I finally got it in the post, admittedly I was already late into chapter 11 and all but I've been really impressed all the same. Did anyone else get it? I got the hardcover version. It's the first time I got a guide and man is it gorgeous. Are all of the guides for the FF series this good? Wow.

Can't wait to finish the game so I can read all the extras at the back. =] It'll also hopefully prove useful with site staff related things...

I got the hardcover version, too. It provides some good story-explanations for those who don't really get the motives of certain characters, and the quality is overall quite good. I'm a bit dissapointed in the weapon section, though. They don't really tell you what the ultimate equipment is or how to best get it. And the print on the bestiary is very small.

But overall, great guide, yes. I'd rate it slightly better than my FF III guide.

From what I understand, there is no real 'ultimate' weapon in this game - it does pretty clearly detail which weapon gives the best STR/MAG bonuses, and what other bonuses you get out of other weapons, though.

True, but they give no real pros or cons for using any of the max-upgraded weapons. Stats aren't everything, and aside from saying one type of weapon is extremely slow, there's not much detail in the weapons section. But it's only a minor thing, as all max-upgraded weapons have the same super ability: an extra ATB slot.

I haven't bought an FF guide since the FFIX travesty, though my mom did buy me the FFXII guide which was nice, so maybe I should consider this as well. Though I am a good way through the game already and I'm not sure I care enough to spend the money. So probably not. :p

No idea why they did such a bad job on the FFIX guide, I mean they typed it up on the site anyways, why not put it in the guide, too? Then they deleted it all when FFXI came out, so now getting the info you want is really hard.

I bought this guide (I have every FF one) and I got to say I've never had a better one. This guide details everything to the max, but the only thing it's missing, is a notice on where in the game we should stop to complete all the sidequests before end game. I'm not a fan of the "kill the last boss and the other SQs open up" thing. I like to have a final game save after all side quests are complete and I'm super buffed before the last boss. But I guess that's not the guides fault :)

Check the last sentence on page 83. :) It says if you wish to continue with the marks sidequest, go to page 116 (or something like that).

i have one official walkthrough but it's so annoying because it tells me to go to other pages all the time, so I end up going back and forth flipping pages constantly if I want to do everything in an area at a time. i.e. chest locations is in the beginning of the guide and side quests are far back, and secrets are even further back. I'd rather fumble about in the dark
