This one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_%28wood%29#Knots)

Do you like Knots on wooden surfaces? I think theyre pretty but im not carpenter so maybe they have negative effects in the long run.

Son of a bitch. We're never getting a thread about ropes are we? :(

I don't like 'em, they just look like blemishes.

Knots suck in wood. They might look pretty but they completely ruin the wood if they are in a spot you need to cut through/do something with. Basically, they make giant holes when you touch them with enough force.

They're pretty okay I do not dislike them or like them with a passion

If you’re lucky they might save you having to drill a hole in your neighbor’s fence

This was unexpected. I'm with Rantz on this one though

One time in Tae Kwon Do I had to break a board for a belt test. It had a knot in it that I hit so it came out and hit the master in the face. I still passed the test though :p

Knots are only good if they're going to be looked at and nothing more. I agree with the cutting through them thing, I spent time in a timber yard and also making furniture facings. Basically so long as you can plan out the usage/cuts of the wood according to the knots, then you're good to go. People will pay good money for a nice lookin' cut.
