I went and saw Between the Buried and Me last night. They headlined along with Cynic, Devin Townsend, and Scale the Summit.
Overall, it was a great show. I actually have all four bands on my ipod, and I do enjoy them all in some degree or another, so I had a blast last night.
Scale the Summit was better than I thought they would be. I'm a sucker for progressive sounding music, and was interesting to see their music played live. This is a band that I really need to listen to more.
Devin Townsend was up next, and I never had the chance to see him live, be it in Strapping Young Lad or his solo work. That guy is hilarious. He's a damn cartoon character. Even though his set was short, I heard a couple of my favorite solo tracks by the guy. Excellent set--especially for the small time a allotted.
Cynic was disappointing. I like the band, but their live act was very mellow. Whenever the lead singer talked in between songs he mumbled and sucked all of the energy out of the room.
Between the Buried and Me was excellent. Holy hell, what a show! I've seen these guys twice before, and I am always impressed how they find that perfect balance of sounding like the studio versions of their work without exactly replicating it whilst playing live. I heard everything off their new release that I wanted to hear, and they snuck in a couple of older songs in their set (even "More of Myself to Kill" off of their first release). After playing their longest song to date (around 17 minutes), they came right back out and played my favorite track off of Colors, "White Walls", which is another long, epic track.
Anyway, how about you? Do you have an absolute favorite concert that you attended? Or if you are like me and can't ever decide on one thing, do you have a concert that you went to that is one of your favorites?
Please don't make this a debate about music. If someone notes a band that you can't stand just let it go. It's tiresome how 90% of music threads turn into "my band can beat up your band."
