What do you fight? I mean, I know there's the Adamantoise what with Vanille doing Death but it can take some time before you get much success, even when using equipment to encourage drops. I think there should be a more accessable final weapon upgrade item. :( It's taking me forever just to get one of these suckers, let alone the amount of gil I'll need to upgrade a final weapon to maximum. I imagine once I get 2-3 done (probably by doing Fang's weapon with my first Tezawhatever and then dismantling it for three), Adamantoise might be much easier, but at the moment I've already maxed out four roles for each of the characters and I'm still not getting money in much faster.
I'm thinking I might go and fight those white Cie'th (I can't remember the name off the top of my head) in Eden for some time instead as their drops come a bit easier and I'm not relying on luck like I am with the Death spell.

What you need to do is fully upgrade a kains lance made from a dragons lance gae Bolg or pandoran spear then dismantle it and you will make 3 trap mats and 36 moonblossom seeds worth 216k

He knows that; he first needs to get one, though, which is the issue.
I'm kind of surprised you still need to use the Death ability to take down the Adamantoises with four roles maxed. Have you tried just attacking them (after using a summon still)?

Yeah, but I found it takes longer than using Death. xD It tends to get back up before I can finish it off, so I have to then go into super-careful mode whilst at the same time slowly, slowly hacking away at it's legs so it goes down again.

I have 2 roles maxed per character and I just took down 3 in a row (I had to break to recover TP, of course) without using Death (which is good because I don't want to spend gil on upgrading her weapon). It's pretty close, and the first time he had just risen about to kill me, but I managed to do it.
However, in the 5 Adamantoises I've taken out, I've only gotten one Platinum Ingot. :mad2: With how long it takes to kill them, plus regenerate TP afterwards, they are not the most efficient things to fight.

I have two roles maxed per character, and this is what I did: Sold my 3 Platinum Ingots that I won from fixing Vanille's robot in Oerba. Then I upgraded and equipped Fang, Lightning with Power Gloves (STR + 250). I equipped Hope with Weirding Glyphs (MAG + 250). I also upgraded Fang's Taming Pole and one of Hope's weapons to the second level. Then I entered battle.
I start with Fang/Lightning/Hope on SAB/COM/RAV and immediately summon Bahamut. I cast Imperil, Shell, Protect, Slow. Then I kill him as much as I can with the Eidolon (which isn't much). After Bahamut is done, I then use RAV/RAV/RAV to get Adamantoise staggered. Then use COM/COM/RAV to finish him off *just* before he finishes stagger mode and stands up! I have to admit, each time I kill Adamantoise, it's a really close call! At least if the stagger runs out early, and there is a sliver of HP left and he's killed Hope and Lightning, you can keep Fang alive cos she jumps up and attacks. Whenever you see him about to stamp his foot you can push triangle and make her jump up :)
Like Raistlin I have also won only one Platinum Ingots out of about 5 Adamantoises :o

You need one collectors catalog on each person in your active party. Brings it up to 50/50 drop rate, I actually get about 6 or 7 out of 10. It is also worth it to activate the adamantoise mission (mission 62 i think? not sure it's in sullya springs) this will give you a gold nugget, and 3 adamantoises in a very small radius. Generally I kill one with summon, the second the hard way, and by the time i fight the 3rd I have another summon. This will near garuntee you a gold nugget (60,000?) and an ingot (150,000). It is well worth the trip back and forth, I garuntee it.
As for the 4 classes mastered still taking awhile to kill them, if you incap them and have 3 sab's casting status ailments, he usually dies before he stands back up, but should he manage, you should have no problem with sen-sab-med paradigm. It really is the fastest way to grind for gil
!IMPORTANT!
I've had 9 coiniseurs catalogs on my characters and killed 20? and got about 2 ingots and no traps
With 3 collectors catalogs I get better than 6 ingots /10 battles and ohh yeah I also got a trap with no coiniseurs on
(sorry for the spelling, meh)

The Collectors Catalogs stack? Well, that's good to know. I only have two though (I converted the 3rd to a rare item catalog). Maybe I'll buy another.
And actually I have been doing it the mission 63 way just for the gold nugget. My last time I got a Platinum Ingot as well, making it a 210k trip. I don't think my party is quite up to beating one "the hard way" yet, though... maybe Vanille/Snow/Hope with Vanille spamming Death, which is how I beat Neochu to get the Growth Egg. I think I'll give that a try next time.

Just Saboteurs can kill one?

It seems that the status ailments have an effect on success rate of death, your party leader must still be vanille with beladonna wand spamming death till she's propery annoyed the hell out of you with "alright, here it comes"
It's expensive to buy an additional collectors catalog but if you plan on farming more than 5 adamantoises It will pay for itself

I remember reading somewhere in the guide that two of the same catalogs don't stack. You should equip one of each, not the same ones. Not sure if this means for each person or the entire party though!

I guess I'll just stick with using Death, as it sounds like you guys rely on the summon as well (which is the main reason I find myself annoyed, because it means I have to spend time working the TP up again instead of just jumping to the next Adamantoise). That's my main gripe - you can't just keep killing them, you have to get TP up to do it in decent time.
And the catalogs do stack, but each one makes it less and less valuable. In other words, if one catalog was to increase chances of getting an item by 25%, then having four of them won't make every item 100%. I think they mentioned that 2-3 is basically all you should bother with as anything else will only increase your chances by a minimal amount. Never mind, they don't stack at all, turns out I was reading about something else!

Platinum Ingots, Gold Dust, Incentive Chips and Credit Chips are my main source of income.
I tend to circle round the Leviathan Plaza killing soldiers and the adamantoise for CP and Gil... It gets boring after a while, though. You get your TP back really quick from the soldiers, then just go through the gate to respawn the Adamantoise.
As you get stronger, the odds of Death working increase (I think).

I recommend fighting the Adamantoise at Eden Hall. You can get your TP back really quickly by fighting some of the soldiers and Behemoths there. Plus, if you have the Growth Egg equipped, you can get 200,000 CP in a matter of minutes!

So my Vanille/Snow/Hope (Sab/Sen/Med) trick works great, and I can kill the damn things without a summon now so no recharging TP. And even better, my third Adamantortoise dropped a Trap! I have like 2 mil, too, so now I'm looking up which weapon to dismantle.

dragoon lance!!! is by far the most awesome and with it you will be able to kill them much quicklyer (yeah making up my own words) with fang, trust me this tip is golden
FYI i just started killing them without death spam
(come to think of it, i think i've eaten a can of deathspam... hmm)
sorry for getting sidetracked, with fang's dragoon lance you don't even need to start with a summon
Golden I tell you, golden@
Edit: ohh yah, it dismantles into 3 traps when your ready ;)

I prefer the Taming Pole for Fang because I use her as a Saboteur as well, so the increased Magic stat helps a lot (and has only marginally less Strength than the Dragoon Lance).
Even though my main party as been Lighting/Hope/Fang, I think I might upgrade Vanille's Belladonna Wand because she is the best way to beat Adamantoises without a summon. Then I can still upgrade Fang and one other until I get another Trap.

I do you her as a sab alot as well, haven't really noticed any problem with that, actually i prefer it because it has no stagger lock, this fact comes in very handy as sab also does a decent job of staggering those tuff enemies as your 3 sabs are nailing away at enemy pluses and making those very nice minuses
suit yourself, I can see the benefits of both :D
ooo big warning. I assume most people farm adamantoises in the same spot i do (mission 63's mark). I just beat mission 64, and you know how there are 3 adamantoises at 63's general area just standing around? NOT ANYMORE. the other 2 become long gui.... and they my friend are still a bitch to kill, so I suggest you farm till your content before taking on mission 64... this will slow you down significantly in your collection of ingots

I've been switching mostly to the Adamantortoise (is there a significant difference?) on the path by Mission 63's spot, closer to the save point. I've been managing to kill it without a summon, though still using Vanille's Death ability. It takes a little while, because for some reason debuffs don't seem to stick when it's standing (do debuffs on the legs affect Death on the body?), but it's still a lot quicker than trying to regain TP and using a summon every time.

I have been farming the Adamantoise at Eden Hall. So far, out of about 40 - 50 kills, I have received about 3 Traps and 8 Platinum Ingots so not too bad! Plus, the 3 battles I fight to restore my TP give me Credit and Incentive Chip spoils which I can sell. I recommend this location to everyone to get money and resources to upgrade weapons ;)

04-03-2010, 09:09 AM
3x Traps!? Bloody hell. I must have killed something like 40-50 myself and I've not got a single one. ...and I use the accessory which increases the odds of getting them. ...two of them, actually. :( No traps. Lots of Cactuar Dolls when I was killing them a while back, but no Traps. :S
I kill Adamenchilde rather than soldiers to up my TP, as I tend to get Gold Dust out of every one of them and they take less than a minute (I'm guessing) to kill.
I think I'm going to change my party around and see how I can improve. I don't think Sahz is bringing enough to the table anymore, although if he gets Slow (which he's about to) then at least I can use him as SAB as well as SYN... hmm. I suppose I could use Hope/Fang/Vanille. I think I've fully upgraded their weapons...

After about 20 battles, I didn't get a single Trap :( After reading some of the posts on here, I decided to equip two Collectors Catalogs and also the Connoisseur Catalog. As soon as I did, I almost got something for every battle! Maybe I was on a roll, I don't know! However, at least once you get one Trap, you can just construct Nirvana for Vanille and dismantle and get 3 more :)
I might try your Adamanchilde TP leveling technique!
Loony BoB
04-03-2010, 05:09 PM
The TP doesn't go up against Adamanchilde amazingly quick, but on the flipside you get pretty good cash and CP out of it.
I use buttloads of item-odds-increasers and still get bugger all. :(

my tale of woes again. (more bitching sorry) So I beat the creature from mission 64 and went back to farm more gold from adamantortoies/toises's along comes a long gui and wipes my party 7 times in a row. Ohh woe is me.
To take revenge I go to kill an adamanchild (I know I'm a sick bastard like that) suddenly little adamanchild uses ultima on me, not only that I go on to lose this fight, as the adamanchild has well over 3 million life.... wtf! GTFO you dumb turtle
Long story short don't kill 64 until your good and ready for the consequences.
(can anyone confirm the new stats on adamanchild for me? or was this a freak accident?)
I use buttloads of item-odds-increasers and still get bugger all. :(
sorry man, I'd try changing party members and unequipping the items, fight a low level battle and change back then re-equip, deffinentally use 3 collectors catalogs though, coness are very very low increases. Trust me I had it on from the point moogleworks opened(ch 6 or 7 i believe)

Long Guis are immune to Death, right? They sound... fun. What are your stats like, so I don't try to take them on too early? Are you at least close to beating them?
This is also the first I've heard about Adamanchelids getting new stats.

what summon is so good?
Raistlin
04-04-2010, 01:34 AM
What do you mean? Are you asking which summon helps for taking on Adamantoises? All of them. The summon takes their legs out from under them, and then you have a couple of minutes until it can rise. It makes it a lot easier, and is the only way to efficiently kill the damn things. I could probably beat one now without using a summon, but it'd take so much longer.

On the contrary if you have fangs ultimate weapon and the genji gloves (which you got from killing 63 I believe) add 2 items that raise fangs attack by 250, the taiming pole final version (or my favorite the upgraded dragoon lance). Here is what you do
Party leader - Fang
Required paradigms
"ONE" syn-med-sen - initial
"TWO" rav-rav-rav
"THREE" com-med-sen (note the commando is fang)
"FOUR" sab-sab-sab or sab-sab-rav
"FIVE" com-rav- (fang initial com)if lightning or snow com, otherwise rav)
"SIX" sen-med-med
PHASE A
Start battle and buff up all your stats with ONE
Switch to "TWO" stagger a leg
Switch to "THREE" Highwind leg
Should be enough to kill it, or come close, if it doesn't kill it then try raising stagger till it's over 300 or attack it a few times before highwind
Repeat initial phase to stagger the other leg. rebuffing as needed
PHASE B after he hits the ground
Shift to "FOUR" stay here till he is "slow/deshell/deprotect/imeril"
Shift back to "TWO" and bring his stagger up to at least 600%
Shift to "FIVE" and beat the crap out of him, saving highwind till he is just about out of stagger
should he live through this it would be a good time to shift to "SIX"
Then back to "ONE" and repeat
Note if fangs stats are around 2800 or higher you can probably kill him in one stagger.
Rastlin - I beat the long gui on try #8 but his "roar" technique does massive damage, sometimes dazing your party and is often followed by "ultima" a most leathal combination I beat him with my party mastered 5 classes and half way done with their final... good luck if you try before that :(. I have to stagger 3 times to kill, and they stay staggered alot longer. The good news is slow sticks to him even when he stands back up, though I'm not sure how long it lasts
to beat a long gui I have a slightly different set up
Rinoabella
04-04-2010, 02:40 AM
I use Fang's Bahamut Eidolon to beat the Adamantoise. I find that because she is my strongest character (around 3600+ Strength), I can make her my party leader and summon Eidolon. I have her ultimate weapon, plus if you add on Power Gloves or Kaiser Knuckles, you can instantly get around a 4000 Strength stat. Now I just need Dark Matter and Genji Gloves...

genji gloves, go to sullya springs and do mission 63 ;) too easy :D, it is faster to beat them with a summon, but is faster to beat them whithout one my way because you don't need to up your TP between battles, and in fact you can summon every 3rd one because you gain tp from killing them my way ;)

I think your method sounds pretty good. I am also 5 roles maxed with one more role to go so I should be able to do that. Just a quick question, how long does the battle last for you? I'm at the point where I prefer to reload if I don't get any spoils, so want the battles to go as fast as possible :)

mmm good question though instead of "ONE" being sen-syn-med start out with syn-syn-sen, and they take me... hmm, sorry mate, I'm not really sure. I went home to my parents house for easter and won't be back there till sunday night.
I'll give you the time then, my guess is a minute per leg and 3 for the main body around 5 mins? 4-7 is best guess.
Edit: The adamanchelids turn into shaolon gui's... not cool square, not cool
Edit2: ooo dark matter, i take it back

I just accidentally brought out the Gui, too. :( I thought they would appear, I didn't think they'd replace them. -_- Urgh. I saved, too. I suppose I could go back to the save from last night and throw away four hours of leveling. =| Noooooooooot happy at all. Dark Matter is little consolation, it's only used for a few (admittedly great) items and sells for less than a Trap does.
EDIT: At least they're still in Eden, although I was gunning to take on some Adamantortoise as they're easier to kill when you're not using summons.

Long Gui's have some way of taking them down but the real thing, well the real perk is upgrading all your crap from power fist> kaisers.
Long's drop traps way faster, too bad I don't need anymore :( but if you still need them with 2 catalogs i got 2 traps in 10 fights?
Try different strategies on both long and shaolongs because there are some easy ways of killing them

No matter how many Platinum Ingots I get, it seems like it's never enough. You can only buy 3 Ultracompact Reactors for each Platinum Ingot. Gil is super hard to farm in this game! It's getting to the point where if I get a Trap, I am disappoint! :( Need more Platinum Ingots!

Same. I ended up going back to my other 6-hour-old save. I found a good place to run around now though - when you have the strength, just take down the Adamantortoise on Pulse without using Death or Summons - save the Summons for the Adamantoise. I'm going...
Save point --> Adamtortoise --> 3x Adamenchilde --> Adamantortoise (with 3 lionthings) --> Adamenchilde (when you exit the area there should be one, after this you should have almost 4 TP) --> the Adamantoise to your left (Summon/Death) --> Take on a few goblins/lionthings/etc. on the way to the Adamantoise at the other end so you have 3 TP --> Adamantoise (Summon/Death) --> Save point, save, go to menu, load, start from the beginning!
This is making me very, very quick money. :D It works great with Vanille/Fang/Hope, with Fang as leader for the Adamantortoises and Vanille as leader for the Adamantoise. With Fang using her maxed out weapon, I can take down an Adamantortoise in three minutes without Summons or Death. Vanille rarely fails with her Death on the Adamantoise, so it's faster to just use her than to take it down through other means. The 4-5 Adamenchilde you'll kill along this route also give you some nifty Gold Dust. After the first Adamantoise I usually have 2.5 TP or so, so just walk towards the other Adamantoise hitting anything along the way, and end up with 3 TP for the next one that way.
My strategies for both...
Adamantortoise: Fang/Vanille/Hope
SAB/SAB/SYN - I like to take a few shots at Deprotect etc. on the legs while Haste gets put on by Hope.
COM/MED/SYN - Until Haste, Protect and Shell are on.
COM/MED/RAV - Continue attacking legs with this.
COM/MED/MED - For about two seconds after each Quake attack.
COM/RAV/RAV - After the next 'stomp' attack following the Quake attack, I switch to this as I know another Quake never comes that soon afterwards, so I can take the time while on full green health to decimate the legs. Whenever the stagger is around 500% and the legs are half-gone (should only take one stagger each with COM/MED/RAV let alone COM/RAV/RAV) you should hit in with Highwind. Bye bye leg.
SAB/SAB/SYN - Once both legs are down, switch to this and get Deprotect, Deshell, Imperil, Slow and sometimes Curse on him. Vanille + Fang working together shouldn't take too long, and it allows Hope to put on some potentially important offensive buffs before switching to...
COM/RAV/RAV - 'til death. Once it's around 940% or more, hit in with Highwind for the finishing move.
Adamantoise: Vanille/Fang/Hope - Well, if you don't know the Death strategy, let me know. It's what I use. :p
Accessories: Vanille has an Earth resistance accessory (currently 40%, although 15% was still working fine before I upgraded) and a magic boosting accessory (+150) alongside the two accessories which help you with items/rare items, Hope has 2x Earth Resistance accessories, a health bonus (a tidy 1,400 or so) accessory and... I forget his other one! :p Fang has a fully leveled Power Glove, the Genji Glove and two items which allow to her have Random: Instant Stagger, which is awesomely useful.
