Xenosaga Battles

after a good couple years iv finally picked episode 1 back up and still got my ass handed to me by the tiamat, sense then iv started over and have deleted my files to episodes II and III, and so i wonder which battle system is the best.

E I entroduced a ground breaking and hardcore lvl complex system of combat.

E II gave us a slow as hell wait period and double attacks that kicked as, to bad all charecters shared a boost gauge. and took away out freedom to go gundom style in battle at will. But it did give us Jin.

E III gave rpg fans a classic feel along with a break system that could throw the battle in favour of either side and took the ES battles from II and made them extremly better with a system that completly differed from PC combat and felt like a diffrent game.

I've played only I and II so far. I is definitely better in every aspect, including battle system.

I've heard that III is the best, though. =O

The only advantage 2 had over one is an improvement to the Boost Gauge. In I you were to limited in it's use since the enemy could take advantage of it and leave you in the dust. Didn't make up for the games other faults though, even though I still enjoyed it. :p

In every single aspect of the game though, Episode III is the best, bar none.

my only true complaints about 2 was the load speed, KOS-MOS' voice over and the lack of shops and cusomizing.

In 3 i didnt quite like the classic combat style it realy took me away from the xenosaga feel but i loved the frredom it gave you in battle instead of having to do the same exact moves every round.

III is pretty awesome. It's the best rush job I've ever seen. I enjoyed all of them in their own ways, I suppose.

They underused such a good soundtrack for II :( All of that guy's terrible bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: and barely any songs Kajiura wrote.

I love Albedo and its really comes down to a toss up between Eps.1, Eps. 3 and Pied Piper in terms of the best entry... granted PP is pretty limited as a game since it is a cell phone game but the story is actually incredibly well written and I advise all Xenosaga fans to read a fan translation of it, especially if you like Ziggy. :D

In some ways, I like Eps.1 combat the most but Eps.3 has a better leveling system and the best mecha combat of the three entries. Eps. 2 has some redeeming qualities but lacks far behind when compared to the other two. I really feel you can't go wrong with Episodes 1 and 3 and seeing how Eps. 3 retcons quite a bit of Eps. 2 (since its based off the re-imagined version of the plot from Xenosaga I and II for the DS) its almost irrelevant to play Eps. 2 anymore.

I had to watch Episode 1 as an 8 hour long cutscene (1 as a game wasn't released here), so it felt like a good intro to Episode 2 which I really enjoyed. Episode 3 is my favourite though!

Yeah the first game had the card game, the poor man's Virtual On knock-off, and the odd but addicting Drill Game. Not to mention a casino with really loose slots. :smug:

^-> Just the mention of the card game gets me nostalgic. It was glorious! The best mini-game in any game ever! Why the heck didn't they have it in the other 2 episodes? =(

As for battle system, I really can't decide between Ep 1 and 3. I'd have said 3, if it wasn't because of that awesome "turn-wheel" thing in episode 1 that could increase exp, boost, crit-rate etc on certain turns. That was another absolutely brilliant feature.
