View Full Version : Superboss That Represents FFIV The Best

When I say superboss, I mean any boss in general that is more difficult to defeat than the Final Boss. So examples would be Kaiser Dragon in FFVI, Enuo, Omega, Shinryu, and their stronger counterparts in FFV, the weapons in FFVII, etc.

So between Zeromus EG (GBA Version), Brachioraidos (GBA Version), Geryon (DS Version), and Proto-Babil (DS Version), which superboss do you think represents FFIV the best?

Geryon

Proto-Babil

For me, it would have to be a close call between Zeromus EG, Geryon, and Proto-Babil since Brachioraidos is just a palette swap of a yellow/green dragon.

Zeromus EG has technically been around the longest between the three, since his sprite was the one that was used for Zeromus in the Easy Version of the Japanese SNES FFIV. Geryon may seem like he was a random addition to the DS Version, but seeing how he was a demon in Dante's Inferno, similar to the other four fiends (Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, Barbarrica, and Rubicant), and the fact that he's superior to all four of them in mythology, it makes sense for him to be included. As for Proto-Babil, he also makes sense seeing how he's the prototype of the Giant of Babil. Though, facing another version of the Giant of Babil is a bit, repetitive, even though you didn't actually fight the first version head on. And to me, it doesn't really make sense that you fight him on the moon.

I guess my vote goes to Geryon since he's the only one that isn't that similar to another enemy. Though at the same time, he might not really represent FFIV all that well because of that same reason.

I'd have to go for Geryon as well.

Not because of the Dante's Inferno thing, because I actually had no idea about that until you mentioned it. =P

Still, I see Geryon as a kind of representation of all the four elemental fiends at once.

So basically, Geryon represents 4 characters/bosses that appears in FF4 (all of which has some importance to the story), but without having to borrow an already used battle-sprite.

Zeromus EG is just a Zeromus copy lacking originality.

Proto-Babil really makes no sense, and is also just a clone.

Brachioraidos... a copy of random enemies with no relevance to the story? No thanks.

Zeromus EG is all kinds of goofy looking.

My vote goes to Zeromus EG, since I think he looks pretty fun, and I never beat the DS version. I got to the moon, my save-data got deleted and never bothered with it again, so I never got to face Geryon or Proto Babil. I don't like Geryon's design, it looks so... thrown together, even if that was the purpose. Proto Babil is just boring. Zeromus EG at least is 100% new design-wise, and has a few points that make him look cool. Even if as a Superboss, he wasn't that hard.

And as for Brachioraidos... No, just no. He hardly counts.

I was going to say that Geryon looked rather underwhelming, myself.

Zeromus EG has a sword and a half-naked chick stuck to his chest. How does he not instant win? :colbert:

I took the picture of Brachioraidos from the Final Fantasy Wiki.

It's not from the original SNES version, but in the GBA and PSP versions of Final Fantasy IV in the Lunar Ruins (the Bonus Dungeon). I think it was also in the Mobile Version as well, but I don't know for sure.

Now that Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection has been released, I guess it's confirmed that Zeromus EG is supposed to be the "canon" superboss of Final Fantasy IV.

Proto Babil. If only he had Within the Giant playing when fighting him...

But... it's from the Lunarian's Moon, built by Zeumus, I believe. The Tower of Babil was to transport it from that moon to the Blue Planet.
