I have been listening to electronica now since about 1991, a kid I was buyin jungle & early hardcore techno when XL Recordings was king. I like to think I've developed a pretty good ear for it now, this goes for genres & choons.

In 2000 I had become completely disillusioned with the way house had gone (it'd already been going that commercial state over-produced direction since about 1998), I stopped listening to all but Dnb in so far as electronic music went. Garage, hated it, too happy, but there were some garage Prods. that felt the same as me & wanted dark nasty stuff. Slowly this dark bass heavy 2-step music was formed from a wide but similar collection of ideas taken from Raggae, garage & Grime, funneled into a definable sound we now know as Dubstep. This hypnotic head-nodding madness that hits you like a brick was my new eargasm of choice. The progress of it can be marked by a few standout tracks, I will go from it's rough formation from Skream & Benga's Garage crossover to right now where wobble & bass kill you;

The Track below needs a special mention, not strictly in the dubstep mould but in about 15 years I have heard about 5 electronic songs that I thought would change :bou::bou::bou::bou: forever, this Skream track is one of them, Total Epicness beyond years. It seems to incorporate all 15 years in 1 song;

I love love Borgore and Cookie Monsta. I'm a bigger fan of stuff like Uberdruck though (I think that's called hardstyle?) and the guy Coffeecore (which I think is called speedcore). I've never been good with all the different genres of electronic music.

And any remix of Nneka or La Roux is awesome in my books.

edit: Oh, and anything that is happy hardcore :bigsmile:

edit edit: oh and drum and bass. Pendulummmmmm!

Kiwi producer Optimus Gryme is my favourite dubstep dude.

Saw Skream a few weeks back in Sydney, it absolutely went off. I recently discovered Borgore; I hate his dumb vocals but man does he produce some good gorestep.

And I really like this track at the moment (Datsik).

It is really good, but all the sub genres are silly. That sounds like dubstep to me :/

It's too fast to be Dubstep. Dubstep's usually 140bpm. But I agree, subgenres are pathetic, trouble is THAt doesn't really fit into an existing one. He has abnother choon called 'Dread Balloons' that I love, can't find it anywhere to let u hear it.

there used to be some good house clubs back in the midwest (Cincinnati specifically for me) when I lived there circa 2000, and the DJs would push the tempos a little bit, but I think that stuff kinda faded from popularity. which is too bad.

They shoulda let house music die in the early 90s. Most 'club' music now is commercialised garbage, all catering to the same structure, bpm, same drops & same kick drums. Dubstep & DNB escape that.

Okay I'm done for now. Also: Hyperdub records (http://www.hyperdub.net/) is a great label. Some of the songs above is from their fifth anniversary compilation. Don't like Burial at all, so boring. Zomby is my favourite, obviously. Dude slays so hard.

I Noticed a pretty big rise in fans for the genre over the past couple years, Really great to see so many guys making it.

Recently I've been finding some Breakbeat and DnB type stuff.

My current favorite would have to be MAN LIKE ME - London Town (Doorly Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv-UMSdDYEE), It's a really gritty beat.
