What is Final Fantasy?

And by that I mean, what song would you consider to sum up the entire series? If you like, you can pick one from the series' soundtracks, and one from anywhere you like.

Obviously Final Fantasy is an obvious choice. Although Terra's theme and the FFVII main theme are both really good, I think.

As for a non-FF track, I honestly can't think of anything right now. I'm racking my brains but all I think of are funny gimmick songs.

I think I'd go with the obvious choice and go with Final Fantasy itself. Or the Prelude. They're both very much a part of almost every game in the series.

I'd say the theme song for "Final Fantasy" is the well-known Prelude while "Final Fantasy" is more the ending theme, like it appears as staff roll theme in Final Fantasy VII, for example. Of course it is played in the beginning of Final Fantasy IV, XII, et cetera as well, but for me the prelude is more the main theme of Final Fantasy. It is awesome, it is sad, it is epic, it is fantastic.

I also feel "Final Fantasy" is the main theme, it suckes that they didnt use it in FFX I think the speech Yuna makes at the end wouldve been the perfect time to let it slowly buid in.

As for a theme to sum up the entire series, I think "Distant Worlds" from the Black mages third album is the perfect choice, all the FF games come to my mind when I hear this music..

Prelude is for me the number one theme for Final Fantasy. Not every game has had that theme song, but its always in the back of my mind at any start of a game.

The music is so whimsy and fantastical without any sort of spike or need to change the tempo through it. It takes you somewhere beyond our realm of reality.

Truly that sole track keeps volumes about the series as a whole..
