View Full Version : Sticky Playstation Analog

This is the second time this has happened! The analog sticks on a playstation controller I haven't touched in months is sticky (the rest of the controller is covered in dust and not at all sticky) and shiny like there's a layer of goo on it. Both times I just wiped it off, but I'm really curious as to why this happens.
A google search just turned up people asking on other message boards and getting replies that completely ignore the post like "wash your hands before you use it" (it hasn't been in use) or "just wipe it off" (it has been wiped off, they want to know WHY it needed wiping in the first place!).
So does anyone know why this happens? xD

I don't have that at all, and I don't touch the thing for months.

Well then, I've never had that issue. Maybe your thumbs sweat a lot?

I'm guessing that it's a form of grease or lubricant for the analog sticks. Depending on what it is, it might expand very easily if not kept at an ideal temperature, leaking out around the stick.

There’s a very naughty fairy that jizzes on girls’ controllers.

Ive had this with my PS2 controllers a few times, and i always found it very weird. Never found an answer to it either.
Usually when I havnt touched the controller in months.

I had this with my original Sixaxis, no cover or layer on it or anyhing but it's just kinda... idk. Haven't had it with any of my Dual Shock 3's though.

But if that were the issue, why would it only do this after it hasn't been in use for months? D:

This makes sense. I sort of had the feeling it was something in the sticks themselves. It gets really hot in my room at home, and in my dorm I keep it right by my window. Maybe since I haven't been using them it just collects rather than getting wiped off by my thumbs?

It happened once to a friend of mine. Probably something to do with the temperature seeing as he used to keep his controllers next to his computer tower when he wasn't using them.
It's scared me into always putting my controllers away. My PS2 controllers go into a drawstring bag and into cupboard and I cover up my PS3 controllers with a spare piece of cloth. I cover my PS3 up too, because that particular console lives in a really dusty part of the house.

Jeez guys stop eating candy while playing video games
Seriously though, I've never had this problem. *looks at own controllers left untouched for months*
