Now that you actually get to choose your whole line-up and leader... who do you choose?

Sazh, Hope and Lightning is mine right now. Considering throwing Vanille in there, but Hope is more powerful. I love this line-up overall. I've not gotten to really develop my other paradigm classes up yet since I just started Chap 10, but it's good since Lightning is the powerhouse, Sazh is the really malleable one, and Hope is a pretty decent healer.

I feel like I should be using Snow because I keep getting this impression that he's a real great character, but I feel like putting him in there is really limiting in the meantime. He'd probably be a good replacement to Lightning once he gets more paradigm classes up to date, though.

About time we had a thread like this!

My favourite team is Lightening, Fang and Hope. Light is a good balance between magic and physical, Fang is good for tank and physical, and then Hope is my ravaging king~

Paradigms (* indicates default):

Relentless Assault (Rav/Com/Rav)*
Delta Attack (Com/Sen/Rav)
Solidarity (Com/Sen/Med)
Combat Clinic (Med/Sen/Med)
Bully (Com/Sab/Syn)
Tireless Charge (Com/Com/Med)

Basically I get through all I need with this. I have the last one there since there are some enemies that magic is useless/near useless against.

Oh, good idea posting the paradigms. I have:

(PARADIGM)______Sazh/Hope/Lightning__________
Hero's Charge - Synergist/Medic/Commando (my start up)
Thaumaturgy - Raveger/Raveger/Medic
Tireless Charge - Comando/Medic/Commando
Supernatural - Synergist/Synergist/Ravager (I love this one)
Diversity - Ravager/Medic/Commando
Tri-disaster - Ravager/Ravager/Ravager

Haven't had much of a chance so far to really get my head around favourites, but my most common teams are...

Lightning/Sahz/Vanille - for the Sahz/Vanille commentary and all-round goodness you get out of it.
Lightning/Snow/Vanille - for sentinel-required battles
Lightning/Hope/Vanille - mmm, magey goodness

So basically Lightning and Vanille are my favourites in the heat of the battle, mostly for Lightning's badass-ness and Vanille being nice to look at, although the (kind of odd sounding) Australian accent making her moans when she casts can get annoying. Sahz/Vanille are just great together, really. I love it when they fight together. As for my favourite Paradigms... well, I use a lot, here are the most common ones for three people, anyway!

Relentless Assault (COM/RAV/RAV) is easily the most commonly used one. Decimates most enemies just by the constant tapping of the X button.
Diversity (COM/RAV/MED) for when I need a quick heal.
Solidarity (COM/SEN/MED) and Combat Clinic (MED/SEN/MED) are the most common ones I use for emergency situations when facing enemies that require a Sentinel.
Tri-disastor (RAV/RAV/RAV) combined with Salvation (MED/MED/MED) provide awesome awesome quick destruction & quick healing. :D
Aggression (COM/COM/RAV) is something I'm using a little more often lately as it's great for keepin' big solo enemies up in the air.

Others tend to only really get used for boss battles, and that's when you have to get a little more tactical, so things such as All For One, Hero's Charge, Bully, Thaumaturgy and Dirty Fighting can come into play.

Right now I have Lightening, Sazh, and Vanille. I'm using Vanille instead of Hope because I want a saboteur, but I'm training Hope in the saboteur ways on the side so he'll replace Vanille soon.

My paradigms are:
Relentless Assault: Rav/Com/Rav
Aggression: Com/Com/Rav
Bully: Com/Syn/Sab
Evened Odds: Med/Syn/Sab
Perpetual Magic: Medic/Rav/Medic <~ When I use this you can bet I'm panicking.
Diversity: Com/Rav/Medic

I like to keep my most-used medic one on the bottom so that when I switch it's a simple matter of flicking the joystick up or down, and they're far apart so I can easily see that it went correctly out of my peripheral vision. I'm picky like that.

I'm using Light, Sazh and Vanille for everything so far. Got pretty much all bases covered with them, and if I really really need a SEN I'll replace Vanille with Snow.

I never actually thought of having two SYN's in the same paradigm setup, seems like it could be a good idea. I'll have to experiment with that. This may involve bringing Hope into the mix though, and god help me if I don't hate the whiny little bastard.

I'm yet one more number in the Lightning/Sazh/Vanille army. Although if I'm ever achin' for a Sentinel I will probably call Snow up.

I use Hope/Lightning/Fang, my Paradigm set up is mostly the same as The Summoner of Leviathan's as well, though instead of Med/Med/Sen I have Med/Med/Com in there. Don't remember what that one is called. xD Anyway, it's a really nice balanced party, it gets me through it and it's fun to play. I was thinking of switching it up, but then I can't pick who to kick out and so I just keep it the same... xD

Lightning, Fang, and Hope. I thought about trying to work Sazh or Vanille in there, but those three are just too badass together. The only thing it's missing to start off is Rav/Rav/Rav.

I don't have my game in front of me, but I think my paradigms are:

Relentless Assault: Rav/Com/Rav
Diversity: Com/Rav/Medic
Aggression: Com/Com/Rav (Launch ftw)
Bully: Com/Syn/Sab
Combat Clinic: Med/Sen/Med
Evened Odds: Med/Syn/Sab

Recently changed my starting paradigm from Bully (COM/SAB/SYN) to Decimation (COM/RAV/SYN) and it has paid off big time. SAB just didn't do enough against regular enemies for it to be worthwhile. As soon as I'm done with putting Haste on all three characters, I look to switch to another paradigm which differs depending on what I'm up against.

Right now I'm using Fang, Lightning, and Snow. I'm in Chapter 11. I really like that Snow has protect/shell (none of my other medics do yet) and I like Fang for tanking/dishing damage. Lightning is a jack of all trades so I'm primarily using her as a caster/healer now.

I do really like Sahz though. I might alternate between these four.

Partway through chapter 10 and I'm trying to use everyone equally. Tell me they start handing out more CP per battle soon so I don't have to grind for hours. Please?

I'm currently using Lightning, Fang, and Vanille. I thought about using Hope, but Vanille's HP is significantly higher than Hope's right now. I mainly switch between Relentless, Ruthless, and Diversity paradigms.

Lightning, Fang, Vanille

Up until the end of chapter 11:
Lightning was exclusively ravager
Fang exclusively commando
Vanille Max medic / working Sab

End of chapter eleven actually forced me to use CP points, maxing out:
Lightning Ravager/Commando/medic = 4/4/3
Fang: Commando/Sentinel/Saboteur = 4/4/3
Vanille: Medic/Saboteur/Ravager = 4/4/3

I built my team entirely on causing staggers as much as possible, leveled Sentinel with Fang purely for strength/hp bonuses - Sentinel was something I never used until nearly the end of chapter 12.

Relentless Assault (rav/com/rav)- Staple
Diversity (rav/com/med)- Staple
Aggression (com,com, rav)- Staple
Med/Sab/Sab - Staple

Last two were rotated in / adjusted as needed.

I'm in chapter 10 now and I'm using

Lightning as leader (which I can't change, I like her in my party but not as leader)
Snow
Vanille

Com/Rav/Rav
Med/Sen/Med
Med/Sen/Sab
Rav/Rav/Rav

that's because I'm on a boss though. I used Fang instead of Snow for a while for easy stagger.

End of chapter eleven actually forced me to use CP points, maxing out:
Wait, are you saying that you didn't use CP points at all until the end of chapter eleven? Isn't that kind of impossible? Or do you mean forced you to use the rest of your CP points?

Siegurd
03-15-2010, 09:21 PM
forced to use the rest of the ones I had. Up until that point I had only spent very few outside of their specialized roles.

Loony BoB
03-15-2010, 09:42 PM
Oh, I haven't spent any outside of their three main roles so far. I started to get Snow towards having cure then realised how expensive it was and decided against it. Maybe after I've maxed out level 4 on all of them...

EDIT: But then I find using them in multiple roles is good. I can't figure out how you could have beat certain bosses using just those roles, though. Well done!

Lightning/Snow/Sazh

I have Sazh trained as a Medic right now, so I can increase my healing while in this group.

Relentless attack (Rav, Com, Rav)
Tri-Disaster (Rav, Com, Rav)
Combat Clinic (Med, Sen, Med)
Strike Team (Com, Syn, Com)
Protection (Med, Syn, Sent)
Cerberus (Com, Com, Com)

If I can, and it the guide made it sound like you could, I'll be switching out Lightning in order to place in Vanille. :p

I use the ladies :)

Typically my paradigms (off the top of my head) are:

Lightning is either a commando or ravager, depending on if I am building the stagger bar.
Fang is commando typically, unless I need her sentinel capabilities.
Vanille is my healer and when possible does supplementary ravaging.

The boys have cooties, so I don't use them. :mad2:

Raistlin

I taught Fang a Ravager ability so I switched out Com/Com/Rav in favor of Rav/Rav/Rav. It really does make a difference for building the stagger bar, which is more important than never letting the enemy touch the ground once the bar is filled (even though the latter is awesome).

Siegurd

I should clarify:

I still haven't spent/wasted (too expensive in the main storyline for results) any CP on their secondary role sets. But up until a point in chapter eleven I had almost exclusively (I think the other roles were hovering around level 2-2 1/2) each character leveled in just one of their three primary roles, then had to level the others for stat boosts. I was able to get that far doing it like that because I spent all my weapon upgrade points on the Blazefire saber for str/mag stats on Lightning and had Fang's initial weapon (I forget the name) up to max as well. Never got around to turning the blazefire into a flamberge until post-story though, I switched out for the Lionheart as soon as I could. I relied (and still do) on quick stagger building and Vanille's powerful healing ability. Open the fight with rav/sab/sab to debuff then to diversity to build and maintain then relentless to destroy the remainder.

Suffice to say, things had a bit of extra difficulty without the extra 1-1.5k+ hp from the other role trees, which is why I ended up needing to level their other primary role's up to an almost even keel with the ones I used the most.

I was always very, very bad at upgrading accessories. Even after I beat the game I still have the majority of my primary accessories at level one. A few are at level 3-5.

I prefer rav/com/rav for stagger building versus rav/rav/rav, but once the enemy is staggered and at 999.99% (easy with army of one) going aggression (com/com/rav) is pretty devastating, unless the mob is immune/still resistant to melee damage. Throw on a deprotect and an imperil and you can hit max damage with Fang fairly early on that way.

I would use Vanille more, but I don't want to hear porn noises every time I use Fire.

I'm surprised at the amount of people that use Fang.

Raistlin

Fang is badass (only slightly less than Lightning).

I would also be using Vanille if she was Syn instead of Sab. I thought about using Vanille and Sazh for a bit (along with Lightning), but now it would be too much effort and gil in using all of their unused CP and upgrading their weapons.

NeoCracker

Fang does, according to the strat guide, gain the games hightest attack rating, so her high damage output probably has something to do with eveyrone using her. ;P

Sab isn't to bad either.

Yeah and the weapon I have her using now levels up quickly, so her attack is much higher than the rest of my team.

I love her for her sentinel capabilities more though. :roll2

Fang is pretty good but I don't find her versatile enough to be what I want. I use Sazh, Lightning, and Hope currently. If I find a fight is tough I switch out Hope for Vanille because her SAB stuff can be pretty delicious.

I start with SYN/MED/SYN so I can get Haste and Protect up, then I change to Diversity (COM/RAV/MED). I have Thaumaturgy (RAV/RAV/MED) and Tri-Disaster (RAVx3) in there as well. Can't remember the other two.

I find it interesting how different people start up. Earlier I had mentioned that certain battles require you to know the exact lineup and exact process before you can win, meaning it was more trial and error, but it's good to see that people are still really varied with how they go about things.

One thing I can't get my head around yet is that people start with a medic, though. I've very, very rarely found myself needing a heal until after a couple of "turns" of hits from the enemy, unless I'm facing a very, very large group (and even then it's rare) or a very, very tough enemy.

Madame Adequate
03-16-2010, 11:27 AM
Dude if I started trying to buff without a medic around whilst fighting a Behemoth King, I would get destroyed before I had half the buffs up. :p

Loony BoB
03-16-2010, 11:35 AM
Oh, fair enough - as I said, only against the hardest enemies do I bother with it. I figured you use it against everyone. I would just change my team to fit the Behemoth King, probably, if I were to take them on again.

Psychotic
03-16-2010, 11:36 AM
Yeah I never start with a Medic unless I've fought that enemy before and it has given me a brutal pasting in the first couple of rounds and killed me.

Trial and error!

When I can choose I'll probably go for Lightning/Fang/Hope or Lightning/Vanille/Sazh. Not sure yet, but I'm only in chapter 8.
