Its that time of the year we have all been waiting for again, discuss your thoughts on the new line up here...

Alot of speculation is going around that Squeenix is going to announce something that is "terribly awaited and asked for by fans and press" most people seem to think its going to be a Final Fantasy VII remake... I'm skeptical to say the lease, I seem to remember last year they said something similar but it turn out to be something completely different.

Any thoughts?

Ahahaha you're a funny one.

Episode 3 will be out the same day Duke Nukem Forever is.

Duke Nukem Forever already came out. There was even a Zero Punctuation review for it. It was so awesome that it erased itself from existence for fear of the universe ending since nothing could ever improve on it.

But seriously, the Valve announcement better be damn good if it's really not Episode 3 as they have claimed.

Really not getting my hopes up this year. The emphasis seems to be on motion controls and 3D. The first I have no interest in whatsoever and the second won't be relevant till at least 5 years. I sure as hell know I won't have a 3D television until then.

Microsoft will have the style, Sony the substance and Nintendo will have nothing as usual. And no, one new Zelda game isn't enough.

Bolivar

What I'm most looking forward to is Killzone 3, Motorstorm: Apocalypse, and maybe inFAMOUS 2. I hope Agent will have actual footage this time. I have a feeling after beating Peace Walker that a new Metal Gear Solid is going to be announced, so I'm keeping my eyes out for that as well.

As far as motion controls - I'm predicting it now! Demon's Souls: Move! You heard it here first! When this game gets announced you can all thank me!

But as far as motion controls and 3D goes, I'm hoping for plenty of gif images of the former and some demonstrations of the latter. I personally do have high expectations for 3D, after hearing about how you're surrounded by snowflakes in Killzone 3, but can move in cover in a bunker to make it stop. Motorstorm also seems like it would be a dream in 3D. I have no intention of buying an HDTV for at least 2 years but it's something I'd really like to see take off if it's done well.

Metal Gear Rising is an action game featuring Raiden. People have referred to it as 'Ninja Raiden', like 'Ninja Gaiden'. The main gameplay gimmick seems to be 'cut anything', and the way that's executed is really similar to how the Afro Samurai game did it. They showed it off by having Raiden cut people (naturally), but also the environment and vehicles and stuff. They ended the gameplay clip by showing Raiden very carefully slicing up a watermelon.

MS's conference was pretty strong, even if nothing really got me super excited. There were no 'shoulder taps' at the end from Japanese developers, but they did say that the new 360 is shipping to retail tomorrow. Bigger built-in drive (still removeable), built-in wi-fi, smaller, shiny. Same price.

They're also mailing the new 360 to everyone who was in the audience. It's like they hired Oprah for their PR.

Depression Moon

Yeah I wish I was there. MG Rising looked sweet. In the trailer it looked like he cut the pillars off a building to send it crashing down on enemies.
Man this Natal stuff makes it seem like we're living in the future now. I remember when I was small and when some child had said it would be cool if we didn't have to play with controllers. I said yeah that would happen if magic was real. Damn, now we got games that are hands free, voice activated, that scan scan your body for your height and other measurements. We also got real life metal gear robots and androids. Will we be getting flying cars next?

Dreddz

Somehow I get the feeling that conference wasn't aimed at me at all. Really wasn't worth watching after the first 20 minutes or so. What a joke.

Metal Gear Rising did look great though. Ill enjoy playing that on PS3.

JKTrix
06-14-2010, 08:53 PM
I think you might be getting that feeling from the following conferences overall, aside from a few exceptions from whatever Sony is showing. On the whole these are aimed at a wider audience than the 'core gamers'--in fact I'm pretty sure Microsoft dude said that their conference was being broadcasted in Times Square. So that's an idea of their target audience.

Strange that they didn't say how much the Kinect is going to cost. Maybe they're waiting for Sony to better evaluate it.

Dreddz
06-14-2010, 09:52 PM
Looking past the actual content the way it was all presented was terrible. Some of the acting seemed so forced. Truly cringe worthy at times. There is something really sterile and commercial about the way Microsoft presents itself. Seriously, why the hell is Don Mattrick still involved in these conferences. Its better not having someone you want to punch presenting this stuff.

EDIT - And that stunt they pulled at the end by handing out 360's to people at the conference pissed me off even more. It doesn't come across as generous, just manipulative.

Vyk
06-14-2010, 10:11 PM
These conferences have never interested me much. Its just a 3 day long commercial. Sometimes there's a sprinkling of worthwhile content. But nothing worth sitting through any of it for when I'll find out about it after :]

Someone just randomly told me Microsoft announced new hardware. I thought they were trying to jump the gun on the next generation. Which would be a terrible idea. Nice to see they're merely pulling a Sony by redesigning their current console and price dropping the existing hardware

JKTrix

EA's conference actually did excite me. They opened up with a new Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, made by Criterion (Burnout guys). NFS3: Hot Pursuit was the last NFS game I really liked, and I really really like Burnout, so that game gets a strong 'WANT' from me. Dead Space 2 looked cool, I liked the first one but I can't handle creepy games. They actually cut the demo short on a cliffhanger, saying they would end it in Sony's conference tomorrow. Some of the stuff they talked about during the Sports section was a little over my head, but the Live Broadcast stuff seemed like a really cool feature for the community.

Bulletstorm was HOT, though personally all I needed to be sold on the game was the wisecracking Steve Blum (main character's voice actor). Finally, the trailer for the Star Wars MMO was cool, but all CG. Still no gameplay. They mentioned that every single player will get their own star ship, which is pretty neat.

Overall, a good show! Don't know if I'm gonna stay up for the Ubisoft conference.

Edit: forgot about Medal of Honour. Beta for PS360 and PC next week! It looked alright. They're working hard.

Only thing I'm interested in is the Old Republic. Which is a shame because I probably won't get to play it until like a year after it's released. I'd have preferred KOTOR 3 but this will do. I fondly remember my highschool days as they were also my Star Wars Galaxies days :D

JKTrix
06-15-2010, 01:42 AM
Didn't you know? Old Republic is KotOR 3, 4, 5, 6........

This Ubisoft conference is *super awkward*. Way to set the low bar. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood looks interesting though, from a story perspective.

Depression Moon
06-15-2010, 01:55 AM
What is ubisoft doing. Reusing the same stuff from the 360 show. Lame also what's with all the casual games. Hardcore gamers take the time out to watch this stuff. Last year when I had this on in my living room, my mom told me "What is this crap? Get that :bou::bou::bou::bou: off my TV!"

JKTrix
06-15-2010, 01:57 AM
Complaining about the abundance of casual games during E3 is *so* 2007.

Edit: I'll say it again: Way to set the low bar, Ubisoft. It will be difficult for anyone else to match the sheer awkwardness of that event. Best part for me was the beginning, especially 'Rez 2' (forgot the real name already). I also became a fan of Assassin's Creed after the fantastic 2nd game, so Brotherhood gives me more of Ezio.

Bolivar
06-15-2010, 05:34 AM
Complaining about the abundance of casual games during E3 is *so* 2007.

No, I think we should continue to call people out on that. I thought EA was especially strong this year with Crysis 2, Dead Space and Medal of Honor footage that really kicked open the door for them. Ubisoft wasn't all that great but last year they disappointed as well, especially with James Cameron talking about things that made absolutely no sense. I was hoping for Far Cry 3 but DAMN I'm probably going to have to wait until edit: GDC 2011 [lol i originally said TGS]. Far Cry 2 was one of my utmost favorite games of this generation.

Microsoft really surprised me, there wasn't a bigger naysayer about NATAL than me, but after seeing their Kinect segment, I actually believe now that Motion Control gaming is here to stay, and that's not a bad thing at all. Kinect Adventure especially enticed me, and I didn't see it coming. This is a certain sub-category that Video games can now do, and while we don't have to play them all the time, I really have to applaud Microsoft for sticking with a difficult technology and actually pulling it off.

But like the rest of the Internet, I feel their show overall was very, very weak. It was tightly put together, overall a very good conference, but if I owned an XBox 360 I would be tremendously disappointed. The best games shown were Call of Duty: Black Ops and Metal Gear Solid: Rising which are coming out on other systems. Despite a brief teaser for a Crytek game, the only substantive exclusives they showed were Fable III, Gears of War 3, and Halo: Reach - the same 3 XBox titles we've been playing for years over and over again.

Halo and Fable still have piss poor graphics. Despite jungle environments and more tense boss battles, Gears of War is starting to look terribly outdated. With their press conference focusing on outdated sequels, multiplatform games, and Kinect, it was overall a terrible effort from Microsoft. The fact that they gave free redesigned consoles out to everyone there makes it look like the most blatant payola/bribery ever executed in the gaming industry. Like - "hey, we know none of you journalists are at all excited in pretty much anything we've shown, but when you go back to your laptops, just remember you're getting a free 360 Slim." edit: in the GameTrailers stream, as soon as the press conference ended, the camera immediately cut to three guys who gave a standing ovation - who were the only 3 people in the entire audience doing so, while no one else did. That, and especially all the multiplayer segments, were so terribly staged it wasn't even funny.

I really hope Sony and Nintendo don't disappoint. There's a ton of stuff from both of them I've been looking forward to, and with the bar set so low by Microsoft and Ubisoft (two softs) I'm sure it'll only make theirs look better.

I'm not the only one clamoring for the next Saints Row? Rad. And I'd have to agree that I'd much prefer a KOTOR 3 over MMOTOR. They even have the mechanics set up to sound fun in single-player. Which I guess could be fun since I never make friends in MMOs so I could play it and enjoy myself. But that sort of defeats the purpose

Anyone know when we will hear the latest from Squeenix? I was thinking it would be during the Sony presentation... hope they announce the latest FF, I also hope I don't have to wait for the Squeenix Booth Tour on Wednesday to get any news on this "game often requested by fans and press alike".

Wasn't impressed with Microsoft's presentation overall. MGS: Rising looks like it could be interesting and I'll keep an eye on it, but aside from that there was nothing that surprised me or even interested me. I'll have to catch up on some of the video that I haven't seen yet, but I doubt any of it would sway my opinion on the whole thing.

Didn't see any of the EA or Ubisoft conferences. Some of what EA showed at least appeals to me like Dead Space 2, but again I wasn't overly surprised. I'm not even sure what Ubisoft showed, but unless their conference included a statement about dropping their stupid DRM in PC titles I won't buy anything they put out anyway and could care less.

Those lookin for Squenix news: E3 actually starts properly today. I don't think they're having a big televised conference like these other companies, but we will get news. Like their new game, Mindjack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD3toB4R6T8).

I was actually a little down on Rising, as I was expecting it to look faster if it was going to be a straight-up action game. These are the guys who made Zone of the Enders 2, one of my favourite games, and I was expecting something a little closer to that. If anything could match 'high speed robot action' on a human-sized scale, I think it'd be a cyborg ninja.

The cutting gameplay is interesting, but not so fresh for me because I already did something similar in Afro Samurai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQfaVbyVifQ#t=0m20s). Mentioned it earlier but couldn't load any videos.

Child of Eden is the name of 'Rez 2' that opened up Ubisoft's event. This video is a trailer released beforehand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuYWLYjOa_0), but in Ubisoft's event they actually had Q?'s Mizuguchi playing it on-stage. That trailer is pretty close to the actual gameplay of the game. This is the game that may just push me to get either the Move or the Kinect earlier than I intended (since it's coming to both).

There's a chance it might be at Sony. Nomura is going to E3, and I know they talked months back about wanting to show Versus XIII at E3 but they were behind schedule. Since he didn't show up at Microsoft's press conference announcing multiplatform status, I imagine they'll have either that or a new Kingdom Hearts (which might be at Nintendo). I would also expect to see Final Fantasy XIV there since it's coming out this year.

I really was very pleased with that. I was a little surprised to hear that Retro Studios was making the new Donkey Kong Country. Admittedly, I feel a little sorry for them, because from the trailer it seems like they're really being bound by the gameplay mechanics of the older Donkey Kong Country games, but I think that the nostalgia effect they may be going for can be obtained from simply using similar sound effects or graphic design, both of which seem to be very different from the original games.

The new Kirby seems to have very Paper Mario-ish gameplay elements, by using the real world physical attributes of yarn apply to the entire game world. The art style also reminds me of the Kirby game on the SNES. I'm really looking forward to it! It seems like it'll be very fun to play because of the yarn mechanic, and it will overall be a very charming game to look at, too.

I missed the Zelda trailer, but I did catch a few glimpses of the gameplay. I'm glad that the Zelda developers are choosing to really put the WiiMotion+ to use. The items look like they'll be a very fun way to interact with the game world, especially with the WiiMotion+ on board.

Metroid looks lovely as usual. :p

I haven't played the other Golden Sun games, but I think that now I will so that I can catch up with the series. This new Golden Sun really looks to be my kind of game, and I don't want to be lost once I actually get to play it.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new GoldenEye. During the trailer, before they had shown gameplay, I was expecting it to be either Contra or Ikari Warriors. Then I saw the actual gameplay, and I was pleasantly surprised, but I've actually never really been much of an FPS guy, and it didn't look very good. I have a friend who will love this once they figure out about it, though.

I think what left the best impression, though, was the 3DS. The 3D Camera will be a very fun thing to use once I finally get it, but what I was really surprised by was the amount of games they could announce were in development. Knowing about the Analog Control, Touch Screen, Motion/Gyro Sensors, and of course, the 3D display, I'm really curious how games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid will take advantage of that. I'd really like to see how Adventure games, like the ones that seemed to be pretty popular on the original DS, will work here. I want to see how we'll explore areas now, and interact with discovered objects. I'm also pretty curious how action games, like the new Kid Icarus, will take advantage of these features. Also, those are some pretty sweet graphics! :p Also, since the 3DS apparently has a web browser of some kind (unless I misunderstood Mr. Iwata), I'm pretty curious if webpages will start making 3DS layouts, to be designed with a 3D display in mind.

I'm really interested in seeing more about the 3DS. It's easily the coolest thing from Nintendo's E3, I think.

I'm in Bermuda right now so my internet is super slow. may post an image or something if I can find it, but that was among the many franchises they mentioned alongside the 3DS.

Also included Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter 4, Madden....

3DS is gonna be hot.

It seems like the Paper Mario game is a new game, rather than a remake. If you go to Nintendo E3 Network | Nintendo 3DS (http://e3.nintendo.com/3ds/), you'll notice in the pictures section for Paper Mario, the game looks to be a new one. Also, the Star Fox game seems to be a remake of Star Fox 64.

Edit: Oh yeah, the Sony conference.

I watched about an hour of it last night.

I was so bored by everything that I couldn't watch it any further. There were a few truly cringeworthy moments (like the laser tag thing) but overall it was just uninteresting. The only thing I saw that even remotely interested me was the new Rayman game. :D

Perhaps there's still hope for the coming days but man the Microsoft conference yesterday sucked.

I don't think that the touch screen controls will affect the gameplay very much. The interaction with the environment seems to be very small. Because of this, though, I think I'd prefer to have button controls. Switching between the touch screen and the buttons between battle and exploration modes seems silly.

Sony's was the lamest of the 3. I don't why they love those montages with games I don't care about and only Twisted Metal and Portal 2 I cared about.

Haha, Jaffe is so full of BS. He said he wasn't making a Twisted Metal game just weeks before this conference. Maybe that was a good thing though as I was pretty shocked to see it there. Great to see the series back. Nice to see at least one developer still makes car combat games.

Overall a decent showing in my opinion. Highlights were Littlebigplanet 2, Dead Space 2, Twisted Metal and Portal 2. Not that I have much interest in Portal 2, just seeing Gabe Newell up there was pretty special.

I reckon Nintendo wins as far as game announcements go but Sony had more content I was interested in. Microsoft were rubbish.

Nintendo had the best conference this year by far. Sony's wasn't that great but still far better than Microsoft. They talked about 4 games and then rambled about Kinect. Out of those four games only two of them were exclusives. My brother is a hardcore Microsoft fan and he facepalmed during their entire show.

In a hands-on article by Kotaku (Here (http://kotaku.com/5564204/hands+on-with-seven-nintendo-3ds-games-and-gadgets?skyline=true&s=i)), they mention that the 3DS's 3D function works best when it's in very specific positions. Knowing that the 3DS has a motion sensor, I wonder if this will end up being a problem.

Kevin Butler alone nudged Sony just slightly ahead of Microsoft for me. MS could have easily showed half the stuff Sony did, but they decided to focus on their exclusive games.

I was getting pretty excited during the PSP section. 3rd Birthday! Patapon 3! Valkyria Chronicles! Good stuff coming.

Edit: and yeah, Jaffe is a lying bugger :P

Yeah, Kevin Butler was pretty great. They could have potentially ruined that character if he didn't deliver. Fortunately he did. Phew.

Disappointed we didn't get to see Agent or Versus XIII. And there wasn't any particularly earth shattering announcements. Guess we'll be waiting another year to see if that FFVII remake actually happens. And then probably the year after that :p

Oh and Dead Space 2 was really impressive. Didn't think I'd be too jazzed about the title after having a 'meh' response to the original but man, that game looks insane.

Completely forgot that the Last Guardian wasn't shown. Somehow I had it in my head that it was a certainty that it would be shown in at least a trailer. Oh well.

Unfortunately missed part of the Killzone 3 demonstration. From the brief glimpse I saw it looked pretty damn good. Maybe just Killzone 2.5 but that's good enough for me.

EDIT - And GT5 FINALLY got a release date. That's pretty big news if you ask me.

Shame they could've did so much with LBP2 when LBP was revealed at E3, they were creative with their demonstration, not this time. Damn man, that puts a tear in my eye, that alone fails them beyond disbelief and to think I've been exclusively with them for all this time.

Wow, it's funny how different attitudes are here than on other boards. I personally thought Sony delivered huge. Sure, there were a lot of montages, but there were a lot of releases packed into them. The showmanship was better. Kevin Butler was awesome. The Move looked fairly impressive and far more than Kinect.

Nintendo came in a close second. 3DS seems impressive both as a piece of hardware, but also due to the incredible library coming with it. Zelda looks good as well.

MS just didn't impress much. Kinect seems that it will be severely limited compared to Move. Cute family stuff and workout games. I just wasn't overly impressed with anything shown.

Sony showed the only content that appeared even remotely interesting to me. Nintendo showed it's share though, and plenty of stuff that it's longtime fanbase will go gaga over, but I'm personally not sold on the 3DS just yet. Microsoft was definitely this year's laughingstock.

I'm rather annoyed there was NOTHING on VersusXIII though, but I was expecting that. Arrrg.

This has been an incredible E3 from the console manufacturers to the publishers.

The Sony press conference to me was nearly overkill. Killzone 3 was jaw dropping. A GT5 release date alone was huge. They showed Move has a really great game in Sorcery - that's something I would actually want to play. It's funny how Microsoft completely changed my views on motion gaming for the better yesterday yet Playstation just threw me for another 180. Twisted Metal resurrected my childhood. The fact that it had incredibly deep game play and design on top of it is unnecessary for me to go crazy over it, but they did it anyway. Gabe Newell putting Steam features on the PSN, hell, Portal 2 alone is easily the biggest shocker I've ever seen at E3. The man has literally been slinging mierda in Playstation's face for the last 4 years. The list of bonus content on multiplatform games seemed like it was never going to end. It just makes me smile that over the last 3 years, Microsoft has been securing exclusive deals which are simply add-ons which you have to download and pay for. Medal of Honor and Dead Space 2 are putting full games on the disc, and it's free.

Shame they could've did so much with LBP2 when LBP was revealed at E3, they were creative with their demonstration, not this time. Damn man, that puts a tear in my eye, that alone fails them beyond disbelief and to think I've been exclusively with them for all this time.

I'm really sorry to hear you say that because I don't know what you were expecting. They showed really quick demos that proved the promise that LBP2 will be more than LBP 1, with objects attached to the wall to give the illusion of non-platformer games. That alone really makes it one of the most revolutionary things I've ever seen. It also showed this can be a real multiplayer powerhouse with a never-ending stream of new games, let alone levels.

As great as Sony's was, I still have to give it up to Nintendo. Their position as the underdog nearly propels them to how good Sony's was. It was all about the games for these 2 and they made it a really great E3. The only thing about Nintendo is they didn't show much for a lot of the games they did announce, and a lot of the ones they showed are things I know I'll never get around to playing. Still, it's amazing that the Wii is relevant for gamers again.

One thing that baffles me about this industry is how easy people are to forgive a company from one press conference. The new Zelda game looks interesting. The graphics are neat. Can't wait to see more.

Kirby's Epic Yarn looks absolutely adorable. I couldn't help but feel all warm and fuzzy inside as I watched the trailer. He finally has a game on the "main console" again instead of "just" on handhelds.

The new Donkey Kong game looks fun.

I'm not sure what to think of the new GoldenEye game.

Also, holy smurf! Nintendo 3DS! Wanna know more!

Oh, and I'm getting more and more excited about Metroid: Other M!

I didn't think anything could surprise me more than a release date for GT5, but Gabe Newell at a Sony conference has to be the biggest surprise anyone has pulled in years.

Haven't caught up on everything from yesterday yet. So far I've only read through the announcements at Sony's conference, but I'm willing to say they had the most interesting conference. Echochrome 2, Twisted Metal, and a GT5 release date were all great to see announced. I'm looking forward to catching up on the videos so I can see things like LBP2 in action. Even the EA exclusive bonuses were pretty cool (even if I won't be getting Move so Dead Space Extraction means little to me).

Haven't really read about Nintendo's yet aside from skimming the posts here, but I really doubt I'll be wowed. It would take something pretty amazing to make me forget that I haven't enjoyed a first party Nintendo game since the N64 days.

My complete and utter dismay at the cavalcade of :bou::bou::bou::bou: that has been this E3 cannot really be captured in words. But let me try:

Nintendo win by a country mile and their conference was still awful. I barely even noticed Sony, but it looks like their biggest news was that Gran Turismo 5 now has a release date. Oh and Gabe you are the PS3 developers. Microsoft made me throw up a little bit in my mouth, most of their conference was terrifying Joker tigers and a Star Wars game that can react before you move.

I am going to build a basement in my mom's house, move into it, and stay there for a very long time playing obscure strategy games hardly anyone has heard of, bitching about XCOM, and claiming I will "show them all, the fools".

God almighty I am a bitter old man.

While I was pleasantly surprised, there's still a level of pragmatism that takes away from them for me.

One, as great as all their announcements were, they're nearly all games I'll never get around to playing. I never finished Twilight Princess, so why would I pick up the new Zelda? Goldeneye might've been the best thing for me, but I'll probably never play it when there's already so many better console shooters on the PS3, and the original is still strong to me. Donkey Kong, Kirby, Kid Icarus... it's all great but I seriously doubt I'll ever play any of those.

Also, one of Nintendo's biggest criticisms is more than abundant this year - no new IP's. Everything Nintendo does that's exciting is from the past, and has more than 20 games to its name. Sure, Motorstorm, Killzone, and inFAMOUS all have sequels coming, but these are reimaginings of fairly new franchises

So Sony still wowed me the most, mostly because of shattering announcements and games that I know for sure I'll be playing or watching my girl play. But I have to give credit where credit is due, and Nintendo is relevant again.

I didn't think anything could surprise me more than a release date for GT5, but Gabe Newell at a Sony conference has to be the biggest surprise anyone has pulled in years.

TWISTED METAL, BABY!!! And Move actually has good games. And the crapload of free content (in some cases full games) you get for buying third party games. And PSN Plus which pays for itself in the first month (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/06/15/e3-2010-from-the-stage/) (too bad I already have Wipeout HD, thanks Dredz!!!).

I have to say a remake of Goldeneye doesn't interest me at all. If it weren't enough that Eurocom is developing it, I think we need to keep in mind that everything Goldeneye did well was innovative and unique 13 years ago; not so much now. That and looking at the trailer, it would be easy to confuse the game with any generic FPS that's come out recently.

This game in the right hands could probably do some amazing things and be every bit as awesome and innovative as it's predecessor, but Valve's not developing it so I don't like it's chances. :D

Oh, and I might as well add that I have no desire to play split screen multiplayer in an FPS again. Ever.

When I heard Square-Enix were about to announce something that has been anticipated for years, I got excited. Vagrant Story 2 AT LAST!!!! Alas, not to be.

Although Microsoft's Kinetic is really cool on many levels, it also appears to be Peter Molyneux's wet dream. Remember the first Black & White with all the gestures. This is the final conclusion of that journey. And the main problem is: What other genres will Kinetic fit in? Because a lot of games you want buttons or some sort of pointing device (any shooting game), so that worries me. As does the price tag.

Sony's conference was good. Not all of those games are for me, but I am looking forward to Gran Turismo. Playstation Move seems to have greater practicality than Kinetic and isn't too pricey, so think it might have won the E3 battle of the new motion controller. Just curious as to how you connect more than one at a time because surely you want to play sports games with friends.

Completely agree. I expect this game to do decent based on a wave of nostalgia, but I wouldn't dare think it will be close to good. Hell, unless I'm dicking around doing Slap fights or Knife fights with friends the original games does not hold up at all for me.

Anyhoo, I only looked some at Sony's presentaion and read the highlights, and I feel like Bolivar did for Nintendo's. Everyone is saying the GT5 release date is a massive bomb to drop or something, but my first thought was "Finally". I've never been big in GT so it's not a big deal to me, I just remember this game being announced/talked about for quite some time now (wasn't there a robust paid demo a few years back?) Twisted Metal was cool, but I haven't played those games in so long it would take some bugging to get me to try it again. Never played the Sly Cooper games, so the collection would be good if I didn't have so many new games to play. LBP2 makes me happy, as long as they really tighten up the dang controls. Other than that, I was just kinda meh. I can admit that a ton of people find these things to be massive though, and if so many do Sony's doing something right, so kudos to them.

Also, why does someone have to "win" E3? I guess because since we play games a lot we just have that mindset, plus we wanna see justify our purchase more?

Actually I do, and you're right, that was very crazy at the time. I guess I'm the opposite of your reactions - I was underwhelmed by the trailers and screen shots because it looked like the same LBP just objects stuck to the wall to make it look overhead when it really wasn't. So seeing yesterday that it can really be done, especially seeing the RTS game briefly, really got me excited for it. Plus that rocket game on a small level showed that this can really be a multiplayer beast, with tons of people cranking out little games you can hop in with friends and play for hours at a time.

This year was a bit more interesting than I thought it would be. I usually only pay attention if my third party companies are showing anything interesting but most of them weren't showcasing anything really new.

So it comes down to the big three.

Microsoft - Outside of Kinect and Metal Gear Rising, not a whole lot. Most of it seemed like they were announcing new services for X-Box Live. Kinect looks very interesting and I can see Sony and Nintendo both be "inspired" to add voice recognition into future motion control products. Not much to get excited for since I don't own the system and could care less about Gears of War and Halo Reach.

Sony - I just need to finally accept the fact that Sony no longer actively supports games I give a damn about. Unless you like FPS and racing games, there was nothing at Sony's press conference that caught my interest in terms of games. LBP2 wasn't as impressive as LBP1 and I kinda get a Rock Band 2 vibe from all this cause LBP1 has only been out for 18 months and already a sequel is being announced, it just feels a bit too soon for me. Since I'm not in love with Valve, I don't care about the PS3 now supporting Steam either.

I think the biggest reveal was Move, whgich definetly dropped the gauntlet down for motion controls in gaming. I was really hoping Sony and Microsoft would have strong showings for the technology and I must commend both for not disappointing. Sorcery looked silly but the demonstration of the technology was flawless so I have high hopes for future titles by Sony.

Nintendo - I do feel that Nintendo really had the best show of the three companies. The new Zelda title looks interesting and the cel shading makes it feel like the offspring of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. I'm happy to hear all the game design improvements and the fact that the game is suppose to have 1:1 motion like Sony was showing with Move.

I wish the rest of Nintendo's lineup was as exhilarating. A new Kid Icarus game was only half a surprise. I don't really care about Donkey Kong Country sequel or GoldenEye sequel seeing as how I was never impressed with either games back in the day. The 3DS was the other showstopper for me. I'm still skeptical about 3D gaming but appreciate the technology. I personally have issues with 3D cause it gives me bad headaches... The promised lineup for the 3DS is incredibly promising but Nintendo knows how to do handhelds. I like the new design though I'm annoyed about the nub on the 3DS seeing as how I hate the one on the PSP and I would have preferred for Nintendo just to make a better and more responsive D-Pad.

Still, overall, I felt it was a promising E3 if only for giving gamers a glimpse of future hardware and appeasing some people who are not me with software.

LBP2 wasn't as impressive as LBP1

Maybe in the press conference LBP2 wasn't that impressive. But I've read the previews about it and it is utterly epic. It basically ends up being a complete game creator. Guys can make racing levels, space invader levels, shoot-em-up levels, basically everything. It really has taken the original LBP idea and shot it to the next level.

Depression Moon

Well you could actually do all that in LBP1, you just had to find a way to fight the game's mechanics and it might involve some glitch use. It's supposedly easier now to do that stuff. I really want to see how you can make a RPG out of this like the developers said. I hope they don't mean like the FF turned based battle stuff I already seen used in LBP1 and it didn't even work great then.

Yeah, the Hot Pursuit showing excited me. I convulsed a little at the sight of a Veyron PIT-ing a Zonda. I want this game bad. More than GT5.

And speaking of creepy games, F.E.A.R 3 (or F.3.A.R if you want to call it that) also looked pretty good with their hints toward co-op play. Was it Point Man and Paxton Fettel they showed? I haven't played F.E.A.R in a long time and I haven't played 2.

Yes, co-op will be with the two brothers, who have an "uneasy alliance". While Pointman has the regular shooter-role of a soldier, Fettel utilizes his supernatural powers to do things like possess soldiers, rip them apart, and create all kinds of paranormal chaos. It's supposed to be really dynamic, and any kind of scenario could really generate from this (assuming) new take on co-op.

Supposed to be insane.

I thought Fettel was dead? Am I mistaken or do the two non-canonical expansions revive him (haven't played them)?

Oh, he's dead. Now he's using that to his advantage :D

Well, that's just awesome =]

I wonder how Alma's going to come into the picture.. and if Beckett plays a role in the game. Perhaps as a new antagonist? I'm going to have to get F.E.A.R 2 now.

It's strange that an FPS of all things has interested me most out of E3. I normally hate the genre.
