I personally think VII did the best with Chocobos - there was a whole load of stuff to do with them as well as simply ride them you could breed and raise them, eventually getting different colored Chocobos if you did it right. IX came pretty close with its "Hot and Cold" and you could also "upgrade" your Chocobos. I think FFVIII was probably the worst, because without the Pocketstation there wasn't really that much you could do with Chocobos - they can't really take you anywhere you can't go.
The first FF didn't have Chocobos.

Has to be IX for me. It didn't get old - still hasn't - the way VII's breeding did. VII's takes second place, though. None of the others comes close.

VII because the chocobos where everywhere. But IX was more fun though.

Myself I would say IX as I both enjoyed and completed the Chocobo sidequests. Whereas I didn't in VII.

You might as well only have two games on the list: VII and IX. None of the others came close. And both VII and IX utilized chocobos in a very entertaining fashion, so I'll say they're both good. Though I got less tired less quickly of FFIX's Hot and Cold.

Though it never had a mini-game attached to it, I've got to say IV was the starter. VII brought them back to the forefront and IX followed in VII's place.
The reason I choose IV is because they actually did more than just transportation, it was the first to feature different colored variations, and for most non-Japanese fans, its the game that introduced the iconic "Fat Chocobo" (Sorry FFIII :( ).
Yellow, White, Black, and Fat. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3nJnSqLquk)Its the first game I actually think of for Chocobos.

VII Chocobo racing, breeding, getting materia ect.
XII because the looked beautiful and were really fun to ride around the big open areas. Also you could choose the character you control up front and sit them on the chocobo

IX, Chocobo Hot and Cold was addicting, and served a purpose early on :jess:

IX's were probably the most fun/useful to me.

Wouldn't it also be the game that introduced chocobos to non-Japs period?
Anyway, when I think chocobos, I think VII, though Breeding <<<<< Hot & Cold. It's just what I think of.

VII. Loved going out and hunting for the right one, crossing your fingers on breeding segments, and of course racing them for prizes. While the racing was broken, it was less reptitive than pecking the dirt in the same places was for me. IX has the grand item searches at the end, but VII has that covered with the special materia as well. Knights of the Round deserved to break the game.

III had that little ride around the continent in a chocobo sidequest, I thought that was a nice scenic addition.

Final Fantasy V featured Boko, or Boco, as an important non-player character for Bartz introduced early on in the game. His role is diminished almost immediately after his introduction and he does not appear again until much later in the game, but I thought that this was an especially notable role for chocobos in the series.

II, as otherwise, there wouldn't be other Chocobos in the rest of the series. :p ;)

Final Fantasy IX did it best with hot n cold. Although FFVII is more memorable to me. I still have to say FFIX did it better.

VII! The races were just lovely. And I just loved the way you discovered the colored chocobos through the Chocobo Wise's hints. I hated, though, that the green chocobo gives you so much of a reward: Ancient Forest without Ultima WEAPON, Lucrecia Cave without Submarine and (quite probably) the very best materia in the whole game.
Maybe they should've swapped Mime and KotR.
