We've all had New Year's resolutions, but now that we're about to enter not just a new year, but a new decade, how about New Decade's resolutions? What goals do you want to pursue in the next 10 years?

For me, I want to get healthy, be prosperous, and be an educator and an entertainment producer. I'd also like to write stories too. What are your plans for the next 10 years?

Next 10 years? That's a tall order!

That's mostly going to be vague. The concrete? In 10 years I'm going to be 29. By then I'd like to be married, settled in a career (preferably in the college education track), preferably finished or finishing a higher degree needed for said career track, have a condo or house, and have uno bb. As for the more vague, I'd like to not be so scared all the time, I'd like for by then to have a really solid relationship with my brother and an improved relationship with my family, to be healthy, and to not be so hard on myself.

Within the next 10 years I will decide which country I will live in for the rest of the 10 years. After that I'll decide if I want to remain homeless forever

Apart from the area of work (and the age), this exactly. But I'm not really thinking that far ahead just yet.

Where do you plan to go, Breine?

I actually want to go back to some of the places I already went to, like e.g. India, Japan, Nepal, China, the US and such. I really want to go to the countries in Asia I didn't go to the last time around.. basically I want to see the entire world. I want to see it all!!!

Backpacking and independent traveling is ace.

I don't know what I'll be doing in ten years or even five, but I do know what I'll most likely be doing in the next few weeks or next year. Long-term goals for this year and next year:

Learn Avid
Learn more of Pro Tools
Get an internship next year
Work during the summer
Possibly study abroad in Italy (Milan and Rome)
Floss my teeth more
Set a strict sleeping schedule after winter break
Succeed at producing a decent music video
Enter some of my work in the local film festival like I did last year
Go see Utada in concert (very excited about this) :jess:
Get tickets for The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien
Get tickets for Tyra Banks Show

Just one;

1. If I ever meet up with a girl in Dublin again, to not end up getting so feckin drunk I have no memory of the event after 10pm except getting chucked out of a taxi by the driver at 1am for making fun of him cause he's bulgarian. Then find out the next day it was goin well till I met sum Australians & started doin shots & shots of Jaegermeister. Then insult the barkeep & storm off ignoring the girl altogether & walk out of the pub & go home. Leaving her there miles from home & crying. And in one night get a girl who's wanted me for years to never want 2 speak to me again.

Yea that's mine. To never do that again, and by the grace of God I should be able to do it.

It's a good thing you all have a whole year to think about it, because it's not a new decade yet.

Raistlin
01-06-2010, 11:33 PM
I already had this discussion with Shlup already, (very one-sided because I was right and she was so obviously wrong) but a "decade" is just a collection of ten consecutive years. It could be considered associated with every ten years since the beginning of CE/AD, in which case 2010 would not be a new decade (and 2011 would be). However, the term is commonly associated with a group of ten consecutive years so that in XXAX the number for "A" stays the same (e.g., "the '80s," "the '90s," etc.). Neither is wrong, and in the latter sense 2010 would be the start of a new decade. It is arbitrary, but then so is our entire number and calendar system to begin with.

It depends on your definition. One looks back from the start of the calendar and one looks forward at the future years which share the same set of numbers. Both are correct, though.
