Do you steal your internets?

I'm at my parents' place right now for spring break, and they have no internets at home! Nor do they have AC or Heating. It's like 1920 in here~! This leaves me with my cell phone's web browser which usually gets me through the day, though slowly, or leeching off the one remaining unprotected wifi connection in the area, which is somewhere far off in the north direction.

So right now, I'm sitting out on the back deck of my hillside home with a gorgeous view of the California's Inland Empire. Only problem is that it's friggin' cold and my fingers are frozen and it's hard to type now! >:O I wish the neighbor I'm stealing from lived next door so I could at least sit inside! I wish it was still 2007 when no one bothered having secured networks. >:O

I'm leeching right now. It is only from my girlfriend though. She's epically close to an exchange so I get great speeds here. :]

When I must leech, I do without hesitation. Your network security is your responsibility.

I use ARP Replay attacks against my neighbours WEP protected router in order to nab their rather handy WEP Pre-Shared Key.

I've done this for roughly 3 neighbours in my vacinity making it very easy to keep my net connection when one of them go's down.

This exactly. As such, I don't broadcast my SSID, I have wireless MAC filtering on, and use WPA2.

I will have to look into this for when I pirate.

I don't know how to protect mine, not that I care.

I like my internet ridiculously fast, so I pay for it, though I leech when I need to. I've also been known to literally password protect other people's router for my own usage when I was feeling mildly malicious. Another fun trick is to change the name of their network to something like "child porn hub."

I used to do that at my grandmother's house, but then her neighbor moved out :(

I pay for it myself! Although I would leech if I had to. It's more a question of wanting high speed.

Illegal in the UK if the owner doesn't know so I don't do it unless I really need to and at most however long it takes to reply to important emails

^ This. I need my speed. Leeching someone's crappy DSL is a worst case scenario.

I've only successfully done it once :| For some reason, at stu's house on spring break a few years ago, I couldn't download my e-mail or visit various sites, so we went war driving and found a restaurant in town that was unsecured xD

I have absolutely no shame in leeching off someone's connection occasionally. If they never bothered to set up a private/secure connection, that's their problem. Besides, if they're not savvy enough to know how to secure their connection, they're certainly not savvy enough to know when someone is using their connection.

I will leech with no hesitation, though I typically don't have to.

protip:
If you go to the wire in your wall that gives you internet and take off the faceplate you will see a wire. If you pull that wire, and continue pulling it, you will end up with miles of wire in your living room. -There should be no surprise that you will have to open a door and let the internet cords leak out into the yard. The Internet IS big, after all.

After hours of pulling and tugging, hand over hand, the wire will stop, and you will feel my fleshy man love. You will find that I am the internet, and I thank you.

Bootstrap bipper, you're a liar and you will spend an eternity on this ship. D: :davyjones:

You're all pirates, all of you!

Since you're all so knowledgeable, when did the trend of old people learning to protect their wifi start? 2007-2008? I remember no one around here had WEP keys before~! Life was so easy!
