I apologize for my HD noob-ness (all I currently have is a Wii) but I am looking at refurbished Xbox 360s, just to be able to play FFXIII. The Arcade edition is generally about half the price of the other editions (and I truly cannot afford more than that.) Is there any reason FFXIII cannot be played on a 360 Arcade, before I waste my money?
Also, if a standard Arcade edition cannot support the game, is it better to buy a separate hard drive and install it, or would that not be worth my time?
Thanks!
it'll play fine on an arcade edition, just get the hard drive + HD cables if you want it in HD. 8-)
the PS3 version apparently looks much better though. maybe i'll get around to playing it this weekend.

I would need a hard drive for HD? I thought that all I needed was an hdmi cable.
no, but you'll need the hard drive to save your progress for FFXIII. 8-)

The Xbox 360 version is actually only in 576p (480p being standard def), so I would by far reccomend the PS3 version, which is in high definition (720p gameplay and 1080p cutscenes I think). But if a PS3 is not an option, then you'll need a 360 with a Hard Drive so you can save your progress (which you'll be doing plenty of).
Good Luck! :)

Also, if you do go with an XBOX take into consideration when deciding to either use HD cables or HDMI.
Unless you're playing on like a 50 inch TV you won't really tell a difference between HD cables and HDMI.
I say this because HD cables are much cheaper.

Seriously, if you have an option, get the PlayStation 3 version. I mean look at this: http://i39.:bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou::bou:/xen0xw.jpg
That's from Eurogamer's Digital Foundry - a legit comparison site.
If you absolutely can't, I'd understand going with the Xbox 360. Although, then you would be missing out on God of War III, as well. ;-)

I thought you could save your 360 games to a flash drive or something.

The Xbox 360 version is actually only in 576p
Wow! I didn't realize there was that much of a difference! Ack!
I suppose I'll save up for an extra month or two and get a PS3, as it wouldn't be that much more than a 360 and a hard drive. Plus, I would get Blu Ray, DVD upscaling, and a free online gaming service. Oh, and no red circle of death either!
Man! I was hoping to play FFXIII within a couple weeks. Well, cest la vie.
Thanks!

That's from a prerendered cutscene using the same graphics engine as the game, the actual realtime rendered graphics on the 360 aren't that bad. The video just a bit heavily compressed to fit on three DVDs.
And you shouldn't use still images to compare anyway, get a video :p

Since you can play FFXIII on either I would recommend looking at the other system exclusives you are interested in and decide based on that.
Having slightly better graphics for one game is not worth not being able to play another title or two.

I play it on XBox and it looks fine to me. *shrug* I haven't noticed it taking up more than a little hard drive space.

I have a memory card from a 360 arcade and just done a test with my FF. You can save progress on it.
That said, I am not sure I would buy any console without a HD. There is simply to much DLC coming out, you would miss out quite a bit over time.
My gaming is done on a 360 and PC and have just got a second hand PS2 so I can play some earlier FF.
There is no doubt the game looks better on a PS3, but it still looks really great on a 360 - best graphics I have ever seen in a game.

But on just a standard 256 mb arcade, you can save game progress cause it only takes 4 mb to save it. Its what I do. And my roommate has it on the PS3, and there are very few differences actually in the graphics unless you play it on HD.

Huh? I only need 400 kB for each of my FF13 saves on PS3.

So, I probably could get a 360 arcade for now, just to be able to play FFXIII, and buy a hard drive later, to upgrade.
I REALLY want to play FFXIII, sooner rather than later!
Thanks for all the help!
