View Full Version : Payback's a Bitch, or When the Staff Got Theirs

As some of you may know, Monumental Breakdown in Staff Protocol Day is named after a quote of mine as I was arguing heatedly for days on end in the legendary 2005 April Fools prank by the staff, which was targeted largely at me. Well, this year the tables were finally turned. This is a little story about revenge (http://raistlinknight.livejournal.com/130364.html).

I know many of you weren’t fooled by my antics in Feedback leading up to April Fools, but the prank was not targeted at the regular members anyway; you all only saw a tiny portion of the full story. As the above LJ entry (which was locked until April Fools) states, I and a staff member sought to prank the staff. I actually did post porn in a post I like to call “History of Hypocrisy: EoFF Porn Throughout the Ages,” (http://forums.eyesonff.com/2816177-post12.html) with pictures that got people in trouble, one even banned, many years ago (the original post was deleted; I reposted just the text). However, I coordinated the posting with my staff insider, who deleted it immediately.

There was heated debate in the staff forum for days about whether to permaban me or not, and I was drunk tanked for three days as they deliberated. I was not banned, though I probably was going to be had the debate continued. I was still locked out of posting for a few days, but it was a price I was willing to pay for glory. From what I heard, the argument raged rather heatedly in staff, and the balance turned from at first not wanting to ban me at all to most staffers eventually concluding that I was going to be banned for at least some period of time.

A lot of the staff argued for my banning, but I was not worried – and not only because it was just a prank, but because I had a champion. This staffer argued passionately for hours on end for my salvation. She would not let me go without a fight, and a brutal fight it was. She did not have much logic on her side, but she had feelings which a decision to ban me threatened to destroy forever (or two years, whichever came first). When pressed for her true motives for defending me, she had this to say:

I would feel guilty and I would miss him. THERE I SAID IT.

I would miss you too, ShlupQuack. And I am so grateful for the defense that I am putting that quote in my sig. Forever.

The prank was an absolute and hilarious success. My partner and I revealed the truth to staff last night in a Private Feedback thread (my partner’s request -- not my idea), so unfortunately you guys all missed the cussing and tears and threats of violence. For the record, the first words Shlup said in response were “Oh thank god.”

I would also like to give a warm thanks to my staff cohort: the one-and-only Del Murder. He did not just delete the porn post, but also helped set me up with arguments about the CK competition and in my Feedback threads. And at first when it looked like the staff would be too wussy to ban me, he came out arguing hard for a ban to liven the debate, which eventually sparked into an all-out argument that lasted for days. He helped make this prank the glorious success that it was.

This thread is for discussing the staff’s utter humiliation. Feel free to mock them appropriately.

I would like it on the record that I did think you should be banned for a short period of time, I just like to come into negotiations low balling.

And shut up.

ETA: The staff's April Fool's planning thread should be released tomorrow. I'm censoring it now and then it'll be locked away for a few more hours while others double-check it.

Haha. This was an incredibly good prank. Near perfection. Why? Because being that it was around April Fools, it was inevitable that people would think it was a prank for a moment, however said prank thoughts would have slight doubts because, well, people would search for ways it would tie in with the Staff Prank. Inevitably giving it legitimacy, because let's face it, the staff and Raistlin, working together?

Your only one flaw, next time you make a LJ about things, keep it a closer tucked secret. I found out about it. I'm like, on the outer edge of the rumor mill, which means it had to have gone through at least 5 other people first. Surprise thread ruined. :( Other than that, I applaud near perfection. *slow clap*

Oh, it was a tight-locked secret for over a week. Right around one day ago I opened the LJ entry in order to show the staff in a Private Feedback thread. I figured some people might hear about it a little early, but for the most part a 9-day-old LJ entry was not going to be noticed, at least for a while. Perhaps I underestimated how quickly word would spread, though I was originally planning on making the thread earlier today anyway (but delayed so as not to interfere with the Staff's shenanigans).

Yeah I didn't really think a whole lot about making this thread. My whole focus was on the staff (notice how I didn't really bother to do much spreading around info that I may be getting banned), and so the public reveal was always a secondary consideration -- because it was not the public I was trying to trick. Next time I'll keep everything under a tighter wrap. :p

To be fair, Raist and this is the gods honest truth and Psy knows it because he was chatting with me during my post of the wall of text. We both knew that you were up to something, experience of seeing you in action means we weren't sure what but we knew something was going on. Therefore I decided to do what I love to do, troll the trolls. I saw you and PuPu going on at it and decided that I'd have some fun with you. Firstly I posted including your names but immediately edited the post so I removed them I figure PuPu saw the post as did Fonzie however the entire post as I am fully aware you understood was a giant trap to get you two to admit you were trolls. You artfully didn't bite on the line there though which was wise. PuPu sorry but you bit hook line and sinker :P

That is damn true, you get my kudos but I thought I'd give you the reason for such an obtuse wall of text, normally I just go in there like a corn thresher.

Raistlin
04-02-2010, 06:26 PM
Iceglow/gnaw: My entire strategy for realism was just to pretend everything was deadly serious. It was a lot of effort at times. However, not to take away from your ingenuity, but before the porn post I'm sure a majority of the Feedback readers, including staff, thought I was just screwing around. I'm pretty sure most of the staff were "on to" me at that point. But that did not harm my plan at all, because that was only the setup to the prank, as Psy eloquently states:

I didn't know he was going to post sodding porn though tbf to the man.

Haha, yes, that was the entire point of the porn post: no one would have been expecting it, and even those certain I had been pranking before would be thrown for a loop, and would be forced to take it seriously. The prank didn't really give the staff any choice.

Del originally suggested I just post a random porn picture, but that was not artful enough for me (and just way too unrealistic). If I was going to do it, I was going to do it right. So I tried to be as realistic as I could given that everything I did was obnoxiously ridiculous to begin with.

PuPu sorry but you bit hook line and sinker :P

I'm not exactly sure what you proved by making a wall of text, but if it helps your ego to say that you trolled me, go ahead. Your wall of text didn't really do anything except get me to respond with a few lines of "lol no"

Protip: 99% of the time, self-admitted trolling are attempts to save face.

He didn't let you in on it?? Ahahaha

I like seeing Shlup's human side.
WTF is that supposed to mean??

I don't get it.

Aside from the Shlup admission, that I get, and I do adore it.

The Planning thread is entertaining as always. Best parts:

After reading all of these posts about people trying so hard and stuff, I now realize that these people are going to kill me. Why did you guys let me do this?!

At this point we can basically blame Raistlin for everything. smurfing harpie.

You're free to do your little grandstanding or whatever it is you and Amanda like to do to keep the spice in the relationship, but when a moderator closes your thread, it's for a reason and you don't reopen it. I left it open for now for her to do what she wants of you, but if you try that crap again we will strip away your Former Staff title and force you to watch a topless BoB do a belly dance.

They're onto us so now we act like 'tards as planned imho.

I say "they", Raistlin sure as smurf isn't. He is such a dumbass xD He's so convinced he has drama to get his teeth stuck into that he doesn't see what is going on around him.

Unless he realises and is playing along and in which case fair play. Although maybe he has some plot of his own in mind. DON'T. TRUST. ANYONE.

Oh my God.

Maybe he's not April Fooling. That was a bold move right there.

When you make these kind of AF jokes, you have to understand from the beginning (and accept) that people will inevitably end up pissed off. You also have to understand that Raistlin will always be involved.

The LJ entry Raistlin made about this is also pretty funny as all his oldbie friends are just like "What the fuck was that. :colbert:" at him and I know he cares more about what they think than what any of us think. D'aww.

Nah those two can be annoying whenever EoFF is mentioned, though I will say that Doomy had some of the best final threads in EoFF banned member history. Very informative, too!

Though you're right that I don't care what you think. :colbert: <- first time I've ever used that

Shlup told me after she censored everything that she gave it a few hours for other staffers to censor what they wanted. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them decided to censor random things just to confuse people (I'm looking at you, Psy).

It would be funny if for a page he censored the word "the"

Shlup
04-04-2010, 09:21 AM
I censored the perfect amount, and then a few more people went a little batty.

I did do the censoring around the thing from the 1960s though. Some of our conversations, like that one, were entirely off topic.

Tavrobel

I suspect I know what the censorship from around Valentine's Day was all about. You guys were hitting on each other pointlessly. Much too off topic for a prank-planning thread.

Del Murder
04-04-2010, 07:28 PM
It was never about revenge for me, I just wanted to prank the staff. In 2005 we pranked the members pretty good; they deserved a turn too. Being a thorn in the staff's side for many years, Raistlin was obviously the best tool for the job. He also deserved some revenge after being targeted so vehemently in 2005. He played his part brilliantly, a performance worthy of rivaling Big D's in 2005. Like I said before, when you do something like this, he almost always needs to be involved, on one side or the other.

It was all in good fun and nobody got hurt. Happy April Fools everyone!

I'm pretty sure I know what was discussed with that, and it makes it funnier to read realizing how everyone is reading it without any context and is totally wtfin'.

It's a very temporary ban. From what I remember, it originated when HOOTERS would get drunk and make a zillion threads on EoFF (hence the name). More often nowadays, it's been used to keep very worked up people from doing something stupid. Apparently it's also used as a sort of limbo while the staff decides whether to ban someone or not.

Unfortunately the drunk tank usergroup does not have its own title, which is a problem that demands immediate rectification. The usergroup should also be forced to have an avatar of some wasted guy.

I fully support this. If TAP wins the election, I will push for this to be implemented.

Fine, it was first publicly used and thus part of staff policy because of HOOTERS. It's always about HOOTERS, to some degree.

At least he doesn't capitalize the S in staff.

Raistlin
04-06-2010, 05:26 PM
Why would anyone do that? Unless they're talking about the specific forum, in which case it would be capitalized (like "General Chat" or "Lounge").

Oh, I know. I was being facetious based on my boring stint there.

I was taking a stab at Loony BoB who does capitalize the S in the word staff, but now that I ran a search on him it seems he's quit doing it. I.. I don't know what to say :( end of an era.

The drunk tank did used to have a title but we took it away so it wouldn't encourage people :p

Raistlin

I doubt it would really encourage anyone. Though seeing that title on someone might well spark a thousand questions from curious members just about someone who is drunktanked for a night, so in that sense I understand the lack of a usergroup title.

I still do it sometimes! I'm sure I do. Probably in chat and stuff. I capitalise a fair few things, mind you. I am, after all, a capitalist.
