I try not to be racist, but I can't watch that video. I suppose it has less to do with her skin color (which means I'm not racist, yay!) and more to do with the fact that she is loud and obnoxious. I can't listen to loud and obnoxious people speak, it irritates me too much.

I'm sure it is wonderful or something though.

No kidding. I got shivers down my spine the whole time. So much raw, unadulterated intensity, I cowered in my seat a little bit near the end.

How are you people describing this girl as annoying or obnoxious? Girl was hardcore. Loved her voice.

Clearly, people can't handle the truth. Therefore, she is annoying.

what are you apologizing for? Is it illegal for white people in the US to criticize black people without giving the "I'm not racist" disclaimer (unless they're not too black of course, like the president)? What does racism has to do with anything?

anyway, she's loud and obnoxious. Don't scream like a tard if you want to get your point across.

I think she's doing this thing called performing.

"Deserve" is subjective. While some people in those situations deserve such things, others do not. Some abuse the system, so the system tries to change to make it harder to do so, but in doing so, it makes it more difficult for those who actually need/deserve it. Essentially, fixing a problem will always create another one.

And the one thing above all else that bothers me is... that it's not only women who get put into these situations. Yeah sure, it may be more common, but men get screwed over even more if they're stuck with 3 kids on their own etc etc that she ranted about. Idk, I studied all these issues in school, and maybe I'm just sick of hearing the "poor me" or "poor woman" rant over and over. I didn't get chills or anything, I got the "oh, this again" feeling. Top it all off with the fact that 1/3 if not more of the women in these situations are in it due to their own choices/mistakes... and it's hard to feel bad for some of them.

I will never forget one day my teacher being mad about TANF I believe (TEMPORARY Assistance for Needy Families) and how the whole point of it was to give money while they search for a job, up to 2 years I think. She was complaining that it should last longer than that(indefinitely in her mind). On top of that, if the person could not find a job, TANF would have them work in their building cleaning or doing other things (secretary etc.) to get experience so they could get a job. They didn't get paid a salary on top of the TANF if they did, and she was wondering where was their compensation for the work. All I could think was that the TANF was their compensation until they could get an actual job and no longer need TANF.

sorry, bit of a rant, but yeah. I can only hear this so many times before it's just the same old thing over and over.

I found this women a bit annoying too.

I remember when my friend showed me Shihan's poem and I loved it! It's both touching and funny.

But my guy Gemineye is just amazing!

She has pieces about that too, baller. But a staggering majority of women are the ones put in these situations (and the ones who have to carry a baby to term if they are legally unable to get abortions). Men do not get pregnant and can peace ouwt whenever they want.

1/3rd of the women are in these situations because of their own choices and mistakes (we should be punished for mistakes?). That, even, depends on how you view the choices that led up to these situations - were the choices even made with personal agency? We're a product of our experiences (which we rarely can choose to experience; or control the outcomes of) and our future choices are defined by how we've learned to cope. But does that mean we should ignore the 2/3rd majority who are in these situations because of circumstances beyond their control?

Also, I love Shihan, esp. the video NCG posted~ wut.

Less talky about bull:bou::bou::bou::bou:, more talky about how awesome Shihan is.

This is the first video of beat poetry I had ever seen and what got me more into it, I just loved this video.

I know dude, he rocks big time! But this thread isn't about, it's about this female poet. Perhaps you or I should start a thread dedicated to def poetry jam.

She is loud. I had my computer volume as low as it can go and she was still loud. Her poem was great though it wreaks of feminism.

I wasn't really apologizing so much as I was making a jab at people who misunderstand racism. I hinted at this in the second sentence. In today's world, racism has a lot to do with everything, as does sexism and all those other lovely -isms. Unfortunately, this thread is not really the place for either of those discussions.
