This is very likely extremely old news, but I found this cheat methodology on a site called something like NeoSeeker.
Norune Village Gaffer's Store:
Step 1. Ask if store is open
Step 2. Line up a blank spot from your items menu with a blank from the Gaffer's.
Step 3. Press "Right Directional" and X at the same time
Step 4. You should have what seems like a broken dagger in your attachments now. It has no name (steals the name of the last attachment you highlight). Better than a synth sphere, it maxes all stats instantly minus MP and magic. It even adds attributes unique to other weapons. The attachment sometimes may become invisible.
This may not always work. If it doesn't, pretty much just try repeatedly.
You should be aware that you can't have more than one in your attachments inventory or the game will freeze. Once you've got one, exit the Gaffer's store and equip it to a weapon before getting another one. Also do not attach more than one to a weapon (it's meaningless anyway because you can't exceed max stats) because the weapon will instantly break. You'll pretty much want to get all of your weapons' abs filled before going after this cheat, so you can instantly attach the "broken dagger" to your weapons and then quickly upgrade. This is perhaps the easiest shortcut to Build-Up for any weapon.
CORRECTION: The game is iffy with the "broken dagger" cheat. The game may or may not freeze even as you are transferring the item into your window. The game is also not guaranteed to freeze simply by storing more than one in your attachments window. Weapons don't seem to break when equipped (and upgraded) with two or more "broken daggers" (even while using said weapon) though as previously mentioned, it is unnecessary and useless to the point only a mentally defunct would bother doing it.
