I've seen these on some other fora and on some folks' journals, and I feel like having one right here.

basically post the month and the titles of the media you consumed that month (movies, television shows, books, video games, . . . newspapers? idk) The idea is that you will have one post in the whole thread that you will keep updated. Maybe you will be surprised how much you read in a year, or how many movies you watch. Perhaps we should limit the music to albums that are new to you, since it's very easy to listen to one cd a dozen times in just a couple of weeks. Do as you like, however.

It's somewhat similar in premise to Nabokov's Pale Fire. Without spoiling, (as it says this on the back of the book), If on a Winter's Night a traveler... is basically about the character (only named as He-Reader or in the pages, "You") who is trying to read a book. It's freaking bizarre and fantastic. I'm only about 50 pages in, and I'm already in love, even though it's a bit hard to keep up with.

As for Nabokov, Lolita is the obvious first one to try, but I'd recommend An Invitation to a Beheading if you like dystopian literature.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was probably going to start with IoaWNaT anyway, so it's good to hear that it's as good as I was expecting it to be.

With Nabokov I was thinking I'd either start with Lolita or Pale Fire (I love metafiction when it's done right), but thanks for mentioning An Invitation to a Beheading; I'll probably check that out as well. His volumes are usually pretty slender if I remember correctly so hopefully I'll be able to try them all.

Also I'm probably going to reread The Catcher and the Rye and A People's History of the United States now since their respective authors just died. Haven't started doing so yet though.
