View Full Version : The end of 8-Bit Theater

It looks like the cast of FFI has finally ended their adventures. I first learned of 8-Bit Theater from this very lounge back in 2001 and have been following it ever since. It kinda makes me sad that something that's been here so long is over. Did anyone else still follow it? What do you think now that it's over?

I love Brian's work. 8-bit is classic, Warbot in accounting is strangly hilarious, and I love his more Recent How I Killed Your Master. Oddly enough, Atomatic Robo, the one that got him the Job writing Marvels upcoming remake of 'The Avengers Vs. The Infinity Gauntlent' for their all ages line, is the one only one of his works I've seen I've disliked. ;p

It is sad 8-bit is over though, Black Mage will be missed.

What?! This isn't one of those fake endings he likes to do, is it? :(

I could see someone not liking Nuklear Age (though I did), but I'm surprised you could like all of his other stuff but not care for Atomic Robo. It's one of the comics I look forward to the most every month when a new volume is out, and miss the most when it's on hiatus.

Warbot is plain genius though. Never has anything so depressing been so utterly hilarious.

It's one those things that I really do think it's something I should like, but just didn't.

Yes, this.

I'm still on Episode 300-400 or so. I'm WAAAAYYY behind. And I'm glad to hear it's finishing. At least I know now that if I ever found the time to try and catch up, I could do it eventually.

Sword-chucks, yo.

I haven't kept up with it regularly for years, but it's sad to see it finished. The end of a comic book era.

Interesting fact: The creator originally got the sprites for his comic from our own Dr Unne's FF1 website. And they're both named Brian. Crazy!

The only stretch I didn't enjoy was the time between the third and fourth orbs, which got boring for me.

Also, R.I.P. Black Belt.

Never really followed it but I've always liked it when I took a look. Good for him for the many years he's provided us with lulz!

EDIT: Oh, that was the last issue? Really? That sucks. :(

Well, now he should do FF2. hurr

Nuklear Power (http://www.nuklearpower.com). In his latest entry he says it's over.

Feels anti-climatic. :/ I hope he does do an epilogue like he mentioned cuz right now it doesn't really feel finished. I dunno, I thought there would be more after that one. :/

That's what I thought, it totally seems like he'd keep going. :(

I don't think he really cares about it anymore. The closer it came to being over the less frequently he made his next comic on time. Compared to the several years where there was a comic nearly every Tues, Thurs, and Sat, or even before when the Sat update was optional, it seems more like he was doing it because he had to finish instead of enjoying it.

8-Bit was my first webcomic and I enjoyed it for quite a few years after the initial release. I lost interest around the three or four year mark and stopped reading it completely. The writing was decent, but I found interest in other [better] webcomics or something.

8-Bit needs to win an internet award for best sprite comic ever made. Hell, maybe even best webcomic in general.

It can't just end so casually!!!

Thats a little stretch, it was good but not that good :)

8-Bit was the first webcomic I ever read, and I followed it for quite a while. I found it clever and amusing, but around two years ago I got bored of essentially the same jokes rehashed over and over again. I went though the last few years a couple weeks ago and was enjoying it much more after taking a break.

I personally loved the ending. Very in character for the comic.

Can you name a better webcomic or sprite comic?

VeloZer0

Judging by the (apparent) hostility of that response I am going to guess that posting any names will end up in personal attacks against our choices of judgement, unresolvable due to the subjective nature of the choices.

If you want to know what I feel about other web/sprite comics could you please start a new thread, so we can discuss this in a less adversarial manner.

I would say xkcd and Order of the Stick are probably better. If you want a comic with a really good plot though, I would recommend the critically underrated Captain SNES. The only problem I really have with it is the frequent schedule slips.

But anyway, I got strangely depressed when I heard it was almost over. I mean, it was pretty much one of the first things that I had followed with any regularity on the internet way back in aught three or so, and despite the rehashing of jokes and gradual waning in the novelty and writing, it has been a pretty enjoyable, reliable ride.

Really? It was good when it started but about 30% of the way through it was lame and not funny(with couple exceptions). Whatever really.

I agree that the humor wore down near the end. I think it suffered from trying too hard to tell the story, rathering than focusing on the humor and characters.

I didn't like that the plot moved so slowly, but with any luck I'll be able to just read the whole thing.

All 1224 strips plus whatever bonuses were tossed in.

Lord help me :P

Actually, there is also an epilogue due out soon, according to the main site.

In my head, I heard this post narrated by Leonard Nimoy and I must say it's the funniest thing I've ever read in the FF1 forum.

I think I stopped reading at the 500 or so mark. It just started to become less funny for me, but I look forward to getting back to it and finishing it off.

It is sad to see it end, but I suppose it had to at some point. I used to follow the thing religiously, I thought it was hiliarious.

I giggled a bit, but it wasn't to great.

I don't think he really intended to do it though, it's more like he did it because everyone insisted on more closure.

Indeed. I think that the epilogue itself was the joke. A joke played on the fans who wanted some epic epilogue when the ending fit just right, and was classic Clevinger.

So White Mage looking for BM and Fighter as a form of closure is just a metaphor for the closure the fans seek?

The fact that I can't remember when the last Hadoken was means it's been far too long.
