‘Persona 5′ Confirmed And Going Into Production » MTV Multiplayer (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/03/24/persona-5-confirmed-and-going-into-production/)

No console confirmed yet, though I would be surprised if they still stuck with the PS2.

After P3 and 4, I wonder if they will still stick with the P3 style of social links/dungeon crawling, or will they mix in some classic SMT/Persona 1 and 2 exploration to keep it fresh? To be honest, I'd be kind of disappointed if it just ends up another Persona 3 or 4.

Sigh, I want SMT4.

I don't know, I still feel the P3/P4 formula still has a lot of elements that can be expanded upon. So I don't mind returning to it, though a few elements from the old days wouldn't be too bad either. I'd love to be able to eat at places and get stat bonuses again. :D

Overall, I'm excited for the news. Wonder if it will be another decade before SMT4 but their is also Strange Journey on the DS.

3 was a refreshing change for me while 4 was just a plain old mess that I utterly despised. Yet I am still curious about what they'll come up with this time.

I hope it surprises me like P4 did. I wasn't expecting to like P4 more than P3! I think Persona 4 is my favorite game now :3

There's Strange Journey, it's a lot like the first two Shin Megami Tensei games. The only thing really separating it is it takes place in Antartica instead of Tokyo.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what they do with it.

And all I'm hoping for is to re-include the 3 different types of physical attacks like in 3, and removed in 4. :(

Ugh Laddy why you have to use the same avatar as me? At least i have a matching sig to go with it.

This is making me feel even worse about my PS2 dying while I was in the middle of my first play through with P3. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this new sequel and that right there infuriates me.

I cannot agree more. Really, I hope they bring back some of the elements removed form P3 such as the multiple types of physical abilites and less obnoxious money system (P4 is proof that a loot system doesn't always work out). Keep the guard ability and the characters special follow up moves from from P4 :D

I wouldn't also mind them bringing back the fusion spells from P2 since they may not go the AI route anymore. That was probably the main reason why they changed it in P3 and eventually removed in P4.

seconde'd. I LOVED P4 but I'm biased 'cause I haven't played Persona 1 or 2 yet. I wonder if they'll put in a female MC like they did in Persona 3 Portable?

Yes, please! It's harder to make the MC an avatar of myself when he's male. Also I don't want to feel like a lesbian when I do romantic social links ;_;

Oh, I plan to, believe me. I actually still need to play through DDS2, as well. It's just I have this fancy shmancy new PS3 and I'm pretty enamored by it at the moment. Once the sparkle wears off I'll probably try to track down P3 or 4 on Craigslist.

Since P5 has been confirmed, what are some of the gaming features you hope it possesses or gets rid of?

NeoCracker

1) Add back in the 3 separate attack types.
2) Keep the varying effects of Physical attack types P4 added to certain attacks.
3) Exapand on how P4's Social Link system could alter later scenarios depending on certain ways you answered questions before.
4) More character unique abilities. P3 had Aegis's Orgia mode, and 4 had Chie's Galactic Bunt, but I think those are the only two so far.
5) More Fusion attacks, and make them worth using. I never found a use for them after the beginning of P3.

Thats all I got right now. :p

I hope they keep the ability to control all the characters. The AI in 3 loves to do the stupidest things sometimes and it makes me sad. :|

Please god yes. I just got back to playing my recent playthrough of P3 some more and christ are the AI characters stupid. Fighting one boss (royal beetles I think they were called) I set Akihiko to focus on knocking them down since they were weak against electricity. So of course he decided to use a striking ability every turn instead of Zio which would actually do what I told him. And of course, as soon as I said screw it and set him to act freely, he'd use Zio then hit the downed beetle with it again just because he likes being useless. :roll2

It's weird! They only did slightly stupid things the first time I played P3, but on my second playthrough they would only take the dumbest action allowed by the tactics!

Really I just hope they keep all of those minor improvements and add more! The expanded social links, social links with the entire party, being able to press square to see what Persona abilities do before fusing, being able to control what abilities the rest of the party's personae learn, pressing square to move around the city. Little things like that really made Persona 4 shine :</>D!

Did you scan the enemy first? The AI won't know if there's an element they can use to knock the enemy down if the enemy isn't scanned; even if no information appears when you scan the enemy. But if you already scanned them and they're still doing that, that's just weird.

I personally didn't mind the AI system; once you know how it works at it's not too bad. Still prefer actually being able to control my party members though.

I didn't scan them, but only because I was on my second try and knew what they were weak against. I didn't realize the AI needed me to scan enemies to use their weakness even if nothing shows up on the scan. I would have figured me using their weakness every turn would be enough. It's good to know how it works now I guess, but that's just bad game design, and something that's easily fixed by letting me control my characters.

I'd like it if Hero McProtagonist talks. The guy from 4 was called the chattiest silent protagonist, so why go the extra step and have the next guy actually say stuff. And have a dynamic personality based on the choices you make during the course of the game.

I noticed this when my party members seemed to immediately know what elements to use and what not to use while I was still trying to figure it out. Like wtf who decided to leave me out of the loop like that?

Instead of making a new thread I'm just going to use the power of necromancy and bring this thread back from the grave. Get your shotguns ready kiddies ;)

Anyway... the Persona team is hinting (http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/persona-5-lead-has-an-%E2%80%9Cintroverted-personality%E2%80%9D/) at what the main character from P5 is going to be like.

Persona director Katsura Hasino revealed to Degenki PlayStation that a new Persona was in development. According to the interview, the team had originally wanted to make the main character’s personality more optimistic in comparison to previous games, however due to the story’s development, they’ve gone with the introverted personality. He’ll have a hair covering one of his eyes and will be slightly slouched due to this.

Aegis, who comes from before Persona 3: FES, returns as one of the main character’s closest friends.

If anything, the main character of the new Persona sounds just like that of Persona 3. An exact description, actually.

I'm guessing they are either screwing with the fans for the fun of it or P5 might be really interesting for Persona 3 fans...

Given how little personality the main character is given in these games due to the social link system, I don't see to much of an issue with making him so similar to P3's.

Aegis may or may not be a good Idea. I don't really think it should be a connected story at all, given the ending of P3: FES, but if they do a whole 'Mai-Otome' and make it An alternate Aegis, so to speak, it could turn out well.

But then again, I love me some Aegis.
