Recently finished my Chrono Trigger DS. On finishing it (I did the Dream's Epilogues), some fond memories of Chrono Cross returned to me. I loved how that game expanded on the Chrono Trigger universe in such an amazing way. I do believe that game had one of the bvest stories I ever experienced in a game, albeit a bit chopped up...

So, what are your memories of this game?

I played the game so long ago, and I was 13 or so and never knew what the hell was going on in that game. I'd like to think being older I would be able to follow the storyline better, but I remember it being just an insanely twisty story. So, if someone told me what the story was, that would be great!

I thought Chrono Chross was okay -- I thought it was sad it sort of departed from the cutesy but serious feel of CT, and decided to give me 60 characters to work with, most of which were RIDICULOUS (Nikki? With the guitar? Pip?). But it was the most gorgeous game. Seriously, CC is still probably one of the prettiest and most scenic games I've played to this day.

I like CT better by a landslide though.

Chrono Cross was great for the first disc. After that they made the plot too complicated and threw away too many interesting plot twists for anything that was done to have much of an emotional impact. The core four characters (Serge, Kid, Lynx, Harle) are still some of my favourite video game characters ever though.

It probably helps my estimation of the game that the soundtrack is one of the best in game history, and the game was one of the most gorgeous to be released on the PS1. Normally I don't care much about graphics, but this was something special.

Serge's Mom was hot.

It was so weird, my last playthrough of Cross was just after finishing Chrono Trigger DS. I think they did that on purpose xD.

I like the huge cast of characters, it was fun recruiting everyone. And I liked having a bunch of options, even though in end I always ended up with Serge, Kid, and someone. Even after you get the option to switch Serge out, I kept him. Except for that time I went through a lot of the game with Draggy, Pip, and Poshul for giggles.

I loved running around with Demon Pip, Poshul, and either Draggy or Starky. They are pretty much the best characters, anyways.

It always drove me crazy, all the characters who were ambiguously characters/children of the characters from CT. I think they explained Kid, but did Lucia = Lucca?! Glenn = Glenn?! Argh!

Somebody must know.

I think hands down Chrono Cross was the most beautiful looking Playstation game. It had such interestingly designed locations, with nice vibrant colours, some interesting character design and such an awesome musical score.

I got Chrono Trigger DS not long ago and I want to play through that and Cross again.

No. If memory serves, they were originally going to be said characters (Guile was also supposed to be Magus originally) but then they scrapped the idea. Although I can't remember who Glenn was in the context of Chrono Cross, but I don't think he was intended to be the same Glenn as in Chrono Trigger.

From what I remember, Guile (as Magus) was supposed to be the only recurring character. Others were just made to be similar. Glenn owes his name to a hero from the past, Luccia was Lucca's friend, Leena was just a name reference, Grobyc was supposed to be this robot-type-thingy, and then there's Leah - probably just a cavegirl, but there have been theories that she might actually be Ayla's mother. Guile has basically no backstory, yet CT DS seems to want to make us believe he is Magus after memory loss. And Serge is this game's Crono - silent as ever (ironically, you cannot name him "Crono").

I'm pretty sure about most of the references I noted, and I'm positive Luccia was never supposed to be Lucca from one single fact - Radical Dreamers. CC is treated as a sort of remake of that, and Lucca's raising of Kid was a crucial part of that. So basically, Lucca was destined to have a greater purpose than Luccia in the game, while the latter provided the Lucca-like scientist addition to the party.

This is my favorite game. Ever. It's been too long since I've played it though.

It feels good to know -- I wondered about the characters when I was younger, and I haven't thought about this game enough recently to actually check it out. Thank you!

I liked the plot the most, the graphics, and followed by the characters.

My fondest memories of this game are when some friends and I played through it together. Every Saturday night we got together, partied and then my friend Jeff and I switched the controller back and forth as we played through the game while everyone else watched and commented. Everything from the names we gave the to MST-esque comments we gave as the game unfolded were fantastically hilarious.

Time traveling, shifting dimensions, or whatever it's called. It's fiction at best and you can believe whatever you want aside from what the author prints.

Another connection to Chrono Trigger is that FATE is essentially Robo and mother brain combined, built off of their circuits. Also the whole Kid being Schala's clone.

But this is a wonderful game and I'm going to play it when I get home later
