View Full Version : I'm not sure why but I love the scenes before the Final Battle(s).

Not all FFs did it, but most of them did, all the characters have this sort of "This was what my storyline meant!" type of speech, but the delivery of it is so, uprising for the final battle, FFVI and FFVII where probably the best at handling it - FFVI even put a slight spin on it with the "Self Help" line.

The 'self-help' line in FFVI is brilliant, it always cracks me up. I do like the atmosphere menace and foreboding just before the final battle starts.

Overall I think FF did a good job with it, however there where portions I wished I could skip, probably due to having to see it over and over again. Like the segment before fighting Black Waltz #1. I remember losing a few times because I wanted to steal the Mage Masher and the intro to that battle was fairly long-winded. Cool the first time, the fifth, not so much. Copy and paste that to the fight with Seymour Flux, I lost over and over to him, and would get bored of reciting the dialogue before the battle.
EDIT: It said "Final" battles. I should learn to not skim.

I like the bit in FFXII when they stop on the stairs and the subject of whether they will still see each other when Ashe's queen comes up. It was sort of bitter sweet.

I dont like the FFVIII one as I wasnt sure if someone dying during the final fight changed the ending so I kept reloading and having to watch the final speech before my prefered party was randomly selected.

I think it's nice how Tidus confesses that he will lose his life short before fighting Yu Yevon.
