I've seen some usernames here on EoFF, and I've been curious as to how the were thought up!

Tell us the story behind your handle! :D

Mine? Well, it should be fairly obvious. I like Lady Gaga, and I like anagrams, and I like Bromances! So Bad Romance becomes Rad Bromance. :greenie:

X was the first FF I ever played and I liked what Guardians represented. That and Guardians of the Flame was my favorite book series at the time. XIII came from a fascination with roman numerals, brought on from playing FF, and 13 being my favorite number.

I was 13, and put some letters together. One of them was an X. And yes, Vs are neato, Vermachtnis.

I've said this before, but I happen to share the user name with a not-so-prevalent furry artist. He likes wolves.

Nuklear Power » Archive » Episode 181: Monsters Are Weird Lookin’ (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2002/08/06/episode-181-monsters-are-weird-lookin/)

A friend and I in college used to find this particular bit of onomatopoeia quite humorous and say it here and there. Eventually I stole it and basically use it everywhere. I used to use different names, but this one finally ended up perfect. You wanna find me on Steam, XBox Live, PSN, in an MMO, any forum, etc.... this is the name to look for. Occasionally it's too long and I can just use Yearg, but I've yet to have found this name taken or had to add numbers to it.

NOTE: Those with a good memory may recall when I had the matching avatar.

Raistlin is a character from the DragonLance fantasy series, and one of my favorite fictional characters ever. I was trying to think up a screen name for another message board over 10 years ago and I had just finished reading a DL book, so the name "Raistlin" just happened to come to mind. It just stuck.

02-24-2010, 06:38 AM
Years ago, I changed my name to Hsu from Zell 007.
Agent Proto PMed me saying he would start calling me Shoe, like Dan 'Shoe' Hsu of EGM, and it stuck in my head.
In early high school, my friends and I messed around with each other's names constantly, coming up with interesting derivatives.
I'm not sure if "Franz Shoebert" or "Shoeberto Ramirez" came first, but regardless, Shoeberto has been my handle almost everywhere since about 2004. I only just recently had it changed here. I like it because it's very rare for it to ever be taken anywhere.

Wanted Vivi on another forum but it was taken. In a flash of inspiration I decided to slap a number after it. 22 was easy to remember. Now I've just been using it so long that it's kind of stuck now and I use it everywhere. Though I did recently change my name on Steam and dropped the 22 (pretty sure my Steam ID is still Vivi22 though).

Wanted to try something a little more original and it just popped into my head. But apparently it's not quite as original as I'd've liked - there are still plenty of places with Jiros. Also there are quite a few relatively famous people with Jiro as either their first or surname.

Mo-Nercy
02-24-2010, 01:18 PM
With my classic handle of Al Bhed³ way back in 2002, I blew everyone's mind. My ³ was pretty much 8 years ahead of Avatar.

I can't remember now where Mo-Nercy came from, but when I changed the name the first time, I kept the ³ (Mo-Nercy³). I remember someone said it was stupid (think it was Del :() so I ditched the ³.

Since then Mo-Nercy and derivatives of it have become my nick/handle/login for just about everything.

02-24-2010, 06:45 PM
This thread has some cute stories ^_~

When I first got into harry potter, I had a character named Rubella Lagreglo Lapiz. (I was 11 :D). When I RPed, I just went by Ruby Lapiz, but I gave everyone nicknames that ended in "-ah", so eventually someone did the obvious and gave me one. rubah is never capitalized because that diminishes its cuteness. Rubah Lapah can be capitalized, because it's a throwback to Ruby Lapiz (which explains my old IRC nick and aim sn)

and yes, i know about the red pencil :(

Well, Quin was the eventually decided name after the Del Murder situation. I was going for my....fourth (?) name change, from Harle-Quin to what I wanted to be Flambard D'Quinceteth - a private joke. However, Del and Leeza couldn't pronounce this, so refused the change. Del and I had a little fight, which resulted in my creation of an e-petition! It worked, and Del agreed to change my name. However, by this point, I couldn't be arsed with D'Quin, so just went with "Quin", the common denominator in all my names.

Harle-Quin was simply a pun using the name Quin. It has no meaning other than that. I suppose you could put in some mention of my being something of a clown, though the connection was unintentional. Before Harle-Quin was the originator of the pun phase: Quin 'n' Tonic. No reason other than "heh. Quin rhymes with gin". My original name in coming here was Pure Quin14.

Pure Quin14 was the name of my RuneScape (lol!) account, made in August 2004. It was created after some DICK hacked my previous account "Quintonir" and changed EVERYTHING. I couldn't even recover the password. Son of a bitch! But yeah, I made a new character. Quin, because it's the shortname of Quintonir. Pure, because I was the real Quin but Pure sounded cooler at the time http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6207/coolup.gif. 14, because that was (roughly) my age at the time of creation.

One paragraph my ass. ;)

Quin, a friend -0- mine actually named his daughter Harley Quin. She is a doll.

I was named Bipper by my older sister. She was 1 and a half and my parents let her name me. The name was denied by the hospital and Wisconsin, so I was named after my father, but I have been called bipper by everyone I know ever since.

I always thought the minor bosses were the most interesting ones, because they didn't have to be stressed over like the main villains. 02-27-2010, 12:22 AM
Way way long ago I was Omni Legacy. Then I got bored of the name and changed it Vermachtnis, which is German for Legacy. Plus it has a V and V is the coolest letter.

It is "Vermächtnis" or "Vermaechtnis". "ä" = "ae", "ö" = "oe", "ü" = "ue" in german.

Well..."Sephiroth" is obvious. The name most people know me with is "Cetra", because the Cetra are the opposite of JENOVA in Final Fantasy VII and at the beginning of his villain career Sephiroth thought he would be a descendant of the Cetra because of Doctor Gast's false documents.

Vex was the code name of one of my characters a long time ago.
As years passed, I found the character had developed a personality far different to that of one I had originally wanted him to have, to the point that he didn't even seem like the same character anymore so the name sort of became redundent since my character started going just by his real name when I realised his code name wasn't even being used anymore.

The character originally was a DBZ fan-character with an idealised sense of what I wanted to be, I was only 13. Back then it was the coolest thing I could think of, but nowadays it just sounds ridiculous.

Not wanting to just throw away the name Vex, I combined it with my surname and started using it for myself. I have no need to idealise what I want to be anymore.

If I could put a ³ in my name, you could have umlauts on ALL your vowels, lazy.

But even after studying German for four years, I still had a tough time with umlauts, pronouncing them and remembering when to use them. So good riddance for simplicity. :D

Back in high school I created a story that involved an idealistic society called Concordia that embraced all kinds of clans and races, even monsters. One of the guardians of the city was a robotic centaur with blue armor, hence Blue Golem #57, or BG-57 for short. He eventually acquires more human traits including a proper name, Cobalt Blue.

My original avatar was the summon Golem from FFVI, but I decided that mashing Zero Wing with FF was funnier.

I thought I picked the number fifty seven because I like how it looks and sounds, but now I guess I was thinking of Heinz.

I think Frank Herbert would have a much better case, considering how much Avatar rips off Dune. But in any event, my character was meant to be robotic, not organic.

It's funny though I knew of a writer who read about the Navy's work with oxygenated liquid scuba tanks and wrote in into a story. He lost count of the people that thought he got the idea from the Abyss, even though he wrote it before the movie came out.

"Necronopticous" is a souvenir from the pretense and stupidity of my adolescence.

Just do what I do and start calling yourself "Necrocopter". It sounds like something you'd find on a badass metal album cover or something.

My name is something of an accident. When I first joined the forum I was straight up Maxx Power. That name of course is lifted directly from The Simpsons before it became rubbish, with an added x. The captain bit came about via the regular elections we've had. I led a disastrously inept party called "The Pirate Red Mage party" (I had this running joke about combining the two most awesome things ever; Pirates and Red Mages. No one found it funny in the least and probably got sick of it). Since I was the leader I declared myself Captain and subsequently assigned relevant titles to my "crew". At the time I asked the staff to change the user names of everyone in the party so that it matched their position. Something interesting and different to do for our party, and we had fun with it. After it was all over my name never got changed back, and I liked it so I stuck with it.

Damn I've been on this site far too long.

Despite what most people think, Wolf is not a reference to Wolf's Rain but is my actual nickname from my grandmother which was usually used in a derogatory connotation but I like it. I may as well come clean! When I was a child, we got this big old binder from National Geographic where every month or so, we would get a new little packet of information on an animal, from their habitat, diet, where they are found in the world, et cetera! It was a by-mail updated animal encyclopedia, really, and it was one of my favorite items in all the world up until age of ten when I discovered girls!

Anyways, my favorite animal of all the creatures in the binder was the lynx! I was a runt back then, so a cat small when compared to lions and tigers, identified with me pretty easily, and I felt I resonated with attributes normally associated with the feline! I was and am pretty big into mythology too, where lynxes play a small, but powerful, role! Combining all of this with what I thought a massive intelligence of mine, I felt I was more of a Genius than a genus of lynx!

And while I was typing this up, I found the thing which made me a Lynx: Wildlife Explorer (http://offers.imponline.com/wildlife-explorer/)! Not National Geographic, but I was close!
