View Full Version : Task 1 ~ In doing what we ought we deserve no praise - ENDED!

The Staff Forum is where we go to not only discuss the goings on in the forums, but where we go to be away from you "normies." If you want to access it, if you want to become one of those charged with the task of keeping buttholes like Moon Rabbits and Bunny (coincidence? damn rodents) from chasing away the cute fluffy members, then... we must like each other.

Your first task is to create a poem, short story, drawing, or video in praise of a current staff member. Post it in either the Artist's Forum or Writer's Corner, as appropriate.

You have 24 hours to complete this task. Anyone who hasn't completed this task by the time I wake up from my hangover tomorrow will be eliminated.

At the end of the 24 hours the staff will vote in private, and the three we like the least will be eliminated.

Go.

So I'm inexperienced with this whole poem thing, but I wanted to try it, so I spent most of last night working on this. I have known Amanda for something like 9 years, and we have had... well, an interesting relationship. I wanted to try to capture in words the depth of my feelings, but that is difficult to do. I first contemplated an epic sonnet, but that was too limiting. And so here is the final product. If you can, try to grasp all of the layers of meaning, though some of it will be easily missed without context. I would appreciate any feedback, because this is my first attempt at a poem of this kind.

I just want to clarify on why Breine was eliminated because I feel it needs addressing.

There are certain members who just aren't going to win, even if they are really popular and qualified. We need 100% staff approval to choose a winner and sometimes there's just that one holdout, be it a personal grudge or they just don't see it as the right fit. Breine wasn't going to win for these reasons so we felt it wouldn't be fair to string him along. Sorry Breine!

If another popular member had some strong opposition within the staff we'd cut them too. I for one would be pissed if I just spent days jumping through hoops for the staff (which is mostly what this year's contest has been) only to find out later that I never had a shot at all. We didn't want to waste Breine's time or our time arguing about it.

I don't know why you automatically assume you were/are being strung along. Maybe you have a legit chance of actually winning this thing. :roll2

Yeah, really legit. And if Breine's case is apparently not even open for debate, why would anyone else's be otherwise, if they were discussed before -- like I was last year when I had exactly ONE supporter, from what I heard.

And, more importantly, why is anyone's case beyond debate? Isn't that what the whole competition is for in the first place?

I for one would be pissed if I just spent days jumping through hoops for the staff (which is mostly what this year's contest has been) only to find out later that I never had a shot at all. We didn't want to waste Breine's time or our time arguing about it.

Do you even read what you type?

Because they like Breine.

I can't see any other simple answer.

I think the explanation sounds worse than just sticking it to the guy blindly!

I agree completely.

I don't think that's accurate.

Really? From what I heard, there wasn't even a real discussion.

The more I think about this, the more it boggles my mind. I originally chalked the completely random eliminations up to Shlup not having any idea what she was doing, which just made me wish Del was doing it again. But Del's posts are worst of all, where he states the staff summarily dismissed viable candidates beforehand, and can tell them to not even bother (and publicly admitting it!)... well, unless that person is someone the staff might actually like to string along. It's like you guys aren't even bothering to look like you give a damn anymore.

About the same as the chances of us deleting your warnings thread.

This gives me an idea for a thread though.

You're focusing too much on one minor thing and missing the point of this competition. It's about having fun and finding the next CK. Sure, some people are only there for the former, and some only for the latter, but does it really matter who's who? In the end we get what we wanted: amusement and a qualified new member.

Let's stop derailing this competition to nit pick trivialities. That's the last thing this year's event needs. :p

Says the person who has nitpicked this year's entire competition on a daily basis. :p

I don't consider completely dismissing a viable candidate beforehand to be a "triviality," which is a point neither of you actually bothered to address. Not only was I surprised the staff did that, but publicly admitting it shows a level of dismissal or cognitive dissonance that is... well, shocking.

If the whole contest is a waste and you've already chosen your favorite(s) (which is a conclusion I would have dismissed before your statement on Breine), then at least have the integrity to admit it rather than wasting a lot of people's time "jumping through hoops" and "stringing them along," which is something you said the staff should avoid.

If you find someone being eliminated from an internet game "shocking," Raist, you just plain need to go out and get laid. Maybe smoke a bowl. Anything.

Yeah you're reading way too much into this. So what if we chose the winner or the finalists beforehand? I'm not admitting that we did, but what difference overall would it make?

Let's just let this go and enjoy the rest of what Amanda has in store. Learn to pick your battles, man.

If you find someone being eliminated from an internet game "shocking,"

I agree that would be weird; your imaginary friend who you heard say that is very wrong. Maybe you should have a word with him since you certainly don't seem to be paying attention to my actual statements. I've been referring to Del's own words which clearly state that Breine was eliminated due to a previously-reached conclusion by the staff and unwillingness to force certain (apparently staff-liked) members to "jump through hoops," whereas everyone else who the staff may have already reached a consensus on is still allowed, even encouraged, to do so. It's also curious why Breine this year is so much different from me last year.

So what if we chose the winner or the finalists beforehand? I'm not admitting that we did, but what difference overall would it make?

None. Misrepresenting otherwise to encourage a pointless competition does, though.

I don't know why you guys are leading Raist to believe he had more than one person on staff in support of him someday becoming a Cid's Knight again. I mean, you know, like his head isn't big enough. Keep inflating that ego and someday it'll be almost as big as mine.

Correct me if I'm wrong Del (or any admin for that matter) but I took what you said as-
The admins have made decisions on who wouldn't fit as a CK, but haven't necassarily decided the outcome to the end. I would assume you have certain choices (meaning more than one person) in mind rather than one person in particular. I could be wrong though. :greenie:

Either way, I'm here because I would love to be a CK and give back to EoFF and for the fun of the competition.

Yeah, we'll go with that.

This really has nothing to do with round 1 anymore and I don't want this competition degrading into an argument over who was eliminated and when.
