...is roughly the title of a 3000 word essay i'm writing to accompany my sketchbook.

I'm basically looking at how women have been portrayed in art throughout time, narrowing it down to three specific stereotypical roles because I only have 3000 words rather than 30,000. The roles i'm looking at are Mother, Object of Desire and Worker/Provider.

I would really really appreciate it if anyone could give me links to interesting articles or tell me about particular pieces of art that I might find useful :)
