Thanks goes to Marshall Banana for the logo!

Since the year is coming to a close, I think it would fun to have an event showcasing what people loved about this year the most. The instructions are simple, just nominate once for each category below and send a private message to me (http://forums.eyesonff.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=18329)with the title, "Best of '09 Nominations" before the deadline. Please be sure to include the name of the award and your nomination. For the Best Quote award, please include the quote and the person who said it. The only other rule is whatever you nominate must be from this year. If you're unsure if a game, movie, television show, etc. is not from this year, private message me and I will let you know or you can look that information up on IMDb (http://imdb.com) -- otherwise it's fair game. You do not have to nominate for every category, but it's recommended you do so there's more to choose from in the voting phase.

Here are the categories:

ANIME/MANGA
Best Anime
Best Character
Best Manga

GAMES
Best Action/Adventure
Best First Person Shooter
Best RPG
Best Video Game Character

INTERNET
Best Internet Personality
Best Viral Video

Nominated like a champ. :aimsun: Was kind of hard to think of stuff because I usually get games and watch movies a year later than everyone else!

I guess I will.

If I don't get enough noms by the deadline, I might extend the nomination period to give people more time. I realize it's hard thinking of stuff. I say might because I don't want to encourage people to wait later, but if you think of more you can always just send another PM with additions! :shiny:

Nominated. I think I played far more old games than I did previously... I couldn't really do anything for 2009 stuff so I had to leave it out altogether. x_x; 2010 looks like it will be a much better year for gaming.

I have a question, you say "Best Anime of 2009" but are we talking about things that have aired on TV in North America or series from the Japanese '09 seasons? Or both?

Could be both, or either or. It doesn't have to have aired in North America. Anything you nominate could come from various countries as long as it's from this year.

Just as a side note, because this came up before, when nominating Best Album you can nominate an album with just one song on it i.e. a single album. Most often, singles are released on their own albums and if you like a particular song, you can nom the name of that album instead of the studio album. Make sense? I hope so.

You can nominate DVD or VHS releases in 2009. I doubt many things get released on VHS nowadays, but just putting that out there.

You know, I realized I payed so little attention to things like that this year, Anime is probably the only thing I'm qualified to nominate anything for...

The nomination period is closed for all except this award: Best Song which I am adding in at the last minute. One of the largest amount of nominations was for Best WTF is That Moment. For those who nominated, thanks for all the great choices! :shiny:

For those that already nominated Best Song, I have it down. Please be sure to include the name of the band/singer that plays the song -- not just the title.

The voting phase will begin after I receive enough noms for Best Song or Wednesday, January 7th.

I wish I had seen this earlier. Silly me.

I'd nominate for best song but I suspect I'm the only person on this entire forum that listens to either black metal or zeuhl so that pretty much rules out any chances of anything I would nominate for Best Song winning.

IMDB says it's 40% live action, 60% CG. There's quite a few scenes where it's obvious it was achieved with practical effects and real actors, though the mixture of the two is really impressive.

Best Anime

When I think of Anime, I think of something really cool with explosions, fights and a great soundtrack. Instead I get this...

http://img3.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire1/e7ed06dd8221ccfde3f89479cbc03cdd1248101057_full.jpg

Winner: Hetalia: Axis Powers

Admit it, cute things are hard to resist and they're even harder to resist when they're pint sized. For those who didn't want to vote for Chibi, it's okay. I understand that you just wanted to keep your masculinity intact.

Best Manga

I figured you guys would vote for the lesbian one. I had a hard time finding any appropriate pictures to show on here since most of them are X-rated girl on girl action. It's like Girls Gone Wild, but then animated.

Best Action/Adventure

Arguably this year has been a great year in terms of action/adventure games. We had Batman: Arkum Asylum, GTA IV spin offs, Assassin's Creed II and those other ones. These types of games allow us to pretend that we kick ass. It's a great escape if you will; especially if you work a desk job like my man in Office Space. XPlay announced the following winner to be the Game of the Year. Heh, chyeah. Adam Sessler thinks it's the cat's pajamas, so I guess that's cool.

http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/craveonline.com/articles/87175/image_assets/image_1.jpg

Winner: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Best First Person Shooter

I can't think of a game I'd want to play more than the winner of Best FPS. I mean, you get to teabag people, grenade them from the grave, shoot them repeatedly after they've asked you 500 times if you're a girl. I mean, what could be better than that?

http://www.teamteabag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/halo-3-odst-1791-500x312.jpg

Winner: Halo 3: ODST

Best RPG

If your name is Baloki then your idea of role-playing probably involves dressing up in a kitten costume and parading about the house. If you're not Baloki then you probably voted for Dragon Age. This won by an overwhelming amount. Of course, this is no surprise. When you put dragons, swords, and topless girls in things people eat it up.

http://gamernode.com/upload/manager//News%20Images/pre-order-drago-21255480865.jpg

Winner: Dragon Age: Origins

Best Video Game Character

When we look back on the iconic vidya game characters we can pay tribute to greats like Sonic, Mario, and Chun Li's thighs. This decade has sparked a plethora of new characters as well as bringing back some old ones, but enough about that. 2009 was the year of badass characters like Yusuf Amir who loves to go on crazy ass missions that make entirely no sense whatsoever, but are still amazing. He's gettin' Arab money.

I sorta figured Maka Maka would win the manga just 'cause not that many people here seem to actively read anything and that's what was getting linked around in chat a few weeks ago!

I have to admit that all the voting I did for the games was based on what I've read since I haven't played anything new from 2009 >.> I think the newest game I've played recently was Left 4 Dead 1. That's what I get for being a cheap gamer xD

Best Internet Personality

Over the past decade we have been greeted by various types of personalities like Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka and Chris Crocker. Among the more lovable ones is a man that comes from Eyes on FF. His name is Joel Holmes a.k.a. The Bastard Gamer. We've watched him rant about Sundays, video games and YouTube. We've watched him devour an entire cake in front of us and possibly even vomited at the sight of it. Regardless of what he's doing, we love it. So Joel, wherever you are, this one's for you.

Best Viral Video

The words best and viral don't exactly seem to coincide. It's like an oxymoron. I mean, it's like saying what's your favorite bacteria virus, e. coli or staphylococcus? Yet, when you add video the meaning immediately changes to something amazing. With the dawn of mass streaming and uploading sites, people were blessed by quite possibly the best the internet has to offer; the viral videos. One of the most popular ones of the year, The JK Wedding Entrance Dance was featured on the Today Show, Dancing With the Stars and other crap. The couple even made money off of it which they donated to charity (or so they say).

Best Website

One could say that the best website could be judged by the amount of memes it creates, the people who visit, the controversy it stirs and the hate mail the admins receive. Whether you go online to check your email or come here on EoFF, you've probably at one point in time loss brains cells by going on YouTube. This site has become one of the most renown sites in the history of the internet; which is actually a relatively short history in case you're wondering. You know a site is popular when even your grandmother is saying, "Let's watch that thing on YouLube." "No...grandma...YouTube."

Best Author

It takes a really good author to write something that people actually want to read especially when the majority of people hate reading anything above the second grade level; hence why Twilight is so popular. Mr. Burroughs was able to do just that and more with acclaimed works such as Running With Scissors: A Memoir and You Better Not Cry: Stories for Christmas. Plus he's bald and bald dudes are usually pretty cool. Ving Rhames, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel...okay maybe not the last one.

http://www.cbc.ca/arts/images/pics/arts_burroughs_392.jpg

Winner: Augusten Burroughs

Best Book to Get Someone You Hate

Do I even have to say it? You guys probably knew who was going to win this one before I even posted the nominations. If I can say anything I will say this, you know a book is bad when you have people who are barely literate and barely competent in the English language waiting on line to buy it.

Admittedly I haven't read the winner of this award. However, after taking a gander at the raunchy cover below and seeing how many people voted for it, I can say that You Better Not Cry must be pretty damn good. I will leave you with an excerpt: "My name is Augusten and I like writing about myself." Okay, that's not really an excerpt, but it's true.

Best Hook-Up

Who would have thought that a dorky golfer could be such a mack? Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months you've no doubt heard about Tiger Woods and all of his escapades. Whether you care or not remains to be seen. I know I don't, but then again I hate golf. Here's to you Tiger Woods and #1, #2, #3, etc. Play on playa!

Winner: Tiger Woods and 15+ women

Best Meltdown

Now, admittedly Bale is a good actor, but amazing acting could not save him from the horrors of sound production. As it turns out, one of the boom operators recorded Bale freaking out on the Director of Photography about lights. People were amused and some were outraged. They're light lovers you see. The freak-out became so popular that the music version of his meltdown was featured on the news right before they announced that everyone will die of Cancer.

Best Quote

If I had fingers for the amount times Kanye said something douchey I'd be some sort of a mutant thing because I'd have entirely too many fingers. His behavior during the VMA's even surpassed another WTF Moment of that night; that is Lil Mama randomly getting on stage with Jay Z and Alicia Keys while they were performing a song Lil Mama had nothing to do with. We know Kanye, you worked with Jay Z on a song, but you don't have to kiss his wifey's ass. If people can learn anything from Kanye's words it is to not drink right before an award ceremony and don't prance on stage with a haircut worse than a Sisqo doo trying to tell somebody they shouldn't have won. Whew, that was a mouth full.

Best WTF Was That Moment

The death of an icon. You may remember where you were when you heard that Michael Jackson had died. I was in my room and it took me a while to even believe that this was true. It's one of those moments where few who grew up listening to him on a daily basis like I did will forget. He touched the hearts of many through song in a way that many musicians could/cannot. Although there was a lot of controversy surrounding him; regardless of what he did he was still undeniably talented and ingenious. It's because of him that so many musicians who are popular today are going. It's because of him that we have such lyrics like, "Your butt is mine." Truly amazing. He will be missed.

The stuff with Tiger has just been so crazy. It was such a slow trickle of details initiated by "Tiger Woods was in a crash" where each part just became stranger and stranger. I kinda feel bad for all involved, but it is kind of an epic story when you think about all of the craziness to it.

what's the latest? I haven't kept up with it
- Tiger gets into a crash.
- Crash is suspicious, seemingly self-inflicted, but he doesn't want it investigated.
- It turns out he crashed his car because his wife was beating him with a golf club.
- His wife was beating him with a golf club because he cheated on her.
- Since the initial reveal that she cheated on him, there's been like, a hojillion women come out and say that he's slept with them.

I think that's kinda where it's been for a few weeks. It was just such a strange series of events.

Best Animated Film

Unfortunately I haven't watched Up yet because the bootlegger gave me a crap copy. Jermaine/Sheneyney/Shaquifa/who ever kept getting up for a potty break. Malik also kept talking during the entire thing. For that reason, I can't give this a proper speech/review, but I will say this, the concept of a little old man flying around on balloons is adorable. Tavrobel would be proud.

Winner: Up

Best Comedic Film

What's the key to geting a successful comedic film under your boot? Well, cast three guys and one extremely creepy guy with a fairly unpronounceable last name. Step two: Have the setting be Las Vegas. Step three: Give them booze and a chicken. Step four: Introduce extreme plot conflict that is, "Omg wtf happened to the guy who is getting married in like 3 seconds?!" Step five: Kidnap a tiger. Step six: Let Mike Tyson knock out one of the actors. Step seven: Cops suck. Steal their squad car for your movie prop and then have the actors steal it in the film. Step eight: Stuff a naked and vulgar Asian man in the trunk of a car. Final step: Watch your film sky rocket to success.

Winner: The Hangover

Best Dramatic Film

When I think of dramatic I think of Meryl Streep, but she isn't in this. That would be weird. The casting was incredibly perfect for such a violent film, but wasn't as violent as some of Tarantino's other films. Still, who cares?! Hitler gets killed. There, I spoiled it for you. No I didn't. Of course he gets killed! I will stop having a discussion with myself now.

Winner: Inglourious Basterds

Best Horror Film

Okay, I haven't seen this one either, but for some reason people are always scared by things with demons in it. See: The Exorcist. The hype around this film was extreme and according to the votes, it lived up to the hype. So congrats PA for some how winning over the terrifying film, Jonas Brothers: 3D Concert experience.

The other two were well-deserving of their wins, though. The Hangover definitely came out of nowhere to be the funniest movie of the year for me, and Inglorious Basterds was just awesome. Tarantino's still got it.

Best Album

When you give a guy with a puppy dog face and a soft voice a microphone what do you get? You get hordes of women throwing their panties on the stage and an award for being the best album of the year. The vocalist's dreamy lyrics and velvety soft voice is something few people can resist -- or at least few members of this site can. Go ahead, you know you want him to sign your boob.

Best Rapper

Jay's got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one. Winning awards for him also doesn't seem to be a problem. Ever since the release of his first Blueprint album, people have been calling him the King of Hip Hop. He is also the self-proclaimed Best Rapper alive. It's no wonder why people have been thinking of him in the same light for years now. He sells out albums, he sells out concerts, and has the hottest chick in the game wearing his chain. I'd be damn if this wasn't the best past five years for him. H.O.V.A.!

Best Band

To think, ten years ago they used to be a credible band punching out beats with an underground vibe. After getting rid of their old singer, they just aren't the same anymore. Now they've become more generic and popish. And with that "selling out" they've also become more popular. With all their singles hitting to the top of the Billboard for the past three or so years, it's no wonder why they are considered one of the biggest bands out there right now. They're unique, they're sellouts, and we love 'em even when we hate 'em because that make sense...maybe.

Best Song

I had a special thing planned for this award. I was going to ask a bunch of people if they'd like to sing this song. The way it would go: one person sings just one line from the song and then the next sings a line and so on until the song was complete. Then I would I mesh it together in Pro Tools with the beat and err thang. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time this month or last to get that done, but I think this would still be cool to do! What do you guys think? /notreallyaspeech

Winner: "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga

Best Solo Artist

The lone ranger is something that people can respect. These are people that have the gall to stand up on stage in front of thousands -- if not millions of people and sing their hearts out all by themselves. If there is one person who did this best, it was Michael Jackson. All the man had to do was grab his crotch, rip his t-shirt, and go, "Ohhh" and people would eat it up. It just goes to show you that even in death he is bad, dangerous, and invincible.

Best Comedy Series

When you mix vulgar gross-out comedy in with parody what do you get? You get a show that has withstood the test of time and constroversy. The writers, Tyler Parker and Matt Stone are not shy of stirring up the pot. They're pretty much the kings of making fun of celebrities, movies, politicians, Walmart, Barbara Streisand, Canadians, and anything else they can get their hands on. But perhaps, the most popular episode of 2009 was the Kanye West one featuring an auto-tune song about gay fish and slapping Marlin ass. Yeah, I dunno either....

Best Drama Series

Since the kick off of Season Four in 2009, there's been more buzz than usual surrounding the show, Dexter, about a self-righteous serial killer that kills well, other killers. The arrival of supporting actor, John Lithgow could have something to do with it. He stars as a seemingly cordial family man at day and a deranged serial killer at night. Sound familiar?

Best Game Show

Deal or No Deal took it's cue from successful game shows like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Weakest Link by stealing borrowing the premise from another country. In this case, they borrowed from the Dutch. The show features 25 or so female models holding cases with numbers on them. In one of these cases is usually a millionaire dollars -- though sometimes it's more. A person has to choose a case and hope that it's worth more than a penny. Then Howie Ball Head usually calls on his silly prop phone and speaks to a non-existent banker which offers contestants an amount of money to leave. They can either choose to take it, or be ballsy and play a game of pure luck and guess.

While I'd hate to live in a world where everyone or even a majority used autotune, I don't see the harm in its niched usage! It creates a specific sound which is quite pleasant in certain compositions. Much the same way that you find some movies are made much better by their special effects, which doesn't mean you want all movies to rely on special effects.

The Man
