In FFIX @Burmecia
Freya: Half my race has been wiped out and my hometown is in ruins!
Quina: Is there anything to eat? :|
Or something along those lines, what otherwise wouldve been a sad emotional scene is punctured by out of place humour. It really made me dislike Quina.
Also having to catch Rinoa in space about 3 times because i didnt read the instructions which said press X
And watching the scene before the Yunalesca fight for the 5th time in a row because she kept killing me.

Well what kills the mood for me is... when I go to play and think its going good. I still want to play more and then I die without saving. This kills the mood for me. Or when I know that there is only a 1/64 chance of getting something and thats all I have left to do in the game. Those kill the mood.

In pretty much any final dungeong pre-XII. Your running through a dungeon it's all intense and stuff and then Random Encounters! By the time you get to boss, your tired and annoyed and just want to hurry up and finish it. I really hope we never see random encounters again.

I always took random encounters for granted, so they never bothered me. I do like games that don't have random encounters, though.
While we're on this note, I have to say that I'm getting annoyed at the trend of having a lame music for the final dungeon and it still having normal battle musics. You don't have to make every battle play a boss theme or something, but a battle music that sounds a little more serious would be nice. As for lame final dungeon musics themselves, not too many final fantasy games have this, though Final Fantasy II comes to mind. However many other games are going out of control with having some bland, boring music for the final dungeon [like Star Ocean 3, 4, and Valkyrie Profile 2].
I think this is branching too far off-topic, but I have to establish my annoyance with games in general that have really lame normal battle themes. Seriously, I don't think they even try with some of these, as 99% of them sound like some crazy waltz in the park.

-Definitely getting KO'd and starting from the last checkpoint when you're really immersed. Absolute worst is getting LV.2/3/5 Deathed or some other bull:bou::bou::bou::bou:.
-Most mazes during which every screen is near-identical and only a specific sequence of exiting the screen gets you to the destination. Hate that :bou::bou::bou::bou:. Not interesting at all and the textbook example of tedious.
-Most of FFX's terrible voice acting. Every time I think I'm getting into it, Seymour, Cid, Yuna, or some voiced extra says a line. I really want/wanted to love this game, but it just won't let me. FFXII`s was much better, or at least way less awful.
-Also exclusive to FFX: restrictive paths. Linearity, not in the lack-of-a- vast-overworld sense, but in the sense that about a third of the way through the game I realized I'd essentially seen and done everything (ie: pushing forward down a straight line and occasionally solving painfully easy orb puzzles). In an RPG, expecting the unexpected is pivotal to the experience EVEN if it doesn't always deliver. Knowing/feeling that the developers have included very few surprises for the rest of the quest can kill the whole experience (a lot of games are guilty of this outside of FFX) - even worse is when your suspicions get thrown right in your face like a pie. Bevelle almost made me use the game disc as a coaster.

Guessing where the plot was going to go multiple times. Granted a lot of stuff is predictable but when you are literally guessing right, stuff that is suppose to be a "surprise" it kinda kills the "epic" in your epic. *cough* FFX *cough*
I'll second having lame music for dungeon battles or even Final Boss battle themes. I may never understand why people like The Extreme or The Final Battle from VIII and IX both were pretty bland.
Having a character you really hate in your party talking. I can't fathom how much I hated Yuffie uttering a single word in VII and god knows Yuna always said something dumb whenever she opened her mouth, to go along with Rikku and Born Again Yevonite Wakka. God every time they opened their mouths all of them found new ways to irritate me. This is especially excruciating if the lead is the character you dislike.
dying after not saving for awhile and after you acquired a super rare item. I can't remember how many times I got annoyed with Tactics when a character dies (making me have to reset cause I won't leave anyone behind) and I just obtained something awesome in a random encounter. FFV had a few deaths like that where I got killer Blue Magic or rare weapons only to get instant killed by a well placed Lv. 5 Doom.
Having crap stolen from you and having no means of ever getting it back... Super annoying in FFTactics. Favorite story was when I was helping a friend play through VII and I was leveling Materia in the Crater and learned the hard way that Megelixers don't count when dealing with Magic Pots. This resulted in the Magic Pot stealing the Venus Gospel from me and now my friend lost out on one of the Ultimate Equips this happened after a few hours and almost a mastered KotR...

Man, I could go on and on for hours about this, especially for characters like Yuffie. I felt the same about Lymle and Meracle from Star Ocean 4, though that's outside of FF obviously.

Also having to catch Rinoa in space about 3 times.Don't personally remember having trouble with this. Then again, I've never bothered to pick it up since beating it (partially attributed to having lost the game disc).

Did a lot of people really have that much trouble with Yunalesca?

Anything that starts with Dark and doesn't end with Flan in FFX is a mood killer.
it was also mood killing when yuna had just gotten valefor and she was summoning him outside the temple and everyone was praising her, then I try to go up to her afterwards and all I get is an old lady with a voice of a goat saying "stay away from the summoner"

That Rinoa in space bit did my head in. I was annoyed by the implications as well
Rinoa was lost in space forever, game over,
"Goddammit so Rinoa is gone and suddenly its the end of the world for Squall, like life doesn't go on? I just can't go back to the space ship and deal with my greif, no I have no choice in the matter but to save her, pfft."

Auron's quote was awesome but then...it just started to annoy me after a while.
I agree with most people; getting KO'ed after I'm totally immersed in the game makes me get annoyed and then I have to go find something else to do. :/

The ending of FFX:
"The love of my life was a dream who vanished, my heart is broken but I must carry on and lead the new world".
Wow, a sad ending in Final Fantasy? The lovebirds DON'T live happily ever after? Geez, this is a turning point in the series. I actually like it. Very poignant and mature.
2 years later: FFX-2. Yuna saves Tidus by running around half-dressed doing random crap.
Mood killer.
