful to the original. I liked it lots.

Haha, kickass work. I really like the almost surreal feel to it. You've definitely got a lot of talent. Only complaint would be that the guitar is a bit quiet, and is drowned out by the bass at some points. Otherwise, top-notch. =)
