Mine was Squall-Selphie-Quistis
In the missle base and the final dungeon (sp)
Selphie-Quistis-Rinoa.
I like the idea of a female party :(
What's yours!?

Squall, Irvine and Zell. A lot of people I know do not like Irvine and Zell seems to be very popular.

I'm with you on this. Squall, Irvine and Zell were my favourite party too.
I'm not good with Selphie's Slots because I'm a betting man and I always convince myself The End will definitely be the next one and spend the next 10 minutes cycling through with my fingers crossed.
And Quistis is good for killing Tonberrys in the Centra Ruins but that was pretty much the only time I kept her in my party by choice.
Rinoa's Invincible Moon is great. If you intentionally don't learn Wishing Star, she'll use it pretty much every time you're Aura-ed. And her sorceress limit break is decent too, if you put the effort in to get her magic stock right. But the biggest peeve I had with Rinoa was that her attack animation was too frickin' slow. Especially when she's on critical health and sitting on the floor.

Squall, Quistis and Selphie
Zell's limit was annoying, I never had much good ammo for Irvine and he's sort of the Cait Sith of FFVIII, not very important to the story. That leaves Rinoa, I use her sometimes but she leaves the party every now and then so I end up neglecting her sometimes.

Squall, Irvine and Zell at first then Squall, Rinoa and Zell when I get Angel Wing. But I always choose my party based on storyline and where theyre going next.

On a slightly more detailed note, I can basically find a use for all characters in FFVIII and it's one of the games were there doesn't seam to be a "sucky" character (I am the same in FFVII - the only reason I don't use Vincent much is because I don't like his Limits, but there's no character in VII that sucks to me either).
So basically I find all characters in VIII usefull to have, which is why it doesn't matter who the 3rd member of my team is, and the 2nd is mostly Rinoa, because I like the idea of her and Squall being on the same team, plus I like her as character.

Rinoa Squall Irvine
Mine was Squall-Irvine-Quistis.
Once I did a Squall-Quistis-Selphie. It wasn't too bad. I have the hardest times with parties in this game; I love the plot, and the overall atmosphere of the game, but I find the characters to be so lame. Especially in battle.

Ditto. Though sometimes I switch out Rinoa and put in Irvine instead, cause he can deal some serious damage. Zell has the strongest limit break if you can handle it (and have the patience), and Squall.......

The only thing setting characters apart, once you're torn the Junction system a new asshole, is their limit breaks, so I'm gonna say "Any party that doesn't include Selphie", as she, sadly, isn't particularly useful. Normally for the final battle I have her with Cactuar, Kamikaze and maxed Strength, then as soon as she shows up, boom. Next character please.
Squall, Zell and Quistis usually become my main party. Once there are enough GFs to go around, Irvine and Rinoa are setup to optimise strength and magic respectively; Rinoa will have Meteor as the only offensive spell in her inventory, and a crapload of defensive ones for everything else. Angel Wing + Meteor = Win.
Irvine just needs the Item command so he can toss an Aura Stone at himself (or just let someone else cast it on him) and I have him use his Limit.
Squall, Zell and Quistis are the only characters I give flexibility towards the end of the game for some reason.

Selphie's limit is wonderful in the beginning when your magic supply is very limited, but by the time you have everyone it's better to get someone who can really tear up those bosses.

Yeah, Selphie's Limit is great for Full-Cure when not everyone in the party has a HP-J yet. You can't beat Diablos early game without her , I'd say.

Blind. You are invincible if you cast Blind. His spells cannot kill you so once he casts Gravija he is essentially a sitting duck. Gotta admit though, putting Auto Duel and Auto Gunblade on is amusing as it means Selphie has more time to look for "Meteor 3 times" in that fight :D

Are you serious? Wow! Just get a char to < 1/3 of their max HP and then keep refreshing (Circle-button, was it?) until you hear a cling-sound and see a small arrow pointing to the right, located right of the Attack command. Now simply hold the -> Button and select the Limit Break.

Squall's Limit: 4 and more hits, up to 8 with possible finishing move when you would usually only hit once. One finishing move (requires best sword, very unlikely) is the Lion Heart - 17 hits of about 3x damage.
Zell's Limit (greatest damage dealing potential, requires patience): capable of dealing 1.161.000 damage, especially with constant pressing of UP-DOWN and RIGHT-LEFT.
Irvine's Limit (quickest sure damage): choose your ammo (machine gun ammo is best one in endgame) and use R1-R1-R1 to fire away!
Rinoa's Limit: Angelo does one of the different Limit Breaks you've learned. The 2nd limit (CD3 and further) puts Rinoa into a Berserk-like status. She begins constantly casting random damaging magic from her stock, not wasting ANY charges. The spells have a massive damage boost.
Quistis' Limit: Blue Magic! Use specific items to make her learn more limits. One very nice limit break is the Degenerator, which instantly kills the enemy. Also, you can use a Lv 100 Siren Item Transformer to transform 100 thingies of death (forgot what it was) to get Dark Matter, which can learn Quistis her final limit break. It can also be transformed into Luck +1 or Luck Junctioning.
Selphie's Limit: Tombola. You can get such spells as 2x Ultima, 3x Aura and there are four special spells only available in the limit. 1.: Mega Vita, restores 100% HP to all. 2.: Wall, gives Protect and Shell to all (possibly some other buffs too). 3.: Floataga (?), removes all enemies from the game. 4.: The End..., kills all enemies if they aren't zombies, works against anything (but undeads) even Omega Weapon.

My first playthrough was Squall, Rinoa, and Zell because I was 10 and though that those 3 were the most important to the story. Not bad limit breaks though.
Second time was Squall, Zell, and Quistis. I found it to not be as useful as the above, but Quistis is nice to look at, so yeah.
This time I'm going with Squall, Zell, and Irvine. I've never been too big on Irvine but I wanna see what he's like this time.

Squall and Rinoa are irreplaceable the first time around, but using them for your second time, just gets boring and predictable. The third slot is usually filled by Selphie, who is a decent addition.

Squall, Rinoa & Quistis. It used to be Squall, Rinoa & Zell, but Quistis is just much cooler than Zell.
Funny part of the game is when you split the parties when you first meet Irvine. Just put Rinoa & Selphie in Squall's party and check his reaction. Brilliant. Think you could so something in VII by putting Tifa & Aeris in Cloud's party when you leave Midgar.

I forgot to note the name of the person who detailed the limit breaks but you missed some spells unique to Selphie in the limit break which include one called Rupture (or Rapture, maybe theres two) but yeah her special unique spells are awesome I believe she may also get Exit. Generically speaking the spells are throwbacks to old FF spells from the older games with exception of The End.
Also Irvine, no end of game you should be using Pulse Ammo unless you have a guaranteed 9999 damage on a normal attack without junctions (devouring for strength will net you this eventually I normally just devour for 255 of everything anyhow) The reason I say this is simple:
Pulse ammo = guaranteed 9999 damage hit.
End battle Griever and junctioned forms of Ultimecia can obliterate your magic straight out from your stock including your junctioned magic. Therefore if you're using machine gun ammo you can't always deal max damage. Fight the Elnoyle in Esthar repeatedly for 2 energy crystals each time ammo RF will make this in to pulse ammo :) (also can be mugged for 1 or 2 more and carded to make 1 for every 10 cards, better to just play cards in a safe region for elnoyle cards. Brilliant exp too so if you're not level 100 and wish to be this fight which is much like the Dollet Tower boss battle will get you there quickly enough)
My personal party changes frequently I've done just about every combination possible and enjoyed it. I don't feel there is a weak character in terms of ability in VIII, unlike in VII where I felt Cait Sith and Vincent's limit breaks were not as effective as the other party members.

Squall, Zell, and Quistis was pretty much the one I used cuz my bro used to use it as well.
But I really like that party when you're fighting Omega. Squall and Zell doing their limit breaks and Quistis is the one using magic and stuff like healing, putting on Aura, summoning Doomtrain and (even Eden sometimes if she had nothing to do, causing a lil damage is helpful).
Okay
1st Party: Squall, Zell, and Quistis
2nd Party: Squall, Zell and Irvine. My aggressive, Tank team. In my 2nd perfect game I'm currently completing, I'm going to use this party for the first time against Omega.

I split the boys and girls when I first played, but when I figured out the game mechanics it was Squall/Zell/Quistis or Squall/Zell/Selphie (but only for the heals which I didn't need)
For max dps I do Squall/Zell/Quistis

When the game first came out I think I had a party of Squall, Rinoa, Irvine. Can't remember later playthroughs, though, except for my last one a few years ago of Squall, Rinoa, Quistis. If I were to play again, I'd probably use those three again mainly because Zell is an idiot, Selphie is insufferable, and Irvine is a cardboard cut-out. Not that Quistis has much more to do; I just like using my enemy skills. (I also like surrounding myself with attractive women)
EDIT: Thinking on it, Quistis was actually kind of an interesting character. Tremendously overachieving student-turned-teacher in love with one of her own students who couldn't care less about it. With the whole 'theme of love' thing FF8 tried to have going for it, the ball was really dropped with this subplot. The Orphanage :bou::bou::bou::bou: really did wreck everything character-wise with FF8.
