My grandfather is in town; he arrived yesterday. A little after he showed up, which was very short notice, by the way, I found out that the only reason that he's in town at all is to buy a car for me.

We looked at Jettas first, but there aren't any nearby from a private owner. Then we looked at Hondas, and then Toyota, and then Hyundai. We went through the Civic, Corolla, and, eventually, we found an awesome little Hyundai Accent. All of the Corollas were in a dealer, and my grandfather wasn't interested in buying anything from a dealership. The Civic was in horrible shape, but, as noted by the 'awesome,' the Hyundai Accent is in perfect condition. In fact, all of the routine maintenance was taken care of just a few weeks ago.

We're going in about two minutes to look at it. I'm really excited. My grandfather seems to think that it's a nice car, and he knows what he's talking about. I really like it; it meets all of the specifications that I wanted in a car. So, when I reply to this, I might have my first car :</>D!

Topic: What was your first car and how did you acquire it? Tell us stories!

Oh, wow, I guess in my excitement I didn't post this before I left! Well, we went and looked at the car. We liked it a lot. We went to the bank. My grandfather took out $6,000 cash. I drove home in my very first car, a nice little Hyundai Accent.

WOO

I'm excited :</>D

My first car was a 1980 Chevy pickup truck that my dad bought me. It was awesome. It was a light blue color and we even got it painted so it looked super nice.

My first car was a 1994 Nissan Sentra that I kind of miss. :(

My dad got it for me when I was in high school.

On a side note, $6,000 cash looks like just as much as it is.

And that's a lot.

My first car is a 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. I still have it, acctually doing some work on it as I slowly get the money. She may be a gas hog, which luckily gas is going back down, and she may require alot of work....but I wouldnt give her up:)

It was recommended to me that I buy a car cover. The car will be out under the trees all of the time. Is buying a car cover a good idea?

Yes, they're cheap and will help keep your car clean.

My first car is also my current car, which is a 2000 Saturn SL-1. It is extremely boring but it gets me from Point A to Point B without any issues so I do not really care. I am not a car person and do not spend a lot of time in my car, so it does not need to be anything fancy.

Oh, that car is so cute!

My first car was a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. It didn't like it very much, though it was veeeery fast. I'll talk about the new car I just got instead, because I like it better.

2010 Corolla sports edition! It's cute!

The best thing about it besides the red color is the gear shift. I love it!

:bou::bou::bou::bou:, I can barely look at a car without getting carsick. It's less severe lately though, perhaps once I'm done with college and earning, I'll look into lessons. No real imperative for a car here though, I'm happy enough walking everywhere.

It is a sweet ride. And it's red too, which is amazing.

The only Corolla drivers I see are in the standard ones in the colour white. And they have no need for a sporty version because their sole purpose in life is to sit in front of me, driving very slowly, in places I cannot overtake them.

Rye, I hope you are not one of them.

My first car was a Citroen C2. I still have it. My mum bought it for me as a present for my school results.

I don't have and have never had a car. I also made a conscious decision not to get a licence.

ROFL! No, I sympathize. I have very little patience for most things in life, but I have absolutely no tolerance for slow drivers. My nickname in the family is lead foot. :shiny:

Thank you!

I felt so much sympathy for the Beemer guy. I love my little Corolla, but my true tastes are the kind of cars that rich angry guys with small penises drive - 2 door BMWs, Audi convertibles, you know the type. XD

My first car was (and is) a 1995 Lexus ES300. My mom is an accountant for company that owns a couple of used car dealerships, so I pretty much had my pick of cars that I could get at the cost to the dealership, so it was a good deal. Though it drives so well, I am now spoiled and will have trouble in a few years when it's time to get another car.

Yes, those are cool. But I really want an Aston Martin before I die. & a Jaguar. Now that Ford is no longer ruining them.

I have a driving licence but have never had my own car. I always took dad's or mom's when I needed one and payed for the gas. I'd like my own car someday, but I've always wanted to own a moped (http://ffelw.blogg.se/images/2008/ny-baotian-classic-eu-moped-45km-h-endast-6995kr-1_11726615.jpg). :D

My first car was a '95 Buick LeSabre. It didn't last long, er, at all.

So what I consider my first "real" first car is my 99 Chevy Cavalier! Which I call Batty.

I decided to name it. I kept mashing X though, because I just wanted to get through the opening, and ended up naming it The Highwind.

I like the name though, so we're good.

Oh, I almost died in my first car after a week. Some lovely gentleman decided he would enter my lane while my car was there, just pushing me off the road at 120km/h (that's about 70mp/h) and rolling me a few times. Was fun, I tell you.

Fortunately I drove the next day and it's probably why I am now such an aggressive driver.

I'll have you know I drive my Corolla as fast as it'll go!
So that's like 0-60 in... well, I've had it 3 years now and I'm not there yet. :D

My first car is also my current car; a 2007 Corolla hatchback (which is known as the Auris elsewhere throughout the world). It was a bit of an impulse buy because I knew the guy who owned the dealership through a friend's father. Now sometimes I wish I had gone for a Lancer or a Mazda 3, which are more likely to be considered 'hot hatches'. A Golf would've been sweet too.

http://upload.moldova.org/auto/Toyota/2007_Toyota_Auris_3.jpg

My favourite bit about the hatch that sets it apart from the sedan is the raised gear stick. It makes it very comfortable to drive one handed. The handbrake is sexy too.

That's a nice lookin' car, Mogi. It's a cute bean car!

My first car was a hand-me-down from my Pa. A 1974 Opel Manta! Rust-colored. It was ghetto-riffic and I loved it. Not a single gauge in the dash worked, so I just had to guess how fast I was going and when to fill the tank. The tape player was nailed under the dash with plywood.

It exploded on the freeway and I was sad.

This is the closest pic I could find:

That's an awesome story. Reminded me of the time a car on the freeway was on fire (huge fire); we could see it from the office when I was at IBM too. Wish I took pics =(

I currently drive a 2008 Mazda 3, but the first car I drove was a... 1997 Ford Contour http://www.theautochannel.com/media/photos/ford/1997/97_ford_contour_se-1.jpg. My mother used to drive it, iirc, so when I started to drive that car, she bought a Toyota Corolla (year totally forgotten). The damn Contour was a pretty good car for something approaching 200 000 kms - we all knew it was dying but it still ran, so nobody cared.

Well one day after working night shift I drove home on the highway to get home asap. Traffic suddenly slowed down in front of me so I stopped gradually until I was completely stopped. I then looked in my rear view to see a car barrelling into me - the driver could not stop in time and smashed into my car from the back. Then after that the truck behind that car smashed into the car that smashed into me! xDD

I was able to drive the car home and reported the crash a few days later. Insurance paid to have the rear bumper replaced, and after that (wtf this story will not end!) whenever I made turns I would here a clicking sound. When we had the car checked, we found that the rear axle was cracked. Oh well bye bye car.

The Toyota Corolla I mentioned? I ended up driving that car and my mother bought a Camry. Corolla was fun to drive, but I don't think it was very powerful. Less than a year later, my brother borrowed the car to go to work. After I was done in downtown (I don't remember what I was doing that day; was it a Saturday?) I went back to the mall to meet up with my brother to get a ride home. We tried to find the car....where did it go?

Car was stolen. xD too funny.

My first car was a dodge Neon.

Here it is, on the interstate in Pittsburgh with Jowy, Misfit, and Denmark in the backseat.

I still have my first car!

Kenny the Ford KA. He's silver, and cute.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/2/Resize_of_2003_Ford_Ka_Silver.jpg

I got him for my 18th birthday from my parents. I love him.

People like to crash into him recently, though, so he has a few dinks. Two people have crashed into me in the past 2 months! Once, I was stationary in a queue of traffic and somebody drove straight into the back of me. The second time I'd literally just parked up in a car park and was getting out of my car and somebody reversed into me! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hate bad drivers!

I love my car, I'll keep him till he dies. He's 10 years old but only has like 40k mileage because the 2 previous owners barely drove him at all.
